I'm not trying to dump on Illinois just because I want Buckner as a Spartan, but I heard that Illinois' stadium is an absolute dump. I heard it was voted the worst facilities in the Big Ten in Sports Illustrated. No joke.

This is looking better and better for the Spartans. I'm sure Buckner is taking a long look at MSU's commitment list and thinking, boy it sure would be nice to role into East Lansing with that crew next year.

Yeah I heard they were as bad as it gets. I think even made a where there's smoke there's fire comment about Zook's recruiting as he was leaving

Their stadium was the most unenjoyable place to watch a game I have ever been to.

Illinois is just finishing up a $120 million renovation of Memorial Stadium, so your info is at best outdated.

Or he could look at Illinois' commitment list, plus the past 2 classes and realize there's more talent in Champaign. Plus there are a bunch of guys from Chicago on the Illini roster that he knows already.

Are you laughing because both Hill and Buckner keep mentioning Michigan State as being in their "Top 3" despite being committed to Illinois?
I'm laughing because these kids want to take some visits and get "wined and dined", but they'll be Illini when it's all said and done.

Interesting that you think it's that they say they're "soft verbals" just to get "wined and dined." I'm that MSU's "verbals" aren't whistling the same tune and seem more "solid" than these 2 guys are with Illinois.

Also, have you or have you not already lost a couple decommits? Not saying that Buckner or Hill are coming to MSU, but you better be a little afraid of this continuing to happen (decommits) if Zooks keeps throwing out scholarship offers to every Ohio and midwest fb recruit not in an iron lung.

You are most likely right that they remain at Illinois, but I am surprised that you're laughing. I know if Maxwell, Baker, Norman, etc said that they are only "soft verbals" and listed their "top schools" I would not be so jovial. I know that you think we are just dreaming, but I think you are in denial.

That is exactly it. The dude doesn't want to believe that the Illini might lose one or two of their few recruits and he's in denial. "Oh, they just want to take trips." Right....

100% committed recruits don't have a "Top 3" list. You have a Top 1 list.

Illini fans did the same thing with Eric Gordon on other teams boards, if you say things will be ok over and over they will be. Well they kept doing that up until Gordon showed up in the **** hole that is Champaign wearing red and white, then they just threw things at his family.

Keith Nichol just wanted to take a quick trip to Oklahoma, but he was firm with MSU and it wasn't going to be a big deal. Look how that turned out

I don't want to jump on this bandwagon, but I will say I went to a game there a few years back and the smell of maneur hung over the campus like a cloud. It was an early game in September so alledgedly it's a by product of the nearby agri business. I know MSU has been called Moo U, but I can't recall every catching a whiff of cow crap near the stadium.

This was the ULTIMATE exercise in denial. I used to frequent tIlliniboard back when it was still a part of the Scout network (they've since split and both have a huge amount of activity, which indicates just how big it was before the split) and while all the rumors persisted about Gordon & IU, every time anyone would post about it AT ALL, the thread was deleted immediately and the poster banned. Hell, when he actually DID decommit and commit to IU, several posters attempted to break the news and the Nazi mods deleted the threads before determining their validity!

And just for the record, the old Illiniboard had the strictest mods EVER. Any negative comments about anyone even remotely associated with UI were deleted immediatly and the poster banned. They didn't allow anything critical to ever be posted. It was all SBing all the time, and if you didn't like it, FU. Good place for info (except Gordon to IU info), horrible place for discussion.

You do realize that you just made the point that your stadium is a dump, right?
You do realize that you apparently don't understand what the word "renovation" means?

Quote:

No, we had one decommit, an Ohio kid who switched to Ohio St, and that one is not over yet. That's quite a bit different than a Chicago kid decommitting from Illinois, when they both know a lot of guys already on the team and one of them has a former Illini player as his high school coach.

You shouldn't believe everything you read in Ohio papers.

Juice Williams visited Ohio St after he committed to Illinois. Zook encourages them to take visits, to make sure they are certain of their choice. These kids want to take their visits, who wouldn't want to go check out some other schools, go to a game and get a free trip to spectacular East Lansing, MI?

It is quite simple Illini, if this were no big deal, you wouldn't be here. You being here proves you have some nervous thoughts inside about this situation and rightly so. Look at our commitment list, who wouldn't want to come on over and join these other kids? I don't blame you for being nervous.

Yes, it means (per dictionary.com) "to restore to good condition; make new or as if new again; repair." Hence, if it needs to be restored to good condition, that necessarily means it is not in good condition. If it needs to be repaired, it is broken. The posters wrote that the stadium is a dump, meaning it is "broken". Now, you are renovating it, meaning that you realize that it is a dump, and hence, are trying to fix it.

"You shouldn't believe everything you read in Ohio papers."

I don't read Ohio papers. I just notice that Zookie hands out offers to kids in Ohio like he is a religious nut handing out pamphlets on the streets of Chicago.

highly unlikely, Kenny Britt(three years ago) and Melvin Fellows are the only two decommits during the zook years. Both ended up committing to their respective state schools.

So if it's "as if new again" then it would no longer be a "dump", right? You might have an argument had you made this claim before the renovations, though I would have disagreed. To make the claim after a $120 million dollar renovation is just

So you're stalking Ohio kids?

The renovations are definitely great at Memorial, but I still prefer Spartan Stadium just do the proximity of the seats to the field.

To Illinois' credit, they sold out all that premium seating before the construction even began. MSU still has empty suites and premium seats.

You guys have one decent season and all of a sudden you're untouchable. Weird.

Chances are that we won't get them. However, you are being delusional if you don't think that the way that both Hill and Buckner have approached this recruitment is odd. Maybe with the limited recruiting successes that Illinois has had, you're new to following it. Much like most Illinois fans. This is not normal. If people want to take trips, they take their trips and say that they are 100% committed. You don't say "yeah...I'm kind of committed" and list a Top 3 of schools and what you love about each of them. That is weird and by anyone who follows recruiting would seem that they aren't solid.

Again, it probably won't happen, but Buckner saying things like how he wants to finish up his recruitment and be done with it before January...well...aren't you committed? Isn't it done?
