The guy will be a STUD in college football, no doubt. It sucks we prolly don't have room for him. In a normal class we have him for sure. At 6 5 he has future 1st/2nd round receiver written on him

I think we are getting a little ahead of ourselves calling this guy a future 1st rounder and Randy Moss. He is tall, lets see if he can play D1 before the Lions pick him in the 1st round

It is EASY to see his superstar talent on film. I don't care who he's playing against. I watched Charles Rogers many times in high school and he wasn't this impressive. I say that without hesitation. If this kid has his act together, MD will get him on board. If we don't end up with him, then there were things off the field that weren't right. You don't pass on this type of talent. And yes, he looks like NFL talent.

I only pointed out he has a long stride ala Moss....It's not like I said he was the next Randy Moss or anything...

I don't think anyone is projecting him as a 1st or 2nd Rounder at this time but like I said barring injury he will eventually be playing WR in the NFL.

Wow, Rogers was one of the top ranked players in the country and could have gone to any school he wanted to. This kid originally had offers from Minnesota, Cinn. ,Purdue, and a few others.
I hear you guys though, I just get tired sometimes of the comparisons. I have been a subscriber to spartanmag for a long time and have read that this guy is the next Tim Duncun and he turns out to be Herzog. Not saying this kid doesn't have the potential to be very good, his tape looks great, and if he comes to MSU I hope he performs as well as Rogers did.

I get that, but I'm not Spartanmag. I watched Charles Rogers in person many, many times. I'm telling ya, Howard is more impressive from his tape. Not saying he'll be better than CR in college, but he looks better at the high school level. I'll 100% stand by that.

I don't care what has to happen (aside from removing a scholarship from someone already committed, that wouldn't sit well) but good lord fellas, we HAVE to pick this kid up in my opinion. He is an absolute stud, and the catch he makes about a minute and a half in to that YouTube vid (where he pulls the ball from behind the defender) is just plain unreal.
Kids like this, we have to find room for. Period.

If we get him we would be absolutely loaded with talent at wide receiver but that is why we are Wide Receiver U

While we're at it, can we get their QB too?

He is now a 5 star on scout. We need to make an exception here... period. You just cant pass on this sort of talent.

Let's look at that depth chart again but adjust it for the fall of 2009 when Howard and the rest of the class would get on campus
WR
White Sr
Williams Jr
Dell Jr
Cunningham So
Rucker So
Smith So
Martin RS Fr
White RS Fr
Spencer Fr
Fowler Fr
I look at that and I see a talented but young receiving corp. This is especially true when you consider that with the top 2 in experience you have a walk-on senior with 3 career catches, and an undersized junior with 0 career catches. Those two are role players at best.
Now, if you add Howard to the mix as a junior, he can instantly come in and add some experience and talent to that young receiver corp.
Is it a necessity? Absolutely not, but it is still a tantalizing option if the opportunity presents itself. Especially since he will be a december graduate who can be on campus for winter conditioning and spring ball.
|
Howard would come in as a Soph. with 3 years of eligibility left. Also, he appears to be D-1 ready, both in ability and physically and he can play and contribute right away in 2009, while Spencer and Fowler are red-shirted.

According to a rivals article I read about him, it says he has 3 years to play 2. that means he comes in as a junior but he does have his redshirt year if you wish to use it.

I getting more convinced Howard would be an awesome addition. If he has 3 years left and can contribute early. He appears to have the measurables and skill set.
That being said, MD knows him well. I bet it comes down to our current WR corps performance in camp and during the season combined with spots left.

He has 3 years left, but 2 to play. As wingfanjim stated as well

Which basically means he has two years left. With the talent we have coming up at WR, we don't need another guy who is going to redshirt. If MSU signs him, he's playing right away.

My prediction if Howard commits to MSU is that he plays right away as you mentioned. Our receiving corp. would be made up of Dell, Smith, Cunningham, and Howard on the top end of big performers. With quality depth provided by several young kids. Spencer, Fowler, White (depending on DB situation) might get a redshirt and come in a redshirt freshman ready to contribute big time.

Would be fun to see all of the different lineups we could use with the wideouts

well, if Dantonio helped him out and the kid wants to reciprocate by coming to MSU....that has the makings of a great story...I agree, sounds like MD has something already invested in this kid...if the kid has that kind of talent, MD will make room...although the sooner the commit the better

yeah, we didn't get enough of that with JLS.
Are you people forgetting that MD runs a pro style set, all these wideouts are pointless
