Julian was a JUCO. He went to Valley Forge Military JC.

It's actually called Valley Forge Military Academy and College. Julian was a JC All-American there.

I'm not a recruiting expert, but I do check out who else is offering the recruit. This guy has some heavy interest, which is even more impressive because he is JUCO, and so many schools shy away from JUCOs.
Hey remember Julian Peterson? And I always liked that Pekoe kid with the long red hair. If I were coach I would be all over getting Mr. Howard committed.
|
Julian Peterson and Domata Peko, yeah I remember them(Pekoe I don't remember though ), I was just pointing out that for every good JUCO we had, there was one who didn't do anything.

Peko contributed. There have been a few that haven't. Bobby Jones for one I can remember recently.
JUCO's serve a purpose, to shore up depth at a position. Few HS kids can come in and contribute in the trenches, a JUCO typically is stronger, and is more experienced, and can provide depth immediately, and possibly start.

I AM SO SICK OF PEOPLE HERE LUMPING ALL JUCOS TOGETHER!!! Can we get over it already. You can get a Juco and he can turn out to be one of the best ever to play for your school. You can also get a Juco and he can be garbage. JUST LIKE ALL OTHER RECRUITS! Are we going to sit here and toss examples back and forth? What is the point?!
If you think we shouldn't take this kid because he's a Juco, you either:
A) Didn't watch his video or
B) Are a moron and somebody should hit you with a stupid stick because you can't see talent when it is right there in front of you.

I said Peko did contribute. Anyways, thanks for clearing up how JUCO's work

Thats what I was doing a horrible job of saying. Every time someone talks about a JUCO the reply is... uh oh well Thomas and St. Dic, blah blah. JUCO players are just like HS players, some pan out, some don't.

I wasn't going off on you, just the entire convo and tossing in "Juco" everytime like it is bad thing.

Yeah, you just said things more clearly that I did. Every time it comes up either JUCO's are bad cause they only have 2 years, or they are good cause Julian Peterson and Devin Thomas.

DeAndra Cobb was also a JUCO. He was a TD return shy of tying the Big 10 record for kick returns.

What this whole argument boils down to is that we have had some very special players come here from the junior college ranks. Sure there have been a few who didn't meet expectations, but that can happen regardless of where kid is from. (JUCO/High School)
From what I've seen Howard is very talented and wold make a great addition to the receiving corps. Who are we kidding. We are not in a position to be snobbish and turn away a player with as much talent as Howard just because he is coming from the junior college ranks.

Well, I can't speak for others, but I am not being snobbish about Juco's when I say I don't think this kid is coming to MSU. I just don't know if we are recruiting him that hard because we already have two for sure WR (Fowler and Spencer) and two others that could play the position (Dixon and White). So, I don't think we are looking at WR anymore from most accounts....that being said, if we are, and Howard loves MD as much as he says and wants to be a Spartan, then I am all for it. If there is no room, then I wish him the best.
(And please don't anyone reply about "you make room for a guy like this". )

Ditto x10000000. I don't know why this is so hard for everyone to grasp.

because people see 5* on scout and only care about rankings.

Untrue, he got all the TDs he would have needed to break the record, however, Hawai'i/WAC refs took the record from him with a phantom holding call

Scout.com: Will there be Room for Howard?
Says MSU still has room for him and if he were to commit today it would be MSU.

Also read that he will be visiting the Cal MSU game. He hinted in one article that MSU and Cal were his top favorites. Hes also 6'3" 215, he said he is not 6'4".
Also not sure if anyone knew this, but he was the starting receiver after just a few weeks of practice at Cincinnati until he was declared academically ineligible.

Didnt know that. Thanks for passing that along. That is where the connection is... I always wondered how we even got into that recruitment.

Yeah, the kid went to Cincy to play for MD after the whole Minny thing fell through. Evidently, he LOVES MD, and views him as a father figure (there were numerous updates where he did not hide this to interviewers early in the Spring).
Actually, the JC guy on Scout interviewed him a couple months back, and basically stated in a Message board that he thought Howard was all MSU FWIW.
I think the question with this kid is more about academics at this point....remember, we had some issues last year with some of those JCs from Cali (the TE went to Marshall, and the LB went to L'ville I believe). That was largely due to our stringent transfer rules. Hopefully, this kid has it all straight, and he and MD can be reunited.
