We've only taken one JUCO kid total, so for Dantonio to offer this kid this early...he must have really seen something. I don't mind a couple Plaxico's (Although I believe he was a Prepschool kid, you get my point) and Peko's in there)

If MD really sees something, I'll trust him.

I know doesn't like to go after JC players, so for one to be offered so early and not as a last resort you know he has to be something special or this could show lack of confidence in the current young WRs...lets hope not.

Any idea if he has 2 or 3 years of eligibility remaining? I'm guessing two.

Wasn't Julian Peterson also a Juco or prep school player? Sometimes these guys make serious contributions.

Things and opinions have probably changed for MD considering what he saw in Devin Thomas.

I kid does the thing Thomas did and your evaluation changes and the way you approach changes. MD used to be against JUCO's now, with DT success, I think he realize that there is potential on a limited basis. (not the JLS JUCO route)

edit -- just read that, wow, I'm drunk

I read 3. But not positive. MD recruited him out of HS prior to JC, so he knows him well.

Not sure who we take / get out of the WRs we have offered.

And who was responsible for Peterson's recruitment to MSU in the late 90's? None other than Mark Dantonio.

Dantonio isn't against juco players, he just doesn't want to fill his roster with a bunch of two-year players the way JLS did. He will selectively target the juco's he wants, and you can bet that he has a higher standard for these players due to their limited eligibility. They have to be able to produce immediately and fill a void otherwise MD is going the high school route.

He has been in the game long enough to know what a juco can bring to the table, DT has nothing to do with this. MD obviously thought this guy was good enough for a scholarship even though he will only spend 2-3 years in the program, and would have offered no matter how Devin played last year.

I think that's a reasonable approach. JLS was treading water at best when trying to fill many of the holes we had (at many positions, not just WR). It's interesting that jucos were our best receivers the past two seasons (I feel Kerry Reed was the best in '06).

I trust that if Dantonio has offered Howard already that he must feel that the kid can play. We have quite a few offers out at WR at this point. I wonder how many we will end up taking.

According to his scout profile he was at Cinci as a freshman, so Dantonio was the one to recruit him out of high school. Scout.com: Jamar Howard Profile

It looks like he's having a hard time finding the right academic fit. Minnesota, Cinci, Sequoia, MSU?

according to that profile and his current profile, he has shrunk an inch and gained 10 lbs.

Still, 6'4", 210lb is a good sized guy to play NOW. Curious how he fits and where MD takes this one.

It is a Com. College in California. It is one of those CCs that is basically a juco football factory if I am not mistaken (like those in Kansas). I believe this is the same juco that the huge TE (Graham) and LB (Dempsey) that we recruited last year were from.

If he's a grad, that means he got his Associates, therefore probably has 3 to play 2. Could redshirt, but if Dantonio likes him enough to offer a JC, he must be pretty special.

there are rumblings that howard is a silent verbal over on enlightened spartan. i'm not sure if these are credible, but i like the sounds of it. even better, he may slide into a medical scholarship slot purported to be opening in the near future.

Enlightened Spartan and credible are utter antonyms, otherwise Dawawn Whitner would be a Spartan.
