The top QB in the state
Michigan Preps will be coming out with their instate player rankings in June and the player they will have #1 for QB regardless of class is Devin Gardner who is 6'5 200 lbs from Detroit who just transferred to Inkster. This means he will be ranked HIGHER than Andrew Maxwell and Mike Schaff, who are a year older. He's only 16 right now and ran a 4.70 40 Time, had a 4.3 shuttle time, 10 reps at 185 and jumped 10'9 on the vertical last weekend.
Expect big things from this Inkster team, (Cameron Gordon just transferred there to be the top WR target for this guy as well). It will be interesting to see if this guy will want to play in a prostyle MSU offense or the U of M option offense or even go out of state like the article suggests. Still a year away from his major recruitment though.

Didn't Michigan Preps also write an article which basically said if he got offered, Burrell would flip to UM along with Fred Smith? I know they wrote a completely nonsense article about MSU, but can't really remember what it was.

Well its good he doesn't play basketball, because with his 10'9'' vertical he would jump completely over the hoop

Yeah, MichiganPreps is a maize & blue rag. Anything from that site has to be taken with a MASSIVE grain of salt.

Based on what?
I would not over emphasize what is suggested in such an article (nor what any 16 year old tells a reporter) nor would I discount the potential impact that Cameron Gordon's leaning to MSU will have on the kid as time goes on and they bond with each other.

Well he knows quite a few people at Purdue. Former coaches of his coach there now I believe.
He has family in L.A. and they want him to be a Trojan.
Not to mention we have a 3 year starter possibly in Foles and then Maxwell after that. Doesn't leave a ton of room for him.

USC brings in a 5 Star QB every year. I don't think that would leave much room for him their either. Most college teams take one QB a year.

I hear ya on that . . . but still (because EVERYONE takes a QB every year) its a matter of being confident in your abilities and competing for the starting job wherever you go. I don't think Purdue will skip a class and I know USC is stacked. There is no doubt that um's depth chart woudl be appealing, but they will also likely be giving out multiple schollies at QB the next 2 years). So that could complicate matters quickly.
Finally, it's important to remember that MSU has a GREAT relationship with Inkster's coach (recall he was at DePorres when the ONLY Detrot players MSU got were from DePorres) and Coach Enos and Coach D have major MO rolling in SE Michigan reruiting.

The old michigan preps was a maize and blue rag, because one of the Michigan MODS was the lead writer. Rivals bought out Michigan Elite Football and let those writers take over. They are much less bias and I respect their opinions. They had Glenn Winston ranked #2 at RB I believe and had Mark Ingram #1 last year, much higher than anything rivals had. I am hearing good things about this qb from more than just that site, so I believe he will be a good one.

So Helmholdt isn't in charge anymore?!? I haven't been to that site in a long time because Helmholdt slanted everything so horribly and the messageboards were overrun by FTN/Prophet/KLouie/ or whatever he's calling himself now. I'll have to check it out sometime in the near future.

Jesus, talk about a horrible thrower. He makes Vince Young look like Joe Montana. But talk bout a good fit for Rich Rod's system.

still need to take QBs for depth purposes. Here is the eligibility chart at QB for the next few years as it stands right now.
2008
Hoyer Sr
Dixon So
Foles RS Fr
Cousin RS Fr
2009
Dixon Jr
Foles So
Cousin So
Maxwell Fr
2010
Dixon Sr
Foles Jr
Cousin Jr
Maxwell RS Fr
2011
Foles Sr
Cousin Sr
Maxwell So
Come that 2012 season, we better have SOMEBODY coming down the pipeline to challenge or backup Maxwell. Ideally, it would be nice to take at least one kid in that 2010 class who will already be a 3rd year player come 2012 when he will either be the starter (assuming he could beat out Maxwell) or the backup.
Always remember that recruiting isn't about next season or the season after. Recruiting is about 3 years down the road. If you are constantly recruiting to fill holes now, then the team is in trouble and you don't have a plan.

Really don't think that Dixon needs to be included in the QB playing group...

I think he's still listed as a QB so I kept him even though I agree with you. Either way, the questions surrounding Dixon remaining at QB further highlight my point that it will be necessary to bring in at least one QB in the 2010 class and probably another one in the 2011 class in order to have some balance to the depth chart.

I've seen one site (newspaper) that had Dixon on the Green team, but he has been injured and rehabbing from injury. When he comes back he'll likely be at WR or DB. Definitely should bring one in for 2010.

I hope we can get this kid in 2010. He definitely needs work on his throwing motion, but that can be coached. He would be GREAT for out system. he's a big strong QB who will hold up well in the pocket, plus he has that added bonus of mobility.
