I really hope that Gholston commits on signing to MSU to help with the 2010 class. The competition just picked up for him as Florida and Miami offered him recently according to rivals. If MSU could get an early commitment from him we could keep the recruiting momentum going for the 2010 class.

It seems to really be an MSU vs. OSU race.

Except that OSU hasn't offered. Per tOSU insiders, he'll have to camp there in June before the staff will extend an offer, and from the sound of it, there's a good chance he'll be committed to us before then.

That would probably mean that we don't get any more DE's in this class

A link isn't necessary, but it would be nice to know where you heard this from. How about the reliability of this information or source?
I can say that a pretty reliable source, that is close to recruiting for UM, has said that Gholston tried to verbal already to MSU but Coach D told him to think it over first. Now this source stated that he is still MSU bound and will make it public in the spring, and could be as soon as NLOID. This isn't a 100% lock or anything, but this person has been pretty knowledgeable this year. Also, add in the fact that he isn't an advocate for MSU and things look good with Gholston.
There's no question that we need Gholston in this class and this would help with momentum with the 2010 class.

It is from the Michigan rivals site in particular something from their premium board.
Similar situation when they posted info on Edwin Baker last year.

What I like most, if he commits (I only said "if" because he still hasn't committed to MSU), is that he knows Florida, Miami, etc. has/will offer him but he wants to play at MSU. I really can't wait to see him on the field, too bad it will be another year+. He seems like the type of guy that can influence other people to join the team and build another great class.

Agree 100% on the momentum angle. A big commitment like Gholston could entice others to jump on board, but it's much more effective in the Spring (after signing day and clsoe to junior days) that in the previous Fall.

maybe, but Bullough committed and that "momentum" didn't happen.
Maybe it will be different once the 09 class signs on the dotted line

Note that I stated that such a commitment is "much more effective" in terms of momentum when it takes place in the Spring as opposed to the previous fall because players typically have a much better idea where they want to go by then and are much more likely to pull the trigger. Like Cal said above, Chris Norman really jump started our 2009 class.

His commitment could've only impacted two or three prospects with offers for the 2010 class, such as Gholston, Gardner, Bolden and Snow (the only players with offers at the time). I wouldn't have expected Bullough's commitment to spark momentum for the 2010 class. Like it's been said on here with classes filling up faster and juniors days approaching I would expect an early commitment to help with the coming class. Also, Gholston seems to be very personable and would be able to help recruit other players to MSU.

I really hope Gholston commits on or soon after signing day. He along with Bullough will be a solid anchor to this 2010 class and will help to get things rolling! ( I also don't want his thread to fall off the first page)

This one is completely in the bag it appears. Just wondering how soon he officially joins the green guys...

Florida and Miami offered him over a week ago. Coach D knew that Gholston would get offers from most teams in the country. I wouldn't be surprised if USC offers him. The thing that most of us like about Gholston is that he seems to really like MSU and wants to be apart of this program, though I wouldn't call anything in the bag until he commits. If he commits to MSU soon then I don't think anyone should be worried about these type of offers. Like I said, Gholston knows he can go play anywhere, let's just hope it's at MSU.
