Did not get an offer at OSU camp (where he was reportedly the best player ), but will find out within 10 days whether he will or not. Currently on his way to EL for camp.

Actually there is a DL/OL little thing going on tomorrow that he may participate in.

I think they are going to feel out Watt and then if he is still looking, they will offer Prior and get his commitment and then decide what to do with Longo, Klatt and Spiker.
My guess is if they take 2 instate guys they take Longo and Prior along with Marcus Hall. But I just can't see them taking 6 guys on the OL.
|
And a lot of them say that they won't take more than four. Hope they get good news from Watt on his visit today....
On a side note: have we recruited Prior at all? If OSU doesn't offer, I wonder if we can get involved with him. I know you've read the recap, but for anyone else reading this thread, Prior tore up the OSU camp yesterday.

We are in on him but if he doesn't go to OSU he is very high on Florida State who has already offered.
Also most believe the number will be 5. Prior, Watt and Hall are the guys they are talking about.

According to Rivals, he stood out among all the others at camp.

Still nothing official, but all the OSU guys seem to think Klatt is a bit behind in the pecking order. Watt, Hall, Longo, Prior, perhaps even Spiker. I'm not worried about him ending up at OSU at all with only 4 spots left.
Who else does he have offers from? Kansas, Indiana, Cincinnati....? I heard he likes Northwestern too, but it's hard to believe we'd lose one to those guys and I'd scream if we do.

As I said, he really likes Northwestern...
Rivals $
Likes NU's academics and coaches...it is purple-slanted, but I wouldn't be suprised at all if he ends up there. Spiker would be a nice consolation prize though (I don't know enough to say that he is only a consolation prize, however)

He just seems like the perfect fit for MSU and vice versa. We've got all the skill position talent in the world coming in and we're just looking for some impact recruits for the O-Line. He'd have the opportunity to step in and play soon and play with premier talent. I think we are his best offer and we also have the best situation for him. It's time for him to put on the Spartan hat and become 4-Star #7.

We may be his best offer in regards to football.
However Klatt is a smart kid and probably isn't banking on going the NFL. I am sure he would love to but he knows it isn't a lock.
We don't offer the academcis that Northwestern offers and that is a major pull and why he is very high on them.
Wouldn't be shocked to see him go to NU.

MSU can still offer him a very solid degree,
I'll take msu's campus, and academic support (for athletes) over northwesterns every day of the week.

maybe a solid degree, but not a prestigious one. Its like comparing a degree from Stanford to one from Oregon State, which sounds like a better degree?
Not trying to knock MSU down, but if he is really interested in grades, NW would be a perfect fit. Plus NW always seems to land the really smart OL kid

I have to agree, however I found with my MSU engineering degree that I would not have gotten a better job with a higher end degree. It was my summer coop and interviews that got me the job I did. I asked those questions.
And after that, it was my job performance and interview skills that got me the next job and next job.
To me, a solid university is a solid degree. If you really want the diploma to speak for you, better go to Ivy League or MIT etc.

Well, no kid should bank on the NFL as anything can happen, but with our coaching staff, chances are better that he could make the NFL here rather than NW.

Nobody should bank on the NFL. However, if you are a 4 star athlete...you should chose a place where you will have the people in place to give you a chance at the next level and also the educational opportunities you need. IMO, you get both at MSU. If you work hard enough, you'll get the instruction to get you into the NFL. If you don't get there, you'll have a quality degree to pursue your career. NW doesn't give you the instruction you need to get to the next level in football. If I'm Klatt, I want both in one school...not just the education.

Have to agree with DrTre11 on this one over the glass half empty crowd . . . also w/r/t football we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that NW (spread) offense is NOT as conducive to preparing OL for the NFL as the pro-sets in place at OSU and MSU.
Remember how MSU's OL felt about standing in a 2 point stance for 95% of the plays in 2003-2006? Playing in that system just doesn't not help prepare anyone for the next level.
Clearly, anyone who has NFL talent can overcome scheme deficiencies but learning the proper technique over 5 years within framework of an NFL-styled system can't be ignored.
Finally on the academic front -- if a HS player with outstanding academics is looking to be challenged he should consider life within MSU's Honors College. I'd stack those students up against NW student body anyday -- that's just me, but the reality is that there are thousands of extremely gifted students on MSU campus everyday of the week, If anyone wants an academic challenge (in preparation for grad school) the opportunities at MSU are abundant.
So I think the opportunities at MSU weigh in our favor - IF someone is lookign beneath the surface - again just my opinion.

My cousin and friend go to NW and while they are smart, it isn't like they are on some other level. As mentioned above, there are plenty of extremely intelligent kids at MSU. It's just that we are a huge school that admits a broader spectrum. Take the top 5% and compare it to NW and you'd have a nice little battle.
But like I said, we can offer BOTH. Football and academics.

From Jayhawk Slant, a Kansas recruiting site via Buckeye planet. Top 4 of Kansas, Michigan State, Northwestern & Indiana. Says he's still interested in Ohio State, but those are his main schools. Would like to make a decision within the next week or two.
