ESPN Recruiting update - tOSU #4, UM #9, PSU #10
ESPN - Texas boasts best early recruiting haul for 2009 - Insider
Just in case the 2 recent quiet months didn't reign in our hopes for the class of '09 enough, perhaps this ESPN article gives us the dose of reality necessary. We're improving and that's great, but there's still a lot of mountain left to climb. Let's not kid ourselves.
insert anit-scout, anti-rankings, and UM conspiracy theory below.

I'm not sure going after professional tennis players will take us to the top

for having only a second year coach that isnt a 'big name' name and going <.500 the last 4 years, id say our recruiting class IS stellar

I don't think this is really that surprising. I think some got caught up in all of this and thought we would continue to land high profile players, especially the O-Line since we had Baker and Caper.
I think we will finish 25-30 just due to low numbers but it will still be a good recruiting class.

Lunginbil is a complete idiot. I love this comment...
"Yes, the Buckeyes have 16 commitments and this class is very strong, but we cannot put Ohio State ahead of LSU and Georgia until these prospects prove their worth on the field."
So, Georgia and LSU recruits have been playing college ball the last few year. Who would have known.
ESPN recruiting is just plain awful.

I don't care what the article says, our class is terrific. Not only that, it'll be the first big piece toward putting comparable talent on the field with the upper echelon BT teams.
I love our class thus far.

two quiet months big deal, Msu's still off to a great start. By no means is psu's class better then our's.

I'd be willing to bet we wind up with atleast 3-4 more 4 stars and finish inside the top 25 with 18 LOI signed.
there's still plenty of high-level players interested in MSU.

You can't have a good ranking until August, and in reality how many of Texas's 19 recruits are not gonna pan out. Somebody will tear an ACL, and then somebody else will burst onto the scene. Everyone needs to patient. Any olineman that gets offered before camps is either super legit, or the team is taking a chance. He could absolutely suck in reality. I like our approach. We're not offering based on scrimmage vids.

Have you ever looked at ESPN rankings...they give a whole bunch of guys 40. This is because they don't get a chance to scout them. We have two...Spencer, and Treadwell. Both are 4 star guys at Rivals.
I will say that I am glad that our staff is so diligent and patient and here is why...You fill up on a class quickly, and you can miss out on some guys. Look at a guy like Cascareno (sp?) What if we had quickly taken a couple OT/OG's quickly in the last two months. This guy had no offers, we offer him, and now he is blowing up. You miss out on guys like that if your class is done in April, eight months before signing day.

dont waste your breath arguing with a walmart schtick. This guy obviously knows nothing about recruiting if he's reading ESPN.
MSU has 5 4 stars another who's probably soon to be (maxwell) and two guys in the top 100 in june before any camps and we're suppose to be dissappointed.
MSU's not done by any stretch of the imagination either, there's still guys with heavy msu interest like Sims, hunter, custis, klatt, chris williams.

Perhaps my point (beyond sharing a recruiting link on a recruiting message board), wasn't as clear as it should have been: we've got a long way to go when you really compare us with the big guys. ESPN got all of their information from Scout & despite all of Scout's faults (who works there, which players they have yet to truly rank, etc.), it just shows that we're not ready to make the jump to a national top 10-15 recruiting class. Would anyone realy expect us to be at this point? Let's hope not (I sure don't)....but let's also keep in mind that we have a long way to go before we are where we want to be with the nation's best. Coach D must first build up the recruiting base in Michigan (check), then surrounding states (getting there), the entire midwest, and ultimately the nation. We're on the way, but we're not close yet.
Also, there is no correlation between reading ESPN & knowledge about recruiting. I'd venture to say that most all of the top recruiting gurus read ESPN as do people who could care less about college football, let alone recruiting. I think what you mean is there is a correlation between not knowing anything about recruiting and getting all of your recruiting information from ESPN, but of course this couldn't be deduced from my post, it's not what you said, and it's not true (for two reasons: 1) I follow recruiting & 2) clearly you would know something about recruiting if you read ESPN and something>nothing).

all garbage. If rivals had team rankings out right now MSU would be in the top 15.
Scouts a rag and run by a jerk off who loves to disparage MSU as much as possible (Tom Beaver), that's not opinion/conspiracy it's a fact.
You're still bitching about a recruiting class that very early on has commitments from 2 top 100 and 3 top 250 players and an elite QB.
is clearly recruiting at a very high-level right now. Only a moron could dismiss this

Just a clarification..Beaver does have influence over the rankings of state of Michigan kids, but he is not at all the person running the Scout network.

I was speaking more tongue and cheek. He has a ton of influence over the entire mid-west branch of the network.

nice logic, by their means, Maryland could be the #9 class

I think UM is perfectly ranked with who they have commits from already. 5 in the top 100?
MSU will, if they continue with what they have already done get into the top 20.
