Spiker Likely 'On Bubble' In Terms Of Being Offered By OSU

Says that his top 3 is MSU, WVU, & IU. Sounds like we've got a great shot if he doesn't get an offer. So at this point, we hope OSU lands Hall/Watt/Martinez, or offers Prior if they strike out on one of them. Klatt + Spiker would be a fantastic OL haul from Ohio.

Doesn't seem like he's been very active as of late. Anyone heard anything that hasn't been posted here yet?

There's some really good insight in BuckeyePlanet's official Ryan Spiker thread for those of you who care to read up on him:

I don't know why you say that...there was only one slightly negative thing in terms of our chances and that was a friend of a friend conversation in which he said that all the teams were equal with WV maybe favored. Not exactly concrete and not exactly a premium source.

I think we have an excellent chance, especially with Klatt a fellow Ohio kid in green now. If WV is our competition, I'm happy. Have you ever been to West Virginia-whoa. They ought to put a fence around the state and just use it as a prison because it is hell being there.

Charleston is a nice little city nestled in the mountains. I thought it was beautiful. Now the people there and aren't my cup of tea, but it is one of the few states on the east coast that has real beauty, with all the rivers and forest (and all surrounded by poison ivy).

I wouldn't live there, but it is nice

I know, i was referencing West Virginia as a state.

But on that Morgantown is known as a hell of a college town with a great game day atmosphere

Funny. Sitting in a steakhouse in Charleston right now.

I prefer Koehne and Thornton. But that doesn't matter.

Don't mean to be a , but the post on Scout is a link, with a quote from Spiker saying he was going to commit to MSU last week, but was told we were looking for OT at this point, and we were set at OG. HR pointed out how this is a positive sign.

I just said the he committed elsewhere. Wasn't making it out to be a positive/negative thing.

It is too bad we have limited scholarships this year. If we were taking 20, we could always take a great OL prospect.

I think I can count on 1 hand how many recruits I remember that were this good, wanted to commit, and we didnt have room.

Sorry ferd...I just figured that people would say that the Scout guys had some sour grapes,...ie, "we turned him away, and hence, he went to WVU." In this case, I wanted to make clear, the recruit himself said so.

No problem.

Too bad we didn't have more room this year.

We have come a long way to be able to say something like this.

Not being able to take Striker is a real negative since good OL prospects are hard to come by. He would probably be in the OL rotation as a RS Soph.
The really bad part of this situation is that MSU is still saddled with John L.'s last two less than stellar recruiting classes (37 seniors, 18 Juniors and 14 RS Sophs = 69 players) of which the only impact player is Javon Ringer and possibly Brian Hoyer and Eric Gordon; the rest are all basically role players !
