I somehow doubt this kid has less potential than Vushaj.

July offers/verbals are NOT plan C guys

getting a commit in July is about as far away as possible from 'settling' for a 'plan c' recruit...
and a kid that has three legit D1 offers before his senior season is a kid who should be a 2 star automatically by default. especially when you se this kid's measureables. I can guarantee you he'll end up a 3-star prospect.
add to that the fact the staff camped him then offered, the same staff that put Davis-Freeman in play last season, and I'd say the coaches know 100% what they are doing.

I gotcha chief....to get back on track, I think everyone on here agreed that we needed a TE in this class and this does fill a real need. Put faith in . He does know what he is doing. The kid is 6'6'' so he will be able to carry more weight.15 pounds under coach Manny in three and a half months easy.

WOW!
This one came out of the blue. I step away from the chronic (tRCMB and SpartanMag) for a while and all sorts of stuff are happening.
Welcome Derek!
Has the size, speed (a 4.9 for his size, are you kidding me?)and most of the offer from MD to make me happy about this!

You're calling Vushaj a "stud" when he has 2 stars (which is what you care about) and has a less impressive offer sheet than this guy?
Not very bright are you.

It was being reported on another pay site, that's why if you read the original post it says, "word on the street...". Not trying to post rumors.

If he loved MSU so much, he should have jumped on board.

To be fair, he WAS listed as a commit in the commit list (that anyone can read) well before they put up the article...buuuuut, I probably should have deleted the first thread that popped up on the main board when that person posted it to begin with. It's premium content and people just shouldn't do that. We have a tenuous relationship with SM and GSN as it is.

Guys, the coaching staff has known about this kid for a long time. Read the article on SpartanMag....they camped him, reviewed his footage and offered. And, even with other BCS offers, accepted right away. This kid is plan A, period.
I know Sims is what you all are hoping for, but it's been widely reported that his heart isn't even in football. Honestly, I'll take a kid who wants to be a Spartan with no stars all day long over a kid who might not even want to play football.

I don't think he can because of all the academic stuff. From what I hear, his offer is, in a way, conditional.

He didn't have a commitable offer.
The staff liked him but his offer was based on grades and getting those up.

Did not know that.
BTW, here is what SpartanMag has on the front page...

Before participating in Michigan State's July football camp on Saturday, Vermilion(OH)tight end Derek Hoebing thought he was going to Maryland. But those plans changed when Mark Dantonio called Hoebing on Sunday

so for perspective, balance and fairness, since you ripped the kid, have you also seen Derek play? Wouldn't that be the true basis for comparing someone- looking at what they do on the field rather than on rivals? And again, kid has legit D1 offers, and remember the TE history of Maryland, in case you don't know it, it is strong.

Do some of you honestly think the staff would take a player in July they did not think would help?
He has better offers than Klatt.

I would argue that Kansas is a bigger offer than UVA or Maryland.
And Klatt was injured and he was next in line for OSU. That solidifies him there.
But the kid is a very good pickup.

Nice to have a 6-6/245 TE...very powerful. Will fit well on what should be a very powerful OL in years to come.

I have no issues with Klatt either. The fact that both of these kids were offered by Northwestern, and Derek by Stanford should tell you a little something. Greg Jones best offer was from Minnesota.
This program is being built the right way.

Exactly. Anyone doubting the TE evaluation of both Virginia and Maryland need to do some research before speaking. I know one Maryland TE recruit from my tiny Macomb County school that made it to the NFL after being schooled at Maryland. Trust MD and the others on this one.

to people doubting him here is what we know then you can make your decision he has very good size for a tight end he moves good for a TE he blocks well for a TE he is a smart kid he gets off blocks well at the DE position and I would assume that since he got a offer in July he can probbably catch and UVa and Maryland may not be Usc or LSU but they are known for their TE's so I think it might be safe to trust someone who has seen him in and not someone who really has not in Rivals and Scout | | |
