In your estimation...how does MSU finish out this class?
What are the remaining needs...who do you see filling those needs?

MSU still needs 2 more OT's and I think we get france and koehne,
another linebacker who can compliment norman which I believe will be hammock
another corner, barnett
A pass rushing DE hopefully davon custis
beyond that if we go to 18 you can toss in an athlete like cam gordon who could fit multiple roles.
will see how things shake out with buckner, hill and sims and if any more ships free up over the season. I think state will continue to recruit these guys and make room if we're able land any of them.

i'm no recruiting expert... but i've noticed that we have 10 offensive guys and only 2 defensive guys. considering we're pretty well rounded in this class when it comes to the offense... why would we go after more offensive players?

You could swap out Koehne with Thornton, but otherwise you are dead-on in my estimation.
I love the versatility this class has. So many guys could project at so many different postions. It will be fun to see where everyone ends up.

DE: Custis
LB: Hammock and/or Luke Kuchley
CB: Barnett
OT/DE: France
OT: Thornton
OG/OT: Koehne
As we were reminded yesterday, there is likely new names and faces that we may not be aware of, but for what we know now...I'd have to say the above list represents potential guys to fill out the class.

It's because we took 5 LBs last year, 2 CBs and 2 S and have 3 DTs who are Soph or RS frosh this year. Our D is young, so we can't off PT as a major selling point.
Edit: What I meant to say is that we don't need to bring in a ton of players on the D side of the ball, so we can be very selective and just pick up guys to fit our need. We need DEs and that's about it. Next year probably should get 2 DTs. ..but with Wilson, Wheat, Jeremiah, Pickleman and now Worthy all in their 1st or 2nd seasons, that position looks deep for years to come. Add in Treadwell and you have a nice looking 2 deep at that position. Hoover will be in the rotation for DE for the next 4 years. Now you just need DEs to cover Trevor Anderson's departure in 2 seasons. I think we can find that.
Our D is promising, it'll be young, but talented.

I think you pass on LB (and even OL) unless someone like Hammock really steps up. I would rather put a full court press on Bullough and/or someone like Jamal Turner from IL who are potential elite prospects, then battle with Indiana and MAC schools for a lower caliber recruit.
Looking ahead to 2010 is just as good a barometer as looking back to 2008.
Plus, the consensus is that 2009 is a relatively down year for lineman (that isn't to say OSU and ND are not wrapping up elite prospects), whilst 2010 is shaping up as way above average, specifically in the Midwest.
Lets prove ourselves on the field this year and then do battle at the elite level recruiting, while leaving Indiana and Purdue to fight over MAC retreads.

Its because we don't have 10 offensive guys and 2 defensive guys. Although Rivals lists Pat White at WR and Treadwell at center.
On offense we have Maxwell, Caper, Baker, Klatt, Spencer, Fowler, Hoebing and Reynolds.
On defense we have Treadwell, Norman, Dixon and White. So 8-4 for the offensive end.
As for the original question I think it shakes out like this:
OT/DE Dan France
CB Lawrence Barnett
LB TyQuan Hammock
OT/OG Kyle Koehne
DE Davon Custis
That way we would wind up with 10 offensive guys and 7 defensive guys. Pretty balanced class.

That's not exactly true. Don't let where the recruiting services fool you as to where these guys are going to play.
Treadwell - DT
Norman - LB
Dana Dixon - DB
Pat White - possible DB, possible WR
Our guys are so versatile....that's a good advantage. IF we pick up Dan France, he could also possibly play OT, TE or DE/DT. I don't think we can pigeon hole any of these players into one position or even one side of the ball.

Interesting...no Thorton in your prediction. A hunch or something else?
Also 49ers, how confident are you France? After reading the write up on SpartanMag, I am not so certain that was all great news. He has three schools he mentioned he was looking at and was not able to name a clear leader. Perhaps I am reading that piece wrong?

Not so sure why everyone is pegging in Thornton over France and Koehne. Thornton never made it to camp and plans on waiting. Custis is waiting but we don't have a great DE out there that is going to take his spot.
I am very confident in France. I would be very shocked if we don't land him. Klatt is in his ear and to me there is a reason why he moved up his decision.

I agree with this. I hope to see 'colors' this week...pure speculation however.

We aren't taking 2 DEs unless France winds up there.
However better shot, if we get him, he lands up at OT. He was VERY impressive there at camp.
We have 4 slots left, 5 at the most. 1 or 2 needs to go to OL, 1 needs to go to DE, 1 needs to go to LB, 1 could go to DB.
I think after this week we could see 2 more jump on board.

With probably 6 spots to fill, I believe this is who State is looking at :
2 - OL from this group ; Kyle Koehne, Hugh Thornton, Ryan Spiker, Charles Chapman, Henry Conway, Alvin Bailey, (outside chance for Jeff Fantuzzi).
2 - DE from this group ; Davon Custis (I think he is still looking for a Notre Dame offer), Dan France (can play strongside DE or OT), Dylan Farrington (could develop into weakside DE pass rusher).
1 - MLB from this group ; TyQuan Hammock (still wants a Notre Dame offer), Brandon Killebrew (has MSU offer), Darius Moffet (has MSU offer).
1 - Pure CB from ; Lawrence Barnett (can also return kicks & play WR), Antonio Wallace (Florida player has MSU offer).
Possible Athlete - Cameron Gordon (wants U of M offer), Jamar Howard (says he wants to play for Dantonio), Dion Sims (who knows?).

1) Unless something unexpected happens, it is looking like there are only 5 spots left.
2) Custis has been quoted as saying that he got a ND offer in early June, but has not heard much from them since.
