'09 Recruiting updates (from insiders)
A couple of little birdies told me a few things:
1. Will Campbell is NOT coming to MSU.
2. Cam Gordon and Vushaj are still "locks" for MSU--but we might not have space for them by the time they decide or qualify, respectively.
3. Thomas Gordon is a strong UM lean, but MSU hasn't exactly given up on him (and he hasn't told the coaches--at least not ours--that he's going to UM).
4. MSU's recruiting efforts at this point are mostly focused on the two guys from Illinois. MSU hopes that a) they want to come here, and b) we still have space for them if they do decide to come here (there are certainly other kids interested in playing for us).
5. We're looking at 2, MAAAAYBE 3 more commits.
6. No commitments are expected in the really near future (although this might change in a couple weeks).
AA, if you believe this shouldn't be a post of its own I understand and you can move it wherever...

Ok, maybe "lock" isn't the correct word, but he's a very very very strong MSU lean and has been for months.
However, he wants to go through the entire recruiting process, visit different schools, etc.
He could basically commit anytime if he wanted to... but MSU isn't waiting for him.
If 2 or 3 other guys that we want jump on board, Cam Gordon doesn't come to MSU simply because we won't have space for him. But yeah... I guess he could change his mind after visiting other places... doesn't seem like it though.

I like Cam Gordon a lot as a safety, he's big for the position, physical, very good ball skills
I think vushaj comes in as a grey shirt, kids defintely got talent though.

I am hearing that they are still very, very, very firm to Illinois and are only taking trips to live it up and get others to come to the Illini.

Im assuming by the two Illinois guys you mean Buckner and Hill, but Rivals says weve offered Kraig Appleton who is a 6.0 rivals rating (same as Baker), I was wondering if you were maybe referencing him?? I haven't heard anything about him

The square is seldom if ever cool ... He is "not with it", that is, he doesn't know "whats happening." But if he manages to figure it out, he moves up a notch to "hip." And if he can bring himself to approve of what's happening, he becomes "groovy." And after that, with much luck and perseverence, he can rise to the rank of "cool."

He better hurry up, not for our sake, but for his own. The rest of his offers leave something to be desired....

Pressuming we use three scholarships to finish off this class, who do you want to finish out this class. I hope we get Buckner, Hill, and either Gordon.

Buckner and Hill.
Those are our two main targets... as for how we're looking... not bad. I'm not saying they're in the bag or anything even close to that... but not bad.

Cam Gordon (always loved his combination of athleticism&physicality plus he's versatile, he's played D a lot longer then thomas gordon and he's also a lot bigger)
leon hill, lendell buckner plus bring Vushaj in as a Grey shirt (kids got 3 sacks in 3 games, I like his upside at DE he's big at 6'5" 245lbs and he runs well)

I thought we where done on the O-line but it doesn't surprise me if they'd make an exception for hill.

Well, I hope the coaching staff does not waste their time with them if they are truly solid with Illinois. I have a feeling we are getting strung along to a degree.

I don't really think it is wasting time. I mean it isn't like we have 10 slots available.
We only have a few slots left and we don't really have defensive lineman on the radar.
The ones that are, have grade issues. So might as well try to flip a guy like Buckner and if we feel really good on him going into the last few months we spend a lot of time on him.
If he comes to a visit and says no thanks then at least we tried. But I would rather see us try for a big guy like him than take a qualifying risk at this time before seeing what happens with that.

Interesting note, a former MSU assistant is recruiting these two for Illinois and a former Illinois assistant is recruting them for MSU.
