Oregon has 2 CB's in this class and leads for another, who almost committed to Oregon on his visit there. Who knows how many CB's these schools will take, but MSU is in the best position in regards to playing time, playing close to home, relationships with the coaching staff and being friends with some of MSU's current committed prospects. He will visit Oregon for the USC game, we'll likely know where we stand after that game.

Whose the four? I count 3, unless a RB is changing to defense

There has been some speculation by insiders on our side that we will lose Mathis because he won't pull the trigger fast enough. It is true that we're starting to fill up at DB. Nobody really knows how many we'll take - some have suggested however that it could be as many as 5 (but between CB and S you would figure that really only leaves us room for 1 more CB with two already committed.) To some it feels like Oregon will end up with Troy Hill from St Bonaventure in CA, or Mathis - but not likely both. All of that said Oregon recently changed course and decided not to offer a 2nd QB for this class - and it's possible that available scholarship might be used to try and get both of these kids. This could go many different ways, obviously. Congrats on your win btw.
edit - and fwiw I suspect Mathis will be given a lot to think about if he follows through with his visit plan. Halloween night against the Trojans - it should be quite a scene.

Miami has commits from CB's Jeremy Davis, Kacy Rodgers, Raheam Buxton and recent commit Devonta Davis. I would think that they are likely done at CB.

Thanks for the info. There should be a great atmosphere at that game, I'm sure he'll be impressed, but I hope he wants to play close to home. With such a good CB class last year would Oregon take 4 CB's in this class? I would think that they would focus on some other positions rather than load up at one position in back to back classes. Anyways, always good to get some information from another interested party. Keep us updated.

I hope you get him. Also, it's likely that UM will get Tony Grimes after they offered his teammate. They've stated that they want to play together and Wisc. fans aren't very optimistic about them. Here's to hoping UM gets both Christian and Grimes and MSU getting Mathis.
Athletic CB's is what MSU needs in the secondary. I would hope that they can get Mathis so we can play more man/press coverage. He definitely has the speed to hang with most WR's. Ill. is a team that should concern us also, since he has a teammate committed there. The opportunity of early PT and playing close to home will definitely help MSU in his recruitment.

It does seem unlikely admittedly...
We're only losing two CBs after the season... oddly enough both of them are done with their seasons already :x (Not that that's relevant.)

Per The Front Page Interview....
Finalists are MSU, Tenn, and Oregon.

If this is really his final 3, and it doesn't include Michigan... Then this is great news for MSU. But his recruitment has been a lot of smoke in a lot of places so I'm not taking anything serious until he signs a LOI. Verbals won't even mean much to me...

Seems like those Cass Tech kids love creating drama in recruiting. Switching up top schools and such. Remember Will Campbell said "UM is off list" merely days before committing to UM.
Regardless of whether or not he commits to MSU, those comments about Dantonio are nice to hear.

I have to think that UM having Grimes, Knight, and Cullen all ahead of him on their list could be hurting UM's chances. I have not seen a single post concerning Dior in at least a month on UM sites.

Just to clarify, Mathis didn't claim these schools as his finalists. These are the three schools that are recruiting him the most. MSU has made him a top priority for awhile now and it seems that it could pay off. Tenn. took 4 CB's in last years class. Oregon has good depth at CB and may receive a commitment from another CB in the next few weeks, making it 3 CB's in this class. They will likely be done at this point, but IMO they would take Mathis too. UM is still an option. They aren't as high on him as they are on other prospects, but if UM misses on some of the prospects they are suppossed to get Mathis could get more interest.
MSU should and does have a great chance. They are close to home, need CB's and present the opportunity for early PT. IMO, this comes down to whether he wants to stay close to home and whether UM wants him. As of now, UM seems to be higher on Christian and Grimes and are likely going to get them. They would likely be done at CB if they get both. MSU has all of the options and benefits for Mathis, hopefully he commits here.

you just got a commit from an unranked Saftey named Carvin Johnson. although he is not a corner i believe your scholarship total is down to 5 for a full class. there just isnt enough room for Dior unless those 3 guys pick someone else.

Agreed. Although UM is sorely hurting in DB depth so they may do something crazy, but I think Mathis is the odd man out if Grimes and Cullen choose UM.

As if you guys just get to choose. Last I checked, Michigan was trailing behind in this race since 9 months ago.

I could be wrong but I think if UM had been putting the full court press on this kid they would be in the lead with the coaches help. Not 100% sure just my opinion. I am just saying that this kid does not seem to be UM's plan A and so he is looking elsewhere.

He has not committed yet but it sounds like it is a sealed deal. He is not sure if he wants to wait til the game to commit so he could do it at his high school tomorrow at the ceremony.

Bummer if true.
Hopefully OSU doesn't have enough room for Bryant...
Otherwise a Schofner, Cadogan, Thomas finish would be okay...

Even if Mathis doesn't commit to Oregon, I am really getting tired of the Ducks recruiting in our back yard.
