No, see Mathis discussion thread, there's almost no way we're farther back than #3 with a good shot at getting him. Miami just picked up a fourth CB recruit, UM leads for two other solid corners that could be committing soon, Oregon is far away. I still like our chances with Mathis, I'd put him down as more likely than Bryant, but here's to hoping!

Defensive back Christian Bryant (Cleveland/Glenville) will make his first official visit this weekend.
"Yeah, I'm going to Michigan State," Bryant said. "We play Friday so I'll probably go on Saturday morning.
"I'm trying to get my Tennessee visit Nov. 7, and one with Ohio State, but I haven't got anything scheduled for sure. Michigan State is the only one scheduled for sure. But I'll visit all three for sure."
The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder has close to two dozen scholarship offers, but said nothing should be read into those three schools being out in front.
"I really don't have any leaders," Bryant said. "I have a top five, or maybe six or seven. I might visit North Carolina. I might visit Miami or Georgia. I'm just going to see who my favorite is after my official visits."

Bryant seems like the more feasible prospect for us, (and I'll take him) but wow what a win this Saturday could possibly do. With the possibility of PT right away you'd think we would have a great chance with at least one of them.

Can anyone sum up the article? Obviously we had a great atmosphere for him, but what was all said?

"I liked it there," Bryant said. "The night game and all, it was a good environment to be in. It was tough they lost, but everybody was going crazy."
Certainly Bryant was impressed with more than just the football game, which went down to the last play with the Hawkeyes pulling out the win.
"I saw the campus," Bryant said. "I ate breakfast with the players on Saturday morning. I saw how excited they were the whole day. I saw how their game preparation is. It was good to see everything hands on. And I got to meet (MSU basketball coach) Tom Izzo."
However, Bryant was impressed most by the campus.

To summarize, he had a good visit and really liked the coaching staff. Official to Tennessee this weekend, Ohio State after the season and he will make a decision in late December-early January.

I'm surprised nobody's posted this little tidbit from Detroit News recruiting guru Sam Webb ....looks pretty good. Looks like his Mom is gonna be a big factor (the portion of the article below in red). I think this favors us....As far as the minority thing goes, we were one of the first football programs ever to recruit black athletes.
For almost a decade now, Cleveland Glenville High School has stood as one of the most fertile talent hotbeds in the country. Over that same period, one program -- Ohio State -- has harvested the best of that talent. Many challengers have attempted to outduel the Buckeyes for the likes of former Glenville greats like Ted Ginn Jr., Donte Whitner and current OSU standout Jermale Hines, but most have gone home disappointed. This year that run of dominance could finally end, and Michigan State could be the team playing the role of spoiler.
The Spartans are currently in strong shape for Glenville's jack-of-all-trades star, Christian Bryant. The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder is one of the most talented and versatile athletes in the Buckeye State. That much was confirmed during an impressive showing against a talented Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne team last month. Wayne features future Michigan Wolverine cornerback Terrence Talbott and defensive tackle Terry Talbott, along with highly-coveted junior quarterback Braxton Miller. Bryant stole the show that day, rushing for 100 yards on 12 carries from his quarterback position, throwing for 129 yards on 6-of-10 passing, kicking a field goal, and returning an interception 82 yards for one of his three touchdowns. That was par for the course for a youngster that was one of the elite performers a few months prior at ESPN Rise Gridiron Kings 7-on-7 competition in Orlando.
"His teammate (on his squad in Orlando) and in high school, safety Latwan Anderson, won defensive MVP. While it was close, I thought it was actually Bryant who had the best day," said Scout.com Midwest analyst Allen Trieu. "(Bryant) did not allow a single completion and it was not for lack of effort on the other teams' parts. They threw at him some, but he broke up several passes and had tight coverage all day. He made a huge play late in one game where he jumped a short pass, picked it off and returned it for a touchdown. I loved his competitive attitude and his coverage skills. He is already rated pretty high, but I came away thinking he was still underrated." He is rated the sixth-best cornerback in the country by Scout.com, "and I think he could even be a little higher," Trieu added. "He is a shutdown type cornerback who has a knack for making plays. He's aggressive, confident, and a great athlete."
Michigan State hosted both Bryant and Anderson on official visits last weekend, but it was Bryant that reacted the most glowingly to his time in East Lansing. "I think it was a good visit," Bryant told Scout.com. "It was only their ninth overall night game they ever had and they were playing Iowa. The atmosphere was crazy -- 75,000 people and the game was sold out. "I got to better my relationship with the coaches all weekend," he continued. "They were real cool about everything. They didn't try to pressure me into a commit or anything. They were just talking to me like I was one of them -- like I was one of their players. They were real cool. I saw the player-coach relationships and it was good."
Even Anderson took note of just how much his teammate was enjoying himself. "I heard (Bryant) say a few times that he had fun," recalled Anderson. "He was laughing and cheering with the rest of the people at the end. I think he had a pretty good time." The visit likely strengthened Michigan State's standing in Bryant's recruitment, but the degree of that improvement isn't yet known since he hasn't announced any sort of pecking order. That said, Trieu believes Mark Dantonio's program is still chasing a very clear frontrunner.
"Michigan State, Ohio State and Tennessee I think are really the three main contenders," said Trieu. "At this point, I think Ohio State is the team to beat. That's not just because he is a Glenville kid, but because he also had a really good (unofficial) visit there, and it is one of the options where he and Latwan could end up together." The same can be said of Michigan State, but in the end, the fact that the package deal scenario doesn't seem to be a deal-breaker could be a good thing for Spartans.
"We haven't talked about it that much," Bryant told Scout.com. "We are just trying to win a state championship. We're going to get to that (recruiting) after the season." One of the ways in which MSU might be able to close the gap is by forging a strong rapport with Bryant's mother. Tonya Ellis was unable to accompany her son on the visit to East Lansing, but she definitely will play a pivotal role during the decision-making process.
"Me, his dad, his coach and Christian all will probably sit down and talk about some things and make some decisions," she said. "I want Christian to go where he feels most comfortable. I'm going to look at some pros and cons and I'm sure his dad is going to have his pros and cons." Ellis' comfort with Michigan State could increase in the coming weeks as she sets out to learn more about the program.
"I really want to sort of talk to the coach myself, as I didn't get the opportunity to go up there," Bryant's mother explained. "Football-wise, I think him and his dad can pretty much cover that portion of it. With regard to football from my perspective, I just want to make sure he gets a fair chance there. I'd like to know how many defensive backs they are actually recruiting and how many senior players or younger defensive back they currently have. With regard to academics, for minority kids I want to know what their graduation rates are -- how many minority kids are being graduated? I have a lot of questions."
How those issues are addressed could be the difference between the Spartans being Buckeye slayers and Buckeye victims. Fortunately for the Green and White, there's still plenty of time to further state their case.
Said Bryant, "I'll commit sometime in late December-early January for sure."

Nice Article, thanks for the post.
I'm glad he had a good time, but it seems like LaTwan Anderson (not to change topics) didn't come with an open mind at all (from all that I've heard). I hope Bryant make the right decision based on football and not "night life"

But hey, ya never know about Bryant. I think our coaching staff makes a pretty good impression on parents, and his mom appears to be pretty serious. The Skandalaris Center is awesome (at times, I've thought that maybe it's the icing on the cake for some recruits), and what if he has a much better chance of getting PT at MSU than at tOSU?

This is the best Glenville team he's been on and they're looking forward to the playoffs so they can prove the doubters wrong. He had a great time at MSU and thinks he could be successful if he went there. Other 3 schools of interest include: UNC (followed basketball as a kid), Tennessee (former teammate, coaches w/ NFL experience), & Ohio State (familiarity, tradition). Commitment timetable for around the 1st of the year.
