maybe hemholdt is trying to be fair. he left off Jackson, a 2010 commit to SCum, in his top 10 state prospects of 2010. but i have all the confidence in sam webb to put him at #3

Josh is a homer, but he does at least make attempts at calling things straight. Webb is a homer beyond reason, however. He will "defend" Michigan any way he knows how. Poor journalism of the worst kind.

That list was for uncommitted prospects. I would say a kid with his offer list is a top 10 Michigan kid.

The Tigers have also been recruiting Renaissance linebacker Lawrence Thomas, one of the top prospects in the midwest in the class of 2011.

He "officially" received a verbal offer from Dantonio on Tuesday (he promised him a Sept 1st offer) and said MSU is far and away his leader.

I am not sure Dantonio would take a commitment only with a verbal offer but is that an option with him.
It seems like he could commit over the summer if that is true.

edit: I see it was 10/9, so after.

Scout.com: Chicago Combine: MVPs
Quote:
Offensive MVP :: DeAnthony Arnett – WR – Saginaw (Mich) :: Class of 2011
It is tough for underclassmen to take home this honor, but Arnett had an impressive day all-around. It all started with his forty yard dash. He had sprained his ankle earlier in the weak and even looked a little gimpy running his forty, yet, his 4.51 was one of the top times on the day. He then followed that up with a 4.23 shuttle, which tied for tops on the day. In footwork drills, the coaches consistently remarked at how smooth and quick out of his breaks he was. However, during one route, he let out a scream and said he felt something pop. After a few minutes and against the advice of his family members, he returned to the field, saying he wanted MVP. In 1-1s, his route running was impressive and his quickness off the line allowed him to get off the line against some of the more physical defenders. He made a couple of great leaping grabs and drew some oohs and aahhs from the peanut gallery on several double moves where he left his man.
Recruiting Update: Things have picked up for young Mr. Arnett. His lone verbal offer is still standing from Michigan, but he has recently received more interest from schools like Tennessee and Wisconsin, who have both been up to the school. He made a quick stop at the Michigan State spring game before leaving for a basketball event as well. This summer, he is planning camp stops at MSU, Michigan, Ohio State and a few more which have not been set yet.

Underclassman MVP :: Kenny Mullen – CB – Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (Ind.) :: Class of 2011
Mullen was right there with Hicks as the day’s best cover corner. In fact, out of all defensive backs, he made the most plays on the ball. He had a great play where he recovered on a double move by Arnett, cut in front of the route, batted the pass up in the air and came down with the interception. He has change of direction and instincts, which allow him to get the early jump on routes. He also has great ball skills. He had been at our Cincinnati combine and had a good day, but he returned this week looking to improve on that and he did. He was one of the guys who turned everybody’s head. Recruiting Update: Mullen is just starting to see his recruitment pick up. He says two of the schools recruiting him the most are Indiana and Michigan State. He has been to both campuses and will likely camp at both again this summer. However, we expect many more schools to jump into the picture soon.

DeAnthony Arnett has an offer from UM. This is from an interview with ex-UM receiver Toney Clemons. Thought he had an interesting perspective on the WR position and how it's used with the new staff at UM. I am pretty sure Arnett will be offered by MSU soon, probably this summer.
Article:
It’s all about the schemes you run. I’m a big, fast, strong receiver. I pride myself on running all the pro-style, technical routes, and that system they’re running there, it’s not really built for receivers. With the quarterback always running, the receivers don’t become as much of a factor. Coming in, you got to find something that fits for you. And Colorado, they throw it. They do a lot of stuff that (former Michigan offensive coordinator Mike) DeBord and (former Michigan quarterbacks coach) Scott Leffluer were doing, in fact that’s who they built their system off of. They know I can stretch the field, I can run after the catch, I can go get the deep balls, I can catch balls in traffic, and I can read coverages and I can beat defenders one-on-one. They have the kind of scheme I fit into. At Michigan, they liked to do a lot of reverses, bubble screens, etc.

Not sure where to put this as it's about a 2012 kid.
"Jabri Dean, DL, Renaissance (Detroit, Mich.) Starting all nine games for the Phoenix, Jabri Dean was constantly disrupting offenses at the line of scrimmage. He accounted for 15 tackles for loss and two sacks as a rare freshman in Renaissance’s lineup.
The Phoenix coaching staff expects Dean, the teammate of 2011 recruit Lawrence Thomas, to be another player that colleges play close attention to. He’s already 6-1 and 240 pounds. Expect both of those measurements to increase. By the time he’s a senior, he will have played four varsity seasons in the talent-laden Detroit Public League. There’s no reason that Dean won’t blossom into a target for schools within the state and beyond."
