The 2010 class was much deeper with players like Gholsten, Gardner, Bolden, Bullough, Hicks, Olaniyan, Mathis, Hill, Boisture and White. The 2011 class doesn't appear to have any Elite 11 QB prospects like the 2010 class did (3). The 2011 OL depth looks deeper than 2010. As usual, the depth @ DT is very thin.

MSU probably will have about 17 scholarships available for 2011.
The class breakdown might go something like this :
3 - OL
1 - TE
2 - WR
2 - RB
1 - DE
2 - DT
2 - LB
2 or 3 - CB
1 or 2 - S
Just went over the roster, and I count 17 SR's with 2 who aren't on scholarship. I counted 64 players on scholarship for next year, add in the 21 verbals for 2010, 17 scholarships for 2011 appears to be the number.

I think the class breakdown could be:

2- OT (See below on G)
1 - OG (Think some OT's will shift inside, making the need at OT greater)
1 - TE (Lose Celek and Linthicum in 2012, need one)
2 - WR (Could go as high as 3)
2 - RB (Must take 2 in this class)
2 - DT (Always a need)
2 - LB (Have to take 2 here)
4 - CB (Huge need, there will be only 2 on roster for 2011, plus Hicks from the 2010 class)
1 - S (Trenton, Jarius, and Denicos, plus the 2 from the 2010 class)

Of course assuming, nobody switches positions, and nobody from the current roster leaves the program. There will be movement, which will alter these numbers.

I would be very surprised if Hayes goes to a pro-style offense and it is not MSU. He has talked about the spread a lot. I could see him at NU like Tony Jones.

There are always transfers and whatnot. I feel like you always need to add about two scholarships to that, make it 19-20.

I like the predicition with Arnett, what's the reason you have him going to MSU? I think MSU is there with any other school.

Grant - father played for MSU, he's good friends with Johnny Adams, MSU offers early PT, he would definitely play early at MSU, probable top 100 player
Thomas - friends with Norman, Dixon and Hicks, MSU gives him the opportunity to play close to home in front of his friends and family, would play early at MSU, has a good relationship with the coaching staff, likes the MSU campus, etc., probable top 20 prospect
Arnett - friends and family could watch him play and visit him at MSU, would play early at MSU, has a good relationship with the coaching staff, has hung out with Boisture and other MSU players, probable top 100 player
Hayes - MSU was childhood favorite, would get early PT considering RB is a position of need, friends and family could watch him play and visit often at MSU, I think he has a family member at Iowa, also Tony Jones and the spread offense at NU, hopefully PT and location outweigh the spread and other factors that Iowa, NU and UM have, probable top 250 or better prospect
Zettel - UM leads slightly, MSU would have to make up some ground, this recruitment may last a while and that would give MSU a better opportunity with him, possibly top 250 prospect, low four star/high three star
Beyer - UM leads and will likely get a commitment soon, MSU has other prospects at this position that they are after, the midwest is loaded and they should be able to get one very good DE in this class, possible top 250 prospect

I think MSU has a great shot with Arnett. I would be worried with Okla., OSU, Fla., USC, Texas, and ND in his recruitment. Fortunately for MSU, these schools took a lot of WR's in the last two classes and he would get early PT at MSU. MSU is in good shape with most of these prospects, but they need to be able to close on these top prospects.

Two West side guys who weren't on my list to watch

- Parker Ehinger, OT, Rockford - 6'8 kid who I think will get some MAC offers soon
- Damon Knox, DE, Muskegon - 6'5, 255-lbs, good athlete.

If I'm correct, which I'm prolly not, the 2011 Rivals250 comes out today.

Just posting now cause I'll forget.

I think its just the 250 watchlist, not the actual rankings.

Just saw this, so happy.

If we landed Thomas, Arnett, Grant, and Hayes I would be very happy.

These are still being updated - so some of these aren't final just yet, but the ones at the top all are.

I heard a rumor that LT might commit as soon as this summer--is this true?

Lawrence will make a fairly early decision. He said late Spring was even a possibility, but I tend to think he'll take some summer visits. I'd be shocked if he didn't make a decision before the start of the season.

That is very very very good for us.

Gotta get the ball rolling.

The good news at this time seems to be that Thomas and Hayes have us at the top of their list and Arnett was really impressed when was the first HC to vist his home in Saginaw. Arnett has been to MSU several times and it appears he really likes everything about it and the FB program.

If we can get these young athletes to committ early on (before the season) this could be a great springboard to another very good class in 2011. I believe that we are very close to the talent level and depth to be a real top notch program and legit conf champs contender perhaps even this season.

Someone bring me down to earth!!! I'm starting to drink too much .

I don't know what our schedule is, but if we can get 8 wins I would guess another top 20 recruiting class, maybe higher with all this top end talent we're in on early. I would think that would set us up to be a consisten top 25 football team and finally make a legit run at a conference title in the near future.

I don't think we should settle for a class around 20-30, if we have a good season on the field why cant we bring in a top 15 class?

20-30 is high expectations given MSU football recently IMO. Top 15 is unrealistic, would be equivalent to bowling a 300 because we would have to hit on almost all of our plan A guys.

While class ratings are nice, being top 15 in the season ending polls will make things much easier.

Considering that half to 2/3 of the class is likely to commit before the season starts, the record should have little impact with more than half the class. It's still early but MSU is in a great position with many top prospects.

There are a lot of other prospects that are in Scouts top 150 that MSU is recruiting. If MSU was able to get the 4 prospects you listed above they would probably have a guaranteed top 25 class.

I would settle for any combination of 2 or 3 as long as Thomas is involved.
