Why in the world would Michigan take this kid. His offers are Stanford, Vandy, Army, Bowling Green, Eastern, Toledo, Indiana. and Louisville. Cinncy wouldn't even offer. Don't they already have a few CB and ATH they are turning to corners?

He was apparently very impressive at UM's camp.

He's the first CB of the class. Of the WR commits, only D.J Williamson has the skill-set to perhaps be a corner. I think UM might take up to three corners in this class. Avery, probably Cullen Christian and then one more.

im sure he had a fine camp. i just thought it was funny that the kid was committed to stanford before with all of the comments Harbaugh has said about michigan.
so if you are correct on the others that would put you at 17 commits and michigan will probably take 23-25. however i have noticed that last class michigan took 1 DT and 2 DE's and so far of those 15 commits for this class michigan has 0 DT's and 0 DE's. i also have to believe there are scholarships that are saved for guys like Prater and Henderson and a few others. it really makes you wonder sometimes what the game plan is especially if they short side themselves on defensive lineman in this class even if they are planning on running a base 3-4

So, UM fans were saying that not getting Hicks was "no big deal" and than they come back with Avery.
Now, he might end up better than Hicks, but no site, film, or evaluation says so so far.

It's not a base 3-4. It's a hybrid. They've taken two guys to fill the 4-3 weakside DE/3-4 OLB spot (Spinner/Quick) in Antonio Kinard and Ken Wilkins. They also took a guy who's being labeled at the same position but whom I ultimately expect as a Ryan Van Bergen DE-type in Jordan Paskorz.
I really want to see Jon Hankins get an offer. He's not in great shape, but that's nothing a redshirt year can't fix. I assume that the staff feels good about its chances with PA DT Sharrif Floyd and others. Michigan only graduates one DL, albeit an All-America candidate, but that means that 10 DL return in '10 (Will Campbell, Craig Roh, Anthony LaLota, Ryan Van Bergen, Steve Watson, Mike Martin, Vince Helmuth, Renaldo Sagesse, Greg Banks, Adam Patterson). The downside is that as of right now some of those haven't played at all and others haven't done anything. Still, it ties up scholly spots.

It's a thread about a UM recruit and someone asked a question about the recruit. I answered. Simmer down, champ. No one's holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read it.

There's a feature called ignore. I use it all the time on people I'd rather not see posts from.

Doesn't change the point made you can't play all the WR's in this class, and have done a terrible job addressing the needs on the interior lines. um may only have 5-7 offers left, and if you think RR is going to fill them all with interior lineman, you are mistaken.
Hybrids = Bandit
RR proved at WVA OL is not one of his calling cards, his scheme is more important, that is evidenced by your recruiting thus far. We will see if the athletes can overcome the poor line play.

ROTFLMAO!
Nice work, DickRod! He gets burned by Mylan Hicks and then goes after a kid with offers from a bunch of mediocre programs.
Just goes to show rules the state!

RR gets criticized for "offering anyone" then when he waits on Avery to get a good first-hand look at him at camp and offers him then, he's criticized for picking up on others' leftovers? Meh.
Michigan has a pretty big need at CB, from all accounts Avery looked good at camp, so I'm pretty excited about the signing. If U-M can get 2 (or 3) of the Mathis-Christian-Knight trio, this should be a really solid class secondary-wise.
And like I said in another thread, Hicks is definitely a great player - I would have loved to have him at Michigan and I'm sure the coaching staff wanted him badly too, so I'm certainly not taking anything away from MSU's big get there.

It's sad that the most reasonable post in this thread has to come from a Michigan fan.
