Man, he sure does hit the hole quickly. He also looks hard to tackle because he is so low to the ground.

I think MSU will still continue to recruit another RB in the 2010 class. I think Roderick Smith, Braylon Heard, Austin White, James White and Andre Givens will still be recruited by MSU, hoping to land one of them.
The RB position will be thinned out after this season with A. J. Jimmerson graduating and Glenn Winston possibly no longer on the team.
|
Any idea how many RB's the coaches would like to have on the roster? After the 2009 season it will look like this:
Sr. -
Jr. - Anderson, Leggett, (Winston?)
So. - Ray, Baker, Caper (assuming neither redshirt)
Fr. - Hill

I'm curious if we'd take another back too, because we are only losing one in the next two years.

Then we got into Hill's background. Chelsea, for those who don't know, is about 17 miles from Ann Arbor. Hill has cheered for Michigan and ignored MSU his entire life.

I think this kid has potential to be a great collage running back. A lot of programs are going to end up wishing they had offered him a scholarship.
Welcome to MSU Nick Hill

Hill has Rogers "esque" type size, speed, abilities, and high school numbers. Dantonio is just planning ahead for a future Rose Bowl showdown with USC. You see, he saw how Jaquizz Rodgers of Oregon State tore up the USC defense last year, so he figured why not get a similar type guy for MSU to do the same thing!! Now that's what I call good thinking!

Also, Rivals lists Rodgers as having only a 4.6 in the 40 (versus 4.41 for Hill). However, I know from workouts this spring at Oregon State that Quizz Rodgers averaged 4.45 with a best of 4.35. So, I wouldn't call the jumping and speed differences that great. Hills strength stats are impressive, but I don't know what Rodgers' are. Hill may have edge there too. Now, if Hill proves at MSU to have the moves Rodgers has at Oregon State, that would really be something!!

Hill is complete football player, I mean STUD!!! When Chelsea came to Adrian last year, while Adrian was ranked near the top in the state, he f***in tore it up!!! I couldn't believe the speed and quickness this kid had, he was running by everyone. Anyways, I was really glad too see MSU land this kid. Don't quite recall what his stats were, however he had several hundred yards with like 3-4 touchdowns. Great get for the Green & White. He wont disappoint anyone.

I agree! We should be concerned he ain't taller. I mean look at Barry Sanders. Oh, nevermind.

Hop on the train Nick and enjoy the ride.

I remember having to tackle Eric Allen during practices and scrimmages. If you could get to him at the line of scrimmage before he had space to maneuver, you had a shot at tackling him. In the open field, Eric was a nightmare to try and tackle. He could stop on a dime at full speed, cut or sidestep, and be back at full speed in 2 or 3 steps. He left me grabbing for air more than once, along with a lot of other guys. Eric played WR in the Canadian Football League (that league was pretty competitive back then) for several years with the Toronto Argonauts.
Hopefully, Nick Hill will provide Spartan Fans with thrilling plays similar to Eric Allen.

Nick Hill moved up to #8 (5.7 rating) all purpose back; 7 spots ahead of Austin White.

Looking at this picture 5'7" is a stretch. As long as he has opposing defenses in a I could care less how tall he is! I predict this kid becomes a fan favorite very quick.

I think he had 3 and maybe a 2 pt conversion? I am not sure about the conversion but I know he had 3 Td's.

4 TD's, 1 2-pt conversion and 150 yds are the correct stays from someone in attendance
However, what the stats don't show is this:
* Huron consistently put 8-9 men in the box limiting Nick. Only 2 runs greater than 10 yds (11, 12).
* Chelsea QB had a hard time passing missing Nick on several screen passes
* Nick fumbled twice (1 running, 1 punt return) - Chelsea was down most of the game and Nick was trying a little bit too hard to make a big play. Very unusual for Nick to fumble.
* Three of the touchdown runs were spectacular - carrying 3 guys from the 5 yd line, spin moves, taking hits, keeping his balance - Barry Sanders type stuff coming out of the crowd.
Expect some decent numbers this week versus Monroe but I do not expect him to play much more than a half if Chelsea starts winning by a large margin.
