Wasn't Haygood closer to 6'?
I think Nick Hill is 5'6 or 5'7. Hell, I'm 5'11 and was at the driving range next to Barry Sanders a few years back. Barry is 5'8 at the most (I would bet 5'7 if my life depended on it), and look how he turned out...

Typically would use "sleeper" to describe a guy not on anyone's radar. That's not the case here. Keshawn Martin wasn't even in any of the recruiting databases. Just don't want people getting confused and thinking that we picked up some unknown. Everyone knew about Nick Hill.

I love this commitment. Backs of this size can really excel at the collegiate level. Who was the RB from Kansas State a few years ago who is now playing (and doing very well) for the Chargers?
Anyways, a RB like this is absolutely PERFECT as a change of pace for the bigger guys like Baker and Caper. Short, shifty guys can be an absolute nightmere for a defense, especially in screens.
You've got to love how Dantonio is diversifying our offense, unlike DickRod who goes completely one-dimensional. It makes absolutely no sense to me that they didn't offer this guy.

I think its pretty simple, and I say this not trying to flame or anything- he just didn't like him that much. He had him at camp two years straight, from most accounts Hill was begging for an offer..and RR didn't offer and from what I've read wasn't going to anytime soon.
If I had to speculate, I'd guess that Hill not catching the ball out of the backfield had something to do with it- he probably likes White more because of his versatility.

He plays hard, runs hard, has speed, vision, instincts, everything you could want in a back. If he was 5'10 even, I think he'd be one of the top backs in the country. As it stands, I think he'll be a great one.

I think we all need to be called out because I take pride in MSU fans NOT being like UM fans. I can't stand the hypocricy with UM fans so I don't want to see it here. We rip Michigan for their small commitments, but then in this thread we are convincing ourselves that it can work. We cite guys like McGuffie, but then we talk about Barry Sanders in regards to Hill. I understand the fact that with Michigan it is more about having 87 kids under 5'10", but lets try to keep things under control with comparisons and what not. Can a shorter player be successful? Yes, and I hope Hill is. But lets not jump all around with defenses to smaller size. Lets just trust our coaches and look forward to seeing them right on Hill.

One guy who is primarily being recruited at KR with some special RB duties is far different from recruiting an entire team of under sized guys who are supposed to beat out bigger talent with their speed and agility.

Chelsea, MI, RB - Nick Hill has committed to MSU. Nick could become the dynamic punt and kick returner all in one package, MSU has been lacking since Devin Thomas went pro and Otis Wiley got injured last season.
I think MSU will still continue to recruit another RB in the 2010 class. I think Roderick Smith, Braylon Heard, Austin White, James White and Andre Givens will still be recruited by MSU, hoping to land one of them.
The RB position will be thinned out after this season with A. J. Jimmerson graduating and Glenn Winston possibly no longer on the team.
