Would be nice to get him, as Bates will need a replacement. Muma is already in place to take over for Swenson.

especially if a school like Bama offered already.
A good punter would be a huge plus for this class

Don't count out Kyle Selden (although he lacks the ability to do the unorthodox pendulum punt like Bates).

Has he given any indications as to what school, region or conference he is leaning towards? This is one of the top 5 kids I would like to land in this class.

He's got offers from Alabama, LSU, Northwestern, Purdue, and MSU. According to a recent article from a camp he went to he'll decide in a month or so.

I don't think we are going to get him.
He has said that he can play football anywhere, and he cares more about going to a school with a great aeronautical engineering program. He wants to go to UM because they have a really good program in that, however they aren't offering a full scholarship.
But from what I understand MSU doesn't really offer a program that he wants to go into. So I would imagine Purdue would sound like a great offer at that point.

I'm sorry but if I'm this kid, I would see my offer list, see that I'm the third rated punter on rivals, and I would go to a school that fits me best for football so I could go play in the NFL. Even if you just make it to the bigs isn't it 300,000 a year minimum salary.

punters and kickers never think like that. They use their leg to get a free education first, than worry about the league second.
Look at where the punters in the NFL come from - small schools or even rugby teams now. He is right to pick a school based on academics first b/c 98% of the time that is what punters will need to fall back on, even the highly rated ones out of high school

not to mention that the average age of a punter in the NFL has to be around 40. they NEVER retire

Hondo's site has a post about him:
: : » Spartan Nation Spoke with One of Country’s Best 2010 Punters, Talked MSU, Recruiting and More
Quote:
Sadler holds seven offers, including one from Michigan State. The rest of the list is impressive: LSU, Alabama, Air Force, Northwestern, Purdue and Arizona State.
About garnering more scholarship offers, Sadler says this: “I feel pretty good about where I’m at. Another school I’m hoping to get onboard is Florida. … Most of the schools that I would want to hear from are already onboard. I feel pretty good about where I’m at.”
|
There's more in the article, but no discussion about his interest in engineering.

Scout - "In Demand P Sadler Still Looking Hard at MSU" - $
For those that have access, there's a nice 4 minute video of Mike punting. Basically everything over 50 yards consistently with decent hangtime. They time and distance every kick.

Sadler getting close to decision
Matt Dorsey
SpartanMag.com
Mike Sadler of Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern High School is the top punting prospect to come out of Michigan in a decade. Mark Dantonio and the Spartans are hoping to keep the talented prospect in-state and have him as the heir apparent to Aaron Bates. SpartanMag.com has the latest on the recruitment of this strong legged prospect.

well, I think the kid would be wise to look at the history of great kickers that have passed through Spartan Stadium...Greg Montgomery and Craig Jarret come to mind. Then all the great placekickers that have come and gone as well. Great history here....he could add to that...

The only thing that may stand in our way is that he wants to specifically major in aeronautical engineering. I think that if he doesn't want to change from that then he may end up at Purdon't or Northwestern. However, if he wants to play at a decent stadium and have his parents watch him then I think he would pick us. Its all going to be about the major though I fear.

His parents can be in Evanston or West Lafayette is a matter of hours. That travel will not be a factor in his decision.

Sadler said that MSU is in his top 3 (wouldn't name his other 2 schools), & wants to make decision in next couple of weeks,,,,,per recent Hondo interview.
Listening to this kid, the academics side of college, as has been mentioned here multiple times, seems to be his top priority. Would love to get him, but if this is down to MSU, Purdue & NW,,,its going to be tough.

This is a big plus for Purdue if he is wedded to this major. On the other hand, this is a story of two programs headed in opposite directions. Purdue's program is falling, and will return to the bottom of the conference as during the pre-Tiller days. I don't think football is as time-consuming for kickers as the rest of the team, but if a player is putting in a ton of time in practice and film study, it sure is a big reward to play for a winner and experience the thrill of bowl games.
Purdue and Northwestern are both within driving distance for his parents, so no advantage to MSU. MSU's big selling point over PU and NW is competing for Big Ten Championships (getting a ring) and game day atmosphere (much larger stadium), and how the coaches handle the player (Danny Hope has a reputation). If it's purely academics, we're probably toast.

...but then he went on to mention Purdue and NW. My guess is those three.
