Off-topic Fantasy football vs. fatherhood

16fan's thread reminded me that during my fantasy football draft last Saturday, one of our league members tells us his 12 year old son's first football game was going on and he missed it for our draft. Then he gets a call an hour into the draft and his wife tells him his son just got knocked the f out while playing QB. The ambulance was on its way. Kid had a neck injury. Dude says "ok, call me and let me know what they say" And the draft continues....

Then his wife calls to say they are putting a C collar on his son, though he is conscious and seems to be okay, but they are loading him into the ambulance and taking him to the hospital. Again, dude just says ok, thanks for letting me know.

Then tells us a story how he told his son something like that would happen but that it would just get him used to football. Says he and his brother wrapped his kid up in catcher's gear one day and just starting chucking baseballs at him (est 65-70 mph). Was bragging about how tough his kid was and how one time it hit him square in the face mask and knocked him down. But then the kid got up like nothing happened and put his mask back on for more abuse.

WTF? Oh, and dude was in no hurry to leave the draft. His team was drafted at least an hour before he left (auction draft).

He's a f'n dork hick too. He was so pleased with himself about the baseball story. We all sort of listened in stunned silence.

As much as my husband enjoys his fantasy football and baseball leagues, I cannot even imagine him ever putting them before our kids...if one of them were injured or ill, he wouldn't even have to think twice about blowing off the fantasy league.

I feel sorry for that kid. And his wife too.
