I was told by some of the guys in my league that defensemen were the least important players on the team. So I don't know about your defenseman first strategy.

They rack up assists and powerplay points, so unless you're going to be stacked with 40 goal scorers, you might as well get 20 and 20 guys and defensemen who can rack up assists and power play points.

I have Aucoin, Foote, Charo, and and Medry. I think I will be ok.
Also, I'm curious to see what the new ice dimensions will do to goal scoring by defensemen. The blue line is an extra four feet away from the net. That will give goalies a bit more time to react to a slapshot from the line. I wouldn't be suprised if goal scoring by defenseman (especially on the powerplay) is down this year. However, the added space will increase the space for passing so I would expect that assists by defenseman will probably increase. All in all scoring by defenseman will probably equal out or be slightly increased by the new rules, but I think the assists to goals ratio will increase among defenseman.

There are a couple of guys bitching about the points system. There was another guy (along with myself) that drafted some players that could generate a lot of +/-, PIM, PP. In terms of points, a major penalty would be equivalent to a goal.

I don't see why points are awarded for putting your team in a penalty kill situation. I do think that points should be awarded for the player that wins a fight though. If that were the case, Probie would have been the MAN for fantasy hockey.

We'll find out soon enough. It is going to be so hard to tell how the new NHL is going to play out. For example how good is Brodeur REALLY going to be now that he has lost both Scott Stevens and Scott Neidermeyer in front of him on defense AND the Devils won't be able to trap like they use to? How will teams with a lot of speed like the Wild play now that the ice is going to open up more due to the crackdown on obstruction? How will some of the older goalies who might have lost some of their reflexes and flexibility respond to the smaller goalie equipment? How will the layoff effect older players? How many more breakaways and odd man rushes will occur because of the elimination of the two line pass rule? How will the supposed parity in the league play out now that almost EVERYBODY seems to have a shot at the playoffs? There are so many new factors that it will take a while for the league to sort itself out and some trends start to establish themselves. heck, we might be halfway to the allstar break before we know what the heck we are even looking at.

I think I did okay too...but I'm kicking myself for some of my later round picks. Like I went braindead or something.

Yep. He sure is. I'm taking a chance on him. We'll see!

I have a hard time deciding in the middle of my draft...once I have at least one of every position, I turn into a scatter brain.

My league did an auto draft so before hand I set my draft board and it automatically selected the highest available pick on my board. I wish I could have made my own draft, but the league manager wanted to do it this way.
