Fantasy Football advice

When setting up my fantasy league... how should i set up the rosters? This will be a 12 person league. Right now i'm thinking about starting:

1 qb
2 rb
3 wr
1 te
1 k
1 def

with 5 or 6 reserve players.

What do you think? do i need more roster spots for reserves?

Also, what web site do you recommend for running my league? two years ago i used cbssports line and last year i used nfl.com. I believe both of these sites are now charging to use them. I would imagine yahoo is still free, but i'm not a fan. any other suggestions?

thanks

I use yahoo, its pretty good, IMO. That starting lineup is pretty standard. I think yahoo uses that as sort of a default.

Just use Yahoo and their default settings for players and points. You'll be fine. The only thing is that since you have 12 players, you may want to limit the bench to say 4. That would mean 13 players per team. You will be drafting 156 at that point. The selection gets a little thin after that.

We use

1 QB
2 RB
3WR
1 RB/WR flex
1 TE
1K
1 Team DEF

I like the flex because you can play a "wild" card every week.... I'm jumpin' on the Duckett bandwagon as my 3rd RB!!!

If you want to make the game more interesting, don't allow the 5-6 players on reserve. Limit teams to 2 reserves. This forces people to have to drop and add players when bye weeks approach and injuries occur. It causes a lot more transactions with more interesting players.

We go with 15 man rosters:

Start:
1-QB
2-RB
2-WR
1-Extra (RB or WR)
1-TE
1-K
1-Def

Seems to work rather well...we charge for 2$ adds so you need to have some decent backups on your roster to avoid big transaction costs, however they do build the pot nicely. We may ad the option to get rid of TE and use WR there instead....damn TE's only get a few points anyhow.

A tip when drafting: draft Tony Gonzalez early in the third round. Yes it is high for a TE but the dropoff for TE's is great and the difference between third round WR's and RB's isn't.

How can you even think about fantasy football when Wendy's has no Goddamn pepper???

PS- we start 1 qb, 2 rb, 3 wr/te, 1k, 1defense. CBS Sportsline is a lot of damn money, but it's the best site out there. With a twelve team league, the financial hit isn't bad.

I run a 12 team with the following rather popular starting lineup:

1 QB
2 RB
2 WR
1 RB or WR
1 TE
1 K
1 Def/ST

That's 9 starters 7/ bench and we draft 16 rounds--yes it gets thin, but makes it interesting.

Agree on the Gonzo comment

first, a wendy's update... they now have restocked the pepper. no need to worry any more.

second, i don't like having a "flex" position.

third, i always take running backs with my first two picks, and by the third i need a wr. not willing to take a te so early. i'm usually happy with someone like chamberlain or rikkes (sp?) at te. they never win or lose a game for you, but rb depth is the key to winning!

Actually, depending on your league's settings - Todd Heap put up better fantasy numbers last year.

Really the only three TE's there are:

Gonzalez
Heap
Shockey

If Randy McMichael would have stayed healthy last year he would be in that group. I had the #2 TE in the league until he got hurt.
