keeper league trade advice

ok...i have the #1 pick in our draft (serpentine). there are 12 teams and each one has 1 keeper. here are the players off the board.

Shaun Alexander
Steven Jackson
Carson Palmer
Willis McGahee
Rudi Johnson
Joseph Addai
Larry Johnson
Edgerrin James
LaDainian Tomlinson
Travis Henry
Reggie Bush
Peyton Manning

I unofficially offered a trade for my 1st (1), and 2nd(24) to the guy with SJ for his 1st(8),2nd(17),4th(41).

is this a good trade offer? yeah he would pick up willie parker, frank gore, or brian westbrook.

i don't like having to wait till the end of the 2nd round to take my 2nd pick. do you think i should just keep my picks the way they are?

depending on your scoring you should keep it and take Gore. Target the best QB and WR on the way back and you are good to go. If Alexander is your keeper you are going to need to replace him possibly as early as next year. Gore would do that for you.

edge is my keeper this year. i inherited a crappy team last year and got stuck with edge and hasselbeck as my keepers.

it dawned on me that i could take gore. i should have traded my 4th round pick for him before we finalized things, but the guy who had him wouldn't do it. his keeper is LT.

I think you should stick with what you have, worm - break it down like this:

1st: Down from #1 to #8 (give up Gore, and get who??? Think Ronnie Brown or Caddy)
2nd: You move up 7 spots, but who's left? After the keepers and early picks, you're selecting from a large pool or WR2s or RB3s. You may be able to get the same guy you're targeting at 17 at #24 anyway.
4th: It's nice to get this additional pick, put it's actually more like a 5th rounder, anyway - same deal as moving up in the 2nd round.

Since you have an OK RB2 in Edge, I think you have to be sure to get a guaranteed RB1 with Gore. If you trade back, you'll basically have no studs and only "upside" guys. How does a core of Hasselbeck/Edge/Portis grab ya...?

you have your work cut out for you. If you are stuck with Edge then you really have to stand pat. You need Gore just for something to build around next year.

all the really good WRs were taken in the 1st and 2nd round. since it was serpentine i had to wait till till #24 and #25. i'm hoping one of the rookies (read meachem) steps up big time. in this league running backs are king. having 12 teams makes getting a lot of studs difficult.

my biggest fault was not trading my 4th round pick for gore before the draft. then i could have had willie parker with the #1 or even picked up steve smith. 20/20 hindsight.

it's all a crapshoot anyway.

hey vin...remember this was a keeper league. the top 12 guys were already off the board before the draft started.

Just messin' with you worm - your team looks OK, especially having been inherited.

FYI - I just sent you and the rest of the league an email that I need you to look at ASAP re: league rules. I don't know if the email address you're using is one you check often or not, but get back to me by Tuesday.
