First, Josh Betts was released by the Colts, backup QB, third string behind Sorgi.
If you are dropping Ladell Betts, you can pick up a risky running back like Portis for what might be a good trade IF Portis is healthy which is unknown right now. Betts came on very strong at the end of the season last year. It really depends on if you are strong at RB already and can afford to give up on Bettis to take a risk on Portis. If you are strong, then make the trade. Betts has some value later if packaged possible with a receiver to pick up a stronger running back if you can wait.
Bettis will split time with Portis anyway this season and neither may have a strong year due to that.
