Need help--trade offer for Maglio
I'm being stupid and playing fantasy baseball with my heart and not my head. What do you guys think about these two offers:
Me
2B - Brandon Phillips
Him
OF - Mags
He countered with this (to really rip me off)
Me
2B - Brandon Phillips
SS - Troy Tulowiski
Him
OF - Mags
SS - Rafeal Furcal
What do you guys think? I have Juan Pierre and Granderson on my team, so I should be okay with SB's which is what I would be giving up in B. Phillips.

What's your roster look like? If you have to replace Phillips with some below average 2nd baseman, then it's a definant no on the trade. I wouldn't be thrilled about giving up a top 3 2nd baseman and a pretty good shortstop for a very good outfielder and an aging shortstop with recent injury problems. You also have to think that Maggs isn't going to hit .360 again this year.

Thanks, that's pretty much where I am coming from.
I don't like the SS part of the deal. I could live with the loss at 2B although it would probebly be a bad idea now that I really stop and think about it. I had a piss-poor team last year and I don't want to go through that again. I trhk I have a decent squad this year:

Dumb trade to start with. You're giving up the best or second best 2b (which you need to overvalue the stats for because of scarcity at the postion) for a bottom of the top 10 outfielder (which you have to undervalue the stats for because of an abundance of good players at the position and the ability to start multiple OFs). First off, you can't assume you'll be getting Magglio 07, which will be his peak year, secondly Phillips has not reached his potential yet AND he's batting clean up this year. If I had Mags on my team, I would have jumped all over this trade. He's giving you the opportunity to rethink this by trying to shaft you even worse.

Why do you have 9 SP?
You also have too many Tiger position players, which is another reason the trade is stinky...

I didn't draft the team, I had a friend draft it because I was out of town for a funeral.
Personally, I like having a lot of starting pitchers, especially early in the season. Your position players are everyday guys for the most part but you can rotate in and out your SP in order to pad wins and Ks. Once you get a feel for your staff you can make moves to strengthen your offense.
I knew taht it was a bad trade going in, I just needed some sense talked into me.

Depends on your inning limits, but the cold supposedly helps pitchers more than hitters early on. I think there are a lot more good pitchers out there that will be available on the ww than hitters. You do have a couple nice sleepers in Hamilton and Hermida though.
Not to butt in, but to offer a couple suggestions if this were my team , I'd try to get a decent 1B backup (I have Gonzalez on my team too), I'd get rid of Juan Pierre (he's on my team too! Yuck) for a more balanced player, and upgrade catcher. Frank Thomas is worthless at this stage of his career. Tulowitzki, Phillips, and Cabrera would be untouchable. I also wouldn't carry nearly that many SPs, but don't know your inning limits and number of teams in your league.

Here's my team. Just traded Polanco for Uggla (Pedroia is Polanco part 2). Selling Soto, Pierre, Byrnes and Michael Young (targeting Tulowitzki, another power hitting OF, and closers). Overvalued average, steals, and runs in my draft....but it leaves me some bargaining room. Need more power to compete.

Thanks for the tips, I really don't know Fantasy Baseball that well even though this is my 5 year and at least 12th team. I just throw something together each year and hope it works out until Football season starts. I have never take the time to really learn the ins and outs.
You and I are on the same wavelength, I already backed up at 1B with the Billy kid from K.C. Granderson is on the DL so it didn't cost me anything to add him. There are a couple of guys with 2 solid 1B on their roster that should be ready to deal later in the season (they get to use both because we have a Utility position).
I'm with you on Thomas, he was my Mr. Irrelevant and I took a flyer on him. What's wrong with Pierre though? I love having a dominant SB guy on the team, it's a 5x5 league and it's a good feeling to know that I have one catagory on lock down. I like to try to do the same thing with closers as the year goes on. In additon, he should bat in the .290s and score close to 100 runs. I have enough power at other posiotns to make up for the lack of HRs and RBIs.
It's a 12 man league with no inning limit, I can have a team of all pitchers if I wanted. My strategy is to have a servicable to good guy at every offensive position then try to put out as many starters as I can every night.

For what it's worth--as a Marlins fan--I love Uggla.

Pierre is going to be splitting time in the OF in LA with the addition of Andruw Jones. Pierre is going to platoon with Kemp and Either, so cut his runs and steals totals by 30-50% for the year. He'll also be coming off the bench usually as a pinch hitter/defensive replacement, so it will be hard to tell when to start him. He only contributes to these two categories, so your (and mine) RBI and HR categories will suffer to give him a slot.

Thansk, I didn't know he wasn't going to be a full time guy.
