Biggest fluke of the season so far?

I don't think we can posts polls in this thread, but who is the biggest fluke so far? We'll start with the good...stats through May 12th. Feel free to add anyone else you think belongs on this list

  • Lance Berkman (Batting .392, 13 HR, 38 RBIS)
  • Chipper Jones (Batting .406)
  • Josh Hamilton (42 RBIs )
  • Cliff Lee (6 wins, .67 ERA & WHIP)
  • Brandon Webb (8 Wins, 2.41 ERA)
  • Mariano Rivera (10 Saves, 0.00 ERA)

I've gotta go with Berkman for the batters and Cliff Lee for the pitchers. Berkman is good, but not this good and Cliff Lee came out of nowhere.

i would say that none of those are really a fluke. Berkman and Jones have always been good hitters, we knew Hamilton had plenty of talent, and Webb and Rivera are dominant pitchers.

Lee does have an 18 win season to his credit, so it's not like he's never been any good. Obviously I wasn't expecting .67, but he's not just some 4 A pitcher.

Here's mine:
Emil Brown (33 RBIs, #4 in baseball)
Ryan Ludwick (8 HR, 1.131 OPS)

C.C. Sabathia and Justin Verlander are having more flukey seasons thus far than Lee and Webb I'd say.

We're starting with "good" flukes.

Cliff Lee has to be the answer for pitchers. He was terrible for the past two seasons. For the hitter, I'd go with Mike Napoli (on pace for a 30 home run season as a part-time catcher) or Carlos Quentin (leading AL in homeruns, and OPS)

Quentin was a major prospect for the DBacks and played with a hurt shoulder last year. I wouldn't really call him a fluke because he has the potential and skills to be a 30 HR guy with a decent (.280/.290) average.

I agree on MIke Napoli. He is playing beyond himself a little bit right now.

Cliff Lee is tough to call a "fluke" for me. Crazy, insane hot streak? Yes. Last year he was injured for most of the year and did pitch poorly when he was healthy. The year before wasn't horrible, just mediocre. In 2005 he pitched very well. Maybe I'm just/have been optimistic on the guy because I drafted him in my $ league for $1.

A once proud member of the Toledo Mud Hens!

But aside from that fact, I agree on both of these guys.
