Football tOfficial Counting Down To Fantasy Football 2008 Thread

Mini-camps.

Running backs being released.

WRs holding out.

O-lines getting beefed up.

Draft picks settling in.

Tight end situations getting dramatic.

I know it's only Father's Day, but I'm already getting damn excited for fantasy. So what say tRCMB? Who are yor sleepers? Who are your busts? Who's going to emerge this year?

Keeper leagues, seasonal leagues, whatever! Discuss.

Whoa. Sorry mods, I didn't even know this forum existed! It's like I was thrown through my living room wall to find an entirely new wing to my house! Definitely looking forward to browing through this board.

Anyway, the two most interesting situations in my keeper league team are the following:

1. I have Selvin Young. Travis Henry was relaeased. It looks like Young will have the starting role over Pittman and Hall, but Shanahan has openly questioned his ability to carry the ball 20 times in a game.

2. I picked up Kevin Boss during the playoffs this past season. I also have Jeremy Shockey. We all now how Shockey's been acting lately. What's going to happen there!?

I'm in a keeper league too, and also have Selvin Young. The way ours is set up, you can only keep 3 players, and it will cost you a pick 1 round lower than where the player was drafted. So keeping Young for a 17th rounder (I got him as a FA) is pretty much a no-brainer...that being said, I wouldn't want to commit a high pick on him because of the "Shanahan factor." Gotta love the upside, though...

On the Boss/Shockey issue, unless this is a Dynasty league, I wouldn't consider keeping either player over an alternate RB or WR. They are one of a large group of TEs that won't likely be difference-makers.

Our keeper leagues is WAAAAY different from anyone else's. Most are similar to yours. In ours, we keep FIFTEEN players, and have a three-round entry draft (rookies and free agents) before every season. THEN we have to cut back down to fifteen before the first round of waiver adds/drops, which is the last step before week 1.

In any case, back to the matter at hand: (I hope you're sitting, my team is terrible.) My RBs are Young, Deuce, Darius Walker, Ron Dayne, Laddell Betts, and Pierre Thomas. So yeah... Young's staying.

I think my best situation in the TE category will be if Shockey loses his mind and gets released or refuses to play and Kevin Boss plays as consistent as he did during the playoffs. I'll argue that he's a top-6 TE in that scenario. Watch out: The Giants just won a Suberbowl, and Eli has become a field general.

Wow...just...wow...

If we were sitting in the same room while you described that roster to me, I'd start looking around for a hidden camera...

I have 1 no-brainer to keep QB-Derek Anderson as a FA . Beyond that have a lot of wait and sees - Ricky Williams, Kevin Jones (last I heard the Bears were looking at him, that would be great), Earnest Graham (will Caddy step in and get his job back after the job Graham did last year?).

I need to review my roster, I had Roy Williams and Gonzo but I think they were drafted to high for any sane man to keep - but I might!

You're in the same boat I'm in...a handful of RBs with upside, but who knows which ones break through? Just need to watch the preseason closely and hopefully the top keepers will become clearer...

Be careful about DA. I know that they picked up Donte Stallworth, but their schedule last year was a joke. Down the stretch when they played tougher teams his performance was mediocre at best. ALSO, look who's waiting for him to mess up... there's nothing to say that Brady Quinn can't come in and take DA's job after a few off games.

Ricky Willams is DONE. Earnest Graham is old, but a good #2 running back FOR NOW. Kevin Jones is a valid wait-and-see, but we have no idea where he'll end up.

So who should I draft first in our entry draft? Jonathon Stewart, Matt Forte, or Rashard Mendenhall?

I would go with Forte if the Bears don't pick up another solid RB.

Something must be seriously wrong with shaun alexander for no team to grab him yet, the Lions Bear and Packers could take him and he'd be their best back from day 1.

I dunno, let's talk about this again after Kevin Smith gets a few dozen carries... Definitely think he might be a huge sleeper.

And right now I'll personaly take Ryan Grant over Shaun Alexander.

Hey 26.2...wouldn't this be sweet?

Kevin Jones looking at Bucs?

Kevin Jones is reportedly considering signing with the Bucs, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

The marginalization of Earnest Graham continues. Jones hasn't been linked to Tampa before and they aren't one of the six known teams to witness a workout this offseason, but his style would certainly fit the team. Perhaps this is Jones being smart and seeing a situation where he could rehab his value. It's uncertain if they've offered a contract. Jun. 30 - 4:44 pm et

I checked my team from last season and I may be going with Jamal Lewis and Greg Jennings. I like Jennings but w/out Favre I see his numbers dropping dramatically. Even if Favre comes back I think he maxed out his TD numbers last season. But he still may be worth a 9th rd selection.

At one time or another I think I have given serious thought to everyone of my 16 possible selections.

Yahoo's fine, but it isn't 100% "free" - if you want the real-time scoring, you've got to buy the upgrade package (which includes their draft kit) for $120. That's only $10/team, so it really isn't bad. If you can live without real-time scoring, then yes, it's free.

Site does everything you need it to. I've used ESPN, Yahoo, CBSSportsline, Fox Sports and Fanball in the past...I think they're all pretty similar. I like the graphics on the Yahoo scoring the best, so I guess that's the only real preference I have...

You live without real time scoring? You must be a fantasy loser. Its the key to picking up the mid season studs at half time of a game. Ryan Grant is all of a sudden a consensus top 10 pick. You wait till Tuesday morning to pick him up and he is gone.

Signed with the Bears this week.

According to FoxSports he is third on their depth chart but that doesn't mean a thing. Come regular season if he is healthy he will be playing at least some. I know he has Peterson beat and I haven't seen Forte but I guessing Jones will beat him out too.

I think Jones could be the #1 but the real question is - is the Bears #1 back worth anything. I had the Bears #1 WR one year and he was complete worthless for fantasy points.

Ern...FYI - you won't be able to do that in our league this year. We're changing the settings to lock our waiver activity from Sun-Tues...

Where is the vote on this matter commish? It seems childish and petty for people to set their alarm clocks as soon as the Tuesday morning window opens up which is something I will do.

First, we will be voting on this, as well as all the settings. There were some people complaining last year that they didn't like open waivers during the games because they weren't near their computers. For me it was no biggie, because I had a PDA. But I can see both sides, so I'm open to going with the majority on this.

Second, we can make the settings so the waiver pickups will be based on waiver priority (several different options). Trust me, I won't support just rewarding the first person to get to their computers in the mornings (remember, I live out West).

We're all going to have the opportunity to debate the settings prior to the draft...
