uhh...no, he is not turning into a top 20 player....guaranteed. Izzo was "in there" first, and then cooled, and I would not say anyone from WWR is "in love" with MSU. There was definitely a connection made with Chris Allen and that AAU squad, but he was an anomaly. Lastly, Izzo recruits mostly close to home for numerous reasons. Allen fell in his lap with Allen's family living in Lansing and the kid growing up loving MSU.
I am by no means a recruiting guru, or think that Izzo is untouchable, but you should really know what you are talking about before you make such presumptuous and negative statements.

Exactly. Justin Young the georgia rivals guru said about 6 months ago that EVERYBODY had cooled on Howell. Yes he has gotten better since then but obviously not enough. We have a lot of players on the roster like Howell already. Wilson is not similar to Howell at all. Wilson can hit an outside shot consistantly.

How many times do I have to spell it out, Howell had been playing with a pinched nerve in his back for quite some time. This greatly affected his "lack of athleticism". Well guess what he is healthy now, and by every account is playing like a beast. He has consistently been mentioned as one of the best players on the AAU circuit the last couple of events. Here are a few quotes,
"Richard Howell has been one of the most consistent players for the Worldwide Renegades Orange team this AAU season. According to numerous eyes in the gym, he was outstanding on Saturday morning and was the toughest player on the floor to defend."
and another
"When it comes to great hands and on point passing Howell was the best forward in the tournament his weekend in those two categories. His skill set has been on display all spring long and he was finally rewarded with"
I suspect with a few more performances like these, he will be VERY highly rated.
And maybe "in love" with MSU is a little much, but how does one explain Howell, Stewart, and supersoph Phil Taylor all seriously looking at State, as well as already landing Allen from the Renegades.

I do know what I am talking about. And where am I negative? I simply said I hope Izzo can still get in on him because of my well founded belief that Howell is blowing up.And how do you explain Taylor, Stewart and Howell all looking at a school 1000 miles away? The Georgia connection is hardly an anomaly.
And if you know so much, where will Howell end up in the rankings? I'll bet he is alot higher than you think, sir.

In 2009 when Howell is set to arrive, who are the " a lot of players" that MSU will have on the roster that are like Howell? Green is the only player IMO who's similar and Howell is more mobile than Green and in turn is more capable of playing the SF position. In fact, MSU will be LACKING players who play like Howell and have Howell's size. Outside of a less developed jumper and a more developed handle, Howell is relatively similar to Morgan and MSU could definitely use that kind of player in '09 and '10.

Just because a guy (or three) is/are looking at a school does not mean there is a WWR or Georgia pipeline.
I would say Howell will end up as a 45-65 range player. Top 20 means five star, and that is not going to happen. However, that is just my opinion. I don't even know if that is necessarily a dig on Howell...I mean, Riley has been a five star for a couple years and by all accounts he is a huge disappointment, but has a huge up-side. In other words, the recruiting sites like to give stars out on potential, and I just don't think an undersized PF with Howell's skills is considered a big potential guy.
Again, Allen came to MSU because of family in E. Lansing. Notice that every time Izzo talked about Allen, Izzo kept pointing out how it was not a normal thing that they recruited Atlanta, and that Allen fell into their laps. No where have I seen anything about Izzo and company recruiting Atlanta hard now that they have Allen.
Lastly, I would say you were quite negative when you said that Izzo not recruiting the Atlanta area was "a joke". I would say he not recruiting Detroit, Cleavland, Chicago, Milwaukee might be a bit problematic, but not Atlanta

If those kids are seriously interested in MSU, why haven't they visited? Or called the coaching staff?

I'd imagine distance, possibly costs, schedule (as soon as state finals ended AAU season started) and maybe lack of contact by MSU.
As far as calling the coaching staff, do you have the phone records that show they haven't? I haven't the slightest idea who has called the staff or vice versa. I read the sites, talk to people, see a few games, and look for guys I'd like to see at State. And Howell is a guy I'd like at State.
Do you think the recruiting sites just make up lists of schools for the player? No they call, text, email the kids to find out who they like. MSU was a leader for Howell and mentioned prominently for a long time. So yes, I'd say they are interested in State.

I believe Ari Stewart mentioned that he hadn't talked to any of the MSU coaches in months...if he was really interested, why didn't he call them? Kids usually initiate contact, they call coaches all the time. Be careful with information from recruiting sites, especially recruit interviews. Kids know who they are talking to. My personal opinion is that he isn't interested in MSU.
Richard Howell...not sure what is going on. If the coaching staff liked him and he was sincerely interested, why wouldn't they recruit him? It is possible that he isn't a good fit for the program...there is always more going on than any recruiting site will/can tell you.
rcd- are you located in Georgia?

All this positive talk about Howell is why I find it so hard to believe that Izzo is putting all his eggs for a three-man 09 class in Jamil Wilson and March 2009. Sure, you could save the fourth scholarship for 2010 but you'd have to be confident that the player who receives that scholarship will be a better fit/prospect than someone you could get enrolled a year earlier, such as Howell in particular or even Riley with a redshirt.
Secondly, if Wilson ultimately turns MSU down (say in February), are there really four players in '10 all of whom are a better use of a scholarship than Howell?
Obviously, part of recruiting is risk but I'd hate to see this end badly with no Wilson and no Howell.

I don't know about "better use" but a Mcalam, Appling, Zeigler, Horford (or someone else) isn't out of the question. My personal guess is that if Howell (or some other top 50) wants to commit and fits needs that the coaching staff sees then they will take them. If Wilson comes on board 03/09 you don't turn him down and you take 4 and 2. If he doesn't you go 3 and 3. Or the possiblity of 4 and 3 if someone leaves early. The reality is that Izzo knows needs, the kids, and leaving early possiblity better than any of us and I'm sure he is recruiting in accordance with that knowledge.

Seriously. I can't believe all the Izzo bashing in this thread. He has his reasons for not pressing with Howell and Sewert. Deal with it.

This will most likely be the case as it's very unlikely that Kalin's around for his senior year. If he's gone, you can take 4 & 3 or 3 & 4 and the McCallum/Appling/Ziegler class would be highly desireable as you'd have two kids capable of playing PG (who would also be great in the same backcourt) being that Lucious will be the only PG on the roster, plus you need a stud wing being that we won't have taken one in the last two classes.

What Izzo bashing? I've read this whole thread and haven't seen any. This is a message board where EVERYONE'S opinion is welcome...................or are there rules as to what opinion can and can not be printed?
Questioning Izzo because what he is doing does't seem to fit what your opinion is isn't bashing him. I know some think that Izzo is God but the truth is that he is human and has the same flaws and imperfections that the rest of us have.
There is no Izzo bashing going on in this thread at all.

Weekend after weekend, the 6-foot-7 forward just produces. His steady play was the calming force for Worldwide all weekend long. He limited his mistakes and scored the ways he was comfortable. Nothing seemed too forced and his confidence is at an all-time high after recovering from a back injury that has slowed him for the last year or so.
Howell's passing skills were on display as he found his slashing teammates for scores and kicking it back out to the guards to find better shots. His hands caught every tough pass and corralled every tough rebound.
He was steady all season long at Wheeler High School in metro Atlanta and has been equally steady so far in the grassroots season.

Actually, my post wasn't intended to question Izzo at all. If anything, I was questioning the board's general assumption of what Izzo is doing. Once Nix committed, I asked "what now?" The popular response seemed to be "We recruit Wilson hard and backburner the other recruits to save a scholarship for '10."
I don't know what Tom Izzo is up to; I'm sure he'll do fine by MSU. I'm just not convinced that we won't have another strong push on someone before Wilson commits in March 2009.
In short, I'm sure Izzo knows what he's doing, but I'm not sure the board knows what Izzo is doing.
Edit:
And, yeah, I think what Stubarino says makes perfect sense.

Wait...you want MORE size in the backcourt....I thought you wanted more Spud Webb/Earl Boykins type players....and not just for the backcourt, but for our frontcourt also.

You told me nothing! I said he was turning into a top 20 player. And will stand by that assessment. You think the pre AAU season ranking mean anything? Look at where he is ranked post summer.
Listen, I know more about this kid than almost everyone. I told everyone about the problems he had with his back months ago. I want State to recruit him because I believe he will be a great player. I hope whomever you want TI to recruit comes in and tears it up. But for the love of god, get the heck off my jock for wanting a guy currently ranked significantly ahead of our verbals.
