Stop worrying about Howell. He is not coming to State. I gotta believe that it is Wilson or bust for 09, unless a new name emerges over the summer. That name will not be Howell though.

Not eveyone stops following a kid's recruitment when MSU is moved out of the picture.

I am posting because I am trying to tell the guy who was so excited about a new scout update that it is not anything to be excited about. I have access..I read it...it is the same song and dance. The kid has not heard from Izzo in MONTHS. Now, I don't know the kid personally, and I wish all the luck to him, but you might as well not worry about him.

Yes, because I am sure DaHorn Spartan and peter465 want to know how hard Marquette and Oregon are pushing Howell.

OK 1st of all..... I dont really care much about the kid as from what I've read on this post and rivals... some people think he is hella-sweet, some think he is gonna continue in a downward spiral.

The only reason I asked for the Scout update is that I actually enjoy it when I hear that some of the nation's top recruits that are NOT from the Midwest are considering MSU.

I wasn't "so excited about a new scout update" for your information.

Personally - I dont even want Howell.... i'd rather have Noel Johnson as our 2nd option, obviously behind option 1 - Jamil Wilson.

relax.

How do you know what they want?

Peter just said that he's not on the Howell to MSU bandwagon. Some people just like to bump threads with new information when they run across it. eg. DeShonte Riley hasn't been coming to MSU for a long time but his thread continued until his commitment to G'Town. Chill and relax. Just because there's an active thread about a recruit, it doesn't mean that folks are convinced that he's a MSU target. It just means that there's an ongoing interest in where that player ends up.

Not surprising, Richard Howell also played well for the Worldwide Renegades. All the 6-foot-8 forward does these days is produce, produce, produce. The rising senior from Wheeler High School in Marietta scored 14 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds.

He's one of the most consistent post presences in the Southeast and hasn't changed that tune all year long. Oregon, Marquette, Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn, Memphis, Georgetown, NC State and James Madison are in contention for his services, Howell says.
we can probably cross him off the list too

Why would we want a guy like this?

All he does is "produce, produce, produce."

But you know what, everyone has cooled on him. Right Jersey? Well everyone except Memphis, Texas, GTown, Tennessee.

The more times TI takes Josephs, Waltons, Herzogs, Dahlmans, and Iboks and passes on a kid like this who we could have had, makes me realize just how valuable Mateen was to TI's success. Because you are going to have start to question our programs talent evaluation.

Wow.

Not even worthy of a lengthy response.

Wow, you are really something....first of all, the kid is not going to any of those places. Just because a kid is rattling off schools, does not mean he is getting an offer. Second of all, I like how you have given up on Herzog, and Dahlman, while also throwing a 3 year Co-Captain in Walton under the bus. Lastly, lets see, I am pretty sure Izzo EVALUATED, and landed, Mo Pete, Mateen, Granger, Hutson, Randolph, Richardson, Anderson, Shannon Brown, Ager, Paul Davis, Kalin Lucas, Morgan, Roe, Summers, Allen, Suton, etc....

Every program has its misses, and considering our programs' success, I would say Izzo has had an amazingly few of them.

We are no longer on Howell, and we are focusing on Wilson. Why you can't get over this, I don't know.

The latest review on Howell,

It almost wasn't fair what 6'8 BF Richard Howell of Marietta (GA) Wheeler did to a 16U team that was pressed into service when the original opponent failed to show. Playing for Worldwide Renegades Orange, Howell was just too big and strong inside to be stopped as he repeatedly posted up, spun baseline and scored. To show his versatility, he knocked down a three, had a nice dribble-drive going left and made several good passes to cutters from his low block position. Howell also gets up and down the floor very fast and makes good passes at a fast pace, something rare in a big guy. When on the receiving of the break, Howell generally crushes the rim with dunks.

and more on Howell from this weeks top performers,

The 6-foot-7 big man has been one of the most consistent producers in the class of 2009 to date. No surprise here, he produced once again at the Peach State event. All Howell does is score between 12 to 17 points a game on a loaded roster, crash the boards and make better passes than most guards. If he can find a college with scorers around him, Howell's career should be equally productive.

It's just odd. So many keep talking about Howell dropping in the minds of coaches and Izzo and yet, everything I read about him says exactly the opposite. I just don't get it.

Frankly, if he and Wilson wanted to come, I'd take them both but I'll leave that decision to the experts............................Izzo and staff.

RCD must be related to this kid. It's obvious his game does not fit what Izzo is looking for.

A big man that crashes the boards and passes like a guard? Not what Izzo is looking for? Wow, what is he looking for?

RCD- Kids that are seriously interested in a school usually keep in contact with the coaching staff. Kids initiate MOST of the contact (because rules are so strict). The fact that he said he hadn't talked to the coaching staff in awhile tells me that BOTH sides lost interest.

You seem to know a lot about him...why didn't he do anything about it? Why didn't he call the coaching staff? Why didn't he set up a visit? Coaches aren't the only ones involved in the recruiting process.

All I am doing is keeping updates for how the kid is playing and what people are writing about him. Nothing more.

I am not privy to who he calls, visits, etc or who Izzo wants to visit, etc. But Howell has had an interest in State, if not now, then for sure in the past. Chris Allen is his good friend. And now that he is healthy, he is tearing it up. So yes, I want him to go to State. I think he would help our team alot. I think he is on his way to being ranked in the top 20 for his class.

Oregon, Marquette, Oklahoma State, and NC State...These are the powerhouses that Howell himself said he is looking at seriously at this point in his latest Scout update.

I know you want to follow his career...

Whoa, rcd is a weirdo obsessed with Howell, but that doesn't mean we should bash Richard Howell himself.

He's obviously a very talented basketball player... whether he fits our team or not, that's for TI and the rest of the coaching staff to decide.

That we're going harder for Wilson is no secret to anyone, but we shouldn't be bashing Howell just because he's not our first option.
