Is that better? And for the record, I didn't notice that post....all I saw is four pages of members of that board lending credence to this poster.

Why even post this when most of the Duke guys on the board even say this guy is full of crap?

I read 4 pages of mostly Hariston talk and it doesn't seem like Jamil is anywhere close to making a decision talk and he hasn't taken his visits talk.

I think it was you on the Spartan Scout free board who said MSU feels very good about where they are with Jamil (could have been somewhere else).

I usually really like your posts about bball Stats but this one was kinda weak.

Well, St8izgr8 made the actual statement about how MSU feels, but I'd heard similar. And I know I didn't exactly bring it strong, but beyond my desire to provide the most accurate info I can, I also enjoy stirring the pot once in awhile. In this case, I took a post from a guy who's not even premium on his own site and relayed the post hear, calling the guy an insider. I know, I know, I=. I'm just trying to provoke some discussion on this board because we're about to have our first uncommitted official visitor since 2005, from a national top-10 player no less, and there's almost no activity over here. At this point, I just hope it doesn't get lost in football hysteria this fall....

Now that said, here's the part of this post that will fall firmly in the category of basketball post you "usually really like" from me:

Jamil's not going to Wisconsin due to lack of scholarships among other things that don't need to be discussed her. Very little chance he goes to Marquette because they've already got a couple players similar to him in the 2009 class as well as a few more on their roster already, and they've got only two spots left and are in dire need of a point guard and a center. Couple the scholarship situation with the fact that Marquette insiders have all but written him off, and you can put 2 & 2 together. Now here's the X-factor: Jamil had publicly professed a desire to play close to home (read: Marquette) so that his family could watch him play. Many (inaccurately) believed this desired applied only because of his mother's illness, and while she certainly played a big part in that sentiment, he & (and his close-knit family) would still strongly prefer a college destination close to home even after his mother passed because, well, why wouldn't his family want him to be within driving distance and why wouldn't he want to be in driving distance? Many "insiders" close to other programs involved in his recruitment (read: Duke) have dismissed his desire to play close to home when in fact he still very much harbors that desire (as does his family). With that in mind, there's very little chance he ends up outside of the midwest (and for anybody who wants to know what his actual shortlist is, you'll have to signup on PrepSpotlight; everyone knows that MSU, Duke, & Marquette are involved, so I didn't find any harm in addressing those schools, but I hadn't heard the other three mentioned anywhere else, so I can't spread that kind of premium info here). So with the high probability he ends up in the midwest and the apparent low probability of him ending up at Marquette, you can see why & Co. feel very good about this recruitment. And to top it off he's tight with Delvon Roe, who of course is lobbying hard for the Green & White. And then there's his long standing relationship with Korie Lucious, which might be the clincher, as you can imagine how hard he's lobbying for MSU. Of course, Korie's family & Jamil's family would make for one SOLID carpool to MSU games all over the B10 for the next few years.

haha, thanks. Yeah, I used to have a subscription to Prepspotlight but then it started to suck so I stopped paying as of June.

Thanks for the info. I hope he chooses the G&W. Like that he has friends on the team. Half his games are still gonna be 5 hours away but its still a lot closer than Duke.

The other thing to consider in regard to distance is that many of the road games would be as close as the home games, like Minneapolis, Iowa City, Champaign, Bloomington, West Lafayette, Columbus, Ann Arbor, and especially Madison & Evanston. At Duke, you've got road games everywhere from Boston College to Miami.

FWIW, Marquette is surely not the destination. Buzz and Wilson just don't "feel" each other. Also, it will be down to a couple ACC schools and MSU. Now one ACC school is obviously Duke, the other, no idea? Anyways, the interest in those ACC schools is more from Jamil and their respective fan bases than the coaching staffs of those schools. The other ACC school i could think of is maybe UNC. Roy probably realized he got a little too many bigs (the Wears) and needs wings. Just pure conjecture. But there is another school that could make a push. Distance is not an issue, but that doesn't mean a lean towards leaving to go far for school. The most important one bit is that the commitment will be held close to the chest until March. Any speculation about favorites is going to be pure BS. LONG wait until anyone has a real clue between MSU or Duke/ACC. But those are the schools.

Did not see this mentioned

"Jamil Wilson rejected speculation that a commitment to Duke could occur in the near future.

"The only thing that is true is that growing up Duke was a dream school for me because Grant Hill was my favorite player," said Wilson. "Duke is in the running just like all the other schools."

Wilson also maintained that his decision day will remain March 9, which is the birthday of his deceased mother."

Because of several schools being involved and the announcement date of March 9th, looks like this season could be a factor in his decision. Whether or not they'll admit it....the way schools are performing and appear on the national stage definately impacts players.

Therefore, I'm sure Jamil will be watching his teams this season and that is in our favor. I think we'll have a great team, an exciting team, a talented team, and we'll be on the big stage often. That will only help.

In the end, I think seeing a couple of his friends play well for the Spartans on the big stage will convince him he has a successful family atmosphere awaiting him at MSU.

Wilson will tell coaches earlier

The date is for his public announcement, he will inform coaches where they stand long before that.

Watched his new video from King James and I'm drooling over the thought of this kid in a Spartan uniform. Honestly, his game doesn't really fit the Duke style IMO. I love his game and can see him being in the NBA 3-4 years from now.

Marquette got a commit yesterday and is out of schollies, so they appear to be out of the picture, as has been rumored for a while.

Also, not that this is 100% accurate, but it appears Duke might not be after him all that hard.

ESPN - Mailbag: Duke aims high with backcourt targets - Insider

Seems like he is MSU's to lose.

Duke fans seem to think that Jamil is Luol Deng incarnate. Now I don't know how true that is or not...but what I do know is that Luol Deng would've look fabulous in the Green and White.

How come Jamil is ranked only in the 50's by both Espn and Rivals and then Scout has him as a 5 star. Doesnt espn and rivals see what everybody else sees

PrepSpotlight also has him in the top 10 nationally. I'd trust those guys over any national guys with respect to a midwest recruit, but as far as the national guys go, Dave Telep is the best.

He's been up and down this summer. Part of the problem is the fact that the PG on his AAU team (Lacy) feels the need to take 30 shots per game.

I think Telep has him ranked better than Rivals, and I think Chair has a great eye for talent, but he also doesn't get to see the other national guys as much as Rivals, etc.. He knows the MidWest players really well, but doesn't get a chance to get a feel for the others as much.

Not to mention he hasn't done anything for the website all summer, where new players have emerged left and right. Wilson needs to develop his J and a go-to scoring move, but he has a good deal of potential and IMO is a 5* player. I've heard he measured in at 6'5'' at the Lebron camp (which isn't horrible)... I wonder what his wingspan was?

Barefoot or with-shoes? Hopefully that's barefoot (and I'm sure that it is) as it'd mean his listed height (which is the generally accepted height) would be around 6'6/6'7" and with his quicks and a legit 7 foot wingspan, his effective playing height would be at least 6'9". That's solid.

Now if he's 6'5" with shoes on, that's bad news since it would mean that he's about 6' 3 1/2" barefoot. Fortunately I highly doubt that's the case.
