Link says Jamil Wilson is considered by many a virtual lock for Michigan State.
Lou Dawkins, the coach at Saginaw High School has this new blog. He has a paragraph on Jamil Wilson where he says, "Wilson is considered by many a virtual lock for Michigan State." He also mentions his injury this summer.
Great news if that is true!

He posted scUM looking good for Zeigler a little below that. I didn't post this in the Zeigler thread because it was more of a credibility question for Dawkins on this stuff, than player update. I don't know that he's right or wrong.

Michigan State, already a perennial powerhouse, is starting to get to the point, where they get basically whoever they want.
Delvon Roe-Check, Keith Appling-Check, Derrick Nix-Check, the Spartan staff is getting it done, huge props to Izzo, Monty, DJ, and Garland.
Can you imagine a team with Kalin Lucas, Chris Allen, Durrell Summers, Delvon Roe, Korie Lucious, Draymond Green, Jamil Wilson, Derrick Nix, Keith Appling, and Garrick Sherman. Pretty scary!
|
That would be scary, if they all stayed and played together. Izzo is definitely going for the Shock-and-Awe athletically and offensively. If they play at MSU, we know they'll play defense too.

Lucas could be gone next year. Hope to see Byrd or Zeigler and a big in Payne/Guana/Horford. Zeigler looks like a UCLA lean. If you don't land either of Byrd or Zeigler, then you still have Justin Martin out there. Still want to see development of bigs for 2010 class, Payne is the only one highly rated at moment.

Note to RCMB - Jack Breslin recruiting link: No current MSU Spartans will be going pro after their sophmore years and more than likely not after their Junior years either. So sleep well and enjoy our team.

That's a bit dubious. If Kalin Lucas continues to progress, he's a real possibility to be a three-year player. It was a lot of fluff but he got enough hype during the tournament that some in the press mentioned him leaving last year. Regardless, I think Lucas playing four years at MSU is about 50/50. All the more important that Appling become an effective college PG.

Not necessarily...Dee Brown is a bad example because he did not play point in college, and when he did, he was a SG in a PG body. Klucas is more of a true point (though he can still score, and he needs to improve his desire to dish...I think that is more about desire than ability though).
Augustine from Texas, Conloy Jr., Chris Paul...all are small PG who were first rounders (or Lottery Picks)

From Scout.com
Quote:
By the start of their respective senior years, some highly sought basketball recruits have pared their list to a few schools, or already made a commitment. That’s not the case with Racine, Wisc., standout Jamil Wilson, who lists Kentucky among a large handful of schools he’s considering.
Wilson, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound senior, is rated the No. 5 small forward and No. 35 player in the Class of 2009. KentuckySportsReport.com caught up with him recently for an update on his recruitment.
“Not much really. I was supposed to be in Texas this weekend but with high school sports starting and me being a senior captain, I couldn’t leave,” he said. “I was supposed to go to Michigan State on September 20th but I have a volleyball tournament,” Wilson said. “Nothing is really set up. I have to talk to my sister about that because she is the one that is [coordinating] all of that.”
Wilson’s final seven is as follows: Texas, Michigan State, Kentucky, Purdue, Duke, Marquette and Oregon. He said he’ll take official visits to the schools that are outside of driving range, a foursome that includes UK.

So he'll take officials at:
Texas, Duke, Kentucky, and Oregon?
Kinda weird that he'd choose a volleyball game over taking an official visit at his supposed top choice school.

Reread the article, MSU is within driving distance so he may not use one of his limited official visits to visit MSU.

FYI, I have been told by multiple sources that MSU is no longer actively recruiting Jamil and is focusing on Franklin instead.

Just the opposite
Franklin is a long shot, MSU still leads for Wilson and is actively recruiting both.

I'm not really worried about Duke because I don't think Duke will offer. If duke does it's 50/50 most likely.

Also of note: 10/17 is Midnight Madness.
Where's this coming from? All I'm wondering is if any other visits are scheduled....

That is so huge! Can we get something out to the Izzone to do a Jamil chant at Midnight Madness? It can't hurt.

I even brought up his profile to see if there were any stories there and I didn't scroll all the way down.

A poster on GSN says Wilson will be in EL this weekend for an unofficial. I was skeptical at first, but then I read on the Duke boards that he's definitely not visiting Durham this weekend and they're almost certainly done with him. Unofficial today + official for Midnight Madness & tOSU in two weeks + no other visits scheduled =

Yup pretty sure jamil was there and was enjoying himself. I was in the front row of the student section and as the bball team walked by giving high fives jamil wasn't shy to give all us spartan fans fives as well.

From Scout.com (Oct 3)
Quote:
Michigan State has hosted a core group of underclassmen multiple times and Trey Zeigler leads another impressive group in East Lansing. However, the biggest name in town will be senior Jamil Wilson.
Michigan: Matt Vogrich, Russell Byrd
Michigan State: Jamil Wilson, Derrick Nix, Alex Gauna, Isaiah Sykes, Jon Horford, Keith Appling, Tommy McCune, Trey Zeigler
