pezfez- you a Wisky fan? Is it true that Wilson may have some academic issues that he needs to take care of?

And yes, Purdue will be in the hunt...they have been on him from the start.

Scout shows no MSU offer. This thread indicates that he does. What is the truth?

Hey, give this MSU person a break. They sound decent. Not like those posters over on their website. What a strange group they are.

currently yes, until i find a new bandwagon to jump on

academic issues after the strain of losing a mother to go along with the fact of not being an excellent student in the first place. nothing to be worried about, a good kid who will take care of business and has few years to do so. just not the "student-athlete" and "persona" that the badgers are now starting to heavily pursue. he has said he really wants to play with fellow aau recruit johnnie lacy (4 stars), but lacy is a severe academic risk, and the only schools recruiting both lacy and wilson are marquette, tennessee, and purdue, with marquette the only school recruiting (still will be recruiting after crean) lacy, wilson, and anderson (2010 5 star recruit) who all play for the playground warriors.

nothing definitive, but you guys are overestimating what lucious and izzo mean to wilson. it's just common sense, a recruit in the state of wisconsin being heavily recruited by wisconsin and an outside school, it's wisconsin all day. luckily for other schools, wilson is just not that big of a priority anymore. he's said good things about every single school fan-service that has contacted him (uw, texas, marquette, msu, even michigan). i know it sounds crazy around here, but he really really likes the badger staff, including the head coach. but as stated before, at this point, there is more interest from wilson in uw than interest from uw in wilson.

a case could be made for any school recruiting him. in the end he is neither make or brake for either uw or msu and that's a credit to the head coaches at the two programs.

marquette (mainly assistant buzz williams or whomever takes over) is still the perceived favorite, and iu won't be jumping head into the fray ahead of the schools already recruiting him. crean is history to wisconsin prep recruits. he had a legit chance at wilson, anderson, lacy, davis (2010 top 30, probably top 25), blue (2010 likely top 100) and others in the state of wisconsin and the loaded 2009, 2010, 2011 classes. dare i say, better instate recruiting than the badgers.

From a Scout article:

Quote:
As of this moment, Wilson has offers in hand from Iowa State, Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue
From Jamil:

Quote:
Tennessee, Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan State, Baylor and Iowa State have all offered and are recruiting me

thanks for the response, pezfez. I've stated on the main board that I have family in Wisconsin so I have heard some rumblings about Wilson/academics. Nothing serious, just stuff that he needs to take care of....and some of it is not his fault (tough situation losing a mother in high school, sad).

And I agree that MSU fans are overstating his relationship with Lucious.

i'm well aware of that article. it is overplayed. that's all.

on the basketball front, wilson and other top prospects from around the midwest will be taking part in the swish and dish tourny over the weekend in mequon, wi. a lot high d1 coaches should be there.

you can go to ny2lasports.com to see the field, participants, and brackets.

Should be interesting now that Crean is at IU. Not sure if Wisconsin and Marquette were favorites because of the location or the coaches and schools. Could get interesting down the stretch

So will this mean Izzo and Crean go to war over Wilson?

crean/iu are done for with regards to wilson. people up here keep saying he's as open to anything and everyone that is currently recruiting him (marquette, uw, osu, texas, usc, purdue, msu, etc).

I think after the NCAA whacks IU with sanctions for Sampson's misbehavior the cupboard will be bare at IU for sometime...very few players wish to play for a program that may have sanctions related to Tourney participation. Moreover, the sanctions could affect how many scholies Crean actually has to offer so Crean may have no choice, but to let kids like Wilson slip through his fingers... and right into 's !!!

they did kick two kids off the team so that will free up some space. it only depends on how long the sanctions for the tourney are. if it is only for a year or two it wouldnt matter too much because wilson wont go pro after one year

Scout - Racine's Jamil Wilson - Is he in MSU's Plans? $

Lucious jokes with him a lot about committing to MSU...but he hasn't heard from MSU since September/October. Still hasn't eliminated MSU however.

Not neccessarily. Maybe the staff just threw in their hat in deference to the competition, most notably the Marquette head coach who is now the Indiana head coach. Izzo has said repeatedly that he doesn't enjoy competing against his close friends and that he generally won't (compete against them) unless he is forced to.

There seems to be another Wisconsinite on here with better info than I have. But I have been reading a lot of stuff Wilson from a lot of different people. From one end you hear that Wisconsin isn't really a player for him any longer and on the other you hear people who believe Wilson to be a silent verbal to Wisconsin who is only remaining silent to draw more interest for his teammates. I'm sure that the truth is somewhere in the middle. The March, 2009 announcement date is just another added element to this all.

I've heard Wilson say that Wisconsin is still recruiting him pretty hard. I'll take him at his word on that. But a lot of what's going on right now doesn't really add up to them getting Wilson. They seem determined to bring in another guy in '08 as either preferred walk-on or scholarship player. And with the kids they seem to still be recruiting for '09 and '10 I am really struggling to figure out how the scholarship math will ever work out to have Jamil in Madison anymore than once a year in a visiting jersey.

I believe the Crean departure will at the very least make him re-assess Marquette as a possible destination.

Wisconsin is now booked thru 2010 unless (highly unlikely) transfers or early departures. An '08 commit today.
