Based on what I've seen elsewhere, Marquette and Bucky seem 1 and 2 for Wilson.

...I know. Read the posts up above that one. There was no announcement on March 8th despite him saying that he was going to make an announcement then.

He said that he's going to wait until March 8th, 2009

Speculation is that Wisconsin is out of the running, won't wait on him

Holy crap. I totally missed that. My bad. Seems a little ridiculous to put it off past the early signing deadline all the way up until basketball signing day....but hey. What do I know?

I don't know how much weight to place on these "interest levels," but spartanmag.com has this kid's interest levels "High" for Marquette and Wisky. MSU meanwhile has a "Medium..."

That didn't stop him from recruiting Lucious...but I am not sure if Marquette was really after him. Seems to me Wisconsin rarely produces superior bball talent so if their is a recruit lieing in wait it would behoove Marquette to use its influence as an in-state power...

I've actually read the same thing Jersey said, Izzo doesn't want to step on Crean's toe's. Roundhead was consistent with what else i've heard, that he's Crean's to lose. I don't have sources or anything, just what I've seen and read on different things on the internet.

Alright, some quick math on the scholarship situations of the other teams involved:

Wisconsin will have seniors Trevohn Hughes, Jason Bohannon, & JP Gavinski, juniors Jon Leuer, Keaton Nankivil, & Tim Jarmusz, sophs (current incoming class) Jared Berggren, Ian Markolf, Jordan Taylor, & Robert Wilson, and frosh (current '09 commits) Diamond Taylor and Mike Bruesewitz. That's a total of 12 players, leaving only one scholarship. If Bo's got another solid player (like Jordan Prosser, who he's been after for a long time) wanting to pull the trigger between now and March 2009, I seriously doubt he's going to hold the scholarship for Wilson.

I'm not going to list them here (because I'm not familiar with half of them), but Marquette has three slots open, so it doesn't look like scholarships will be a problem there. If actually puts the full court press on, given Jamil's "brotherly" relationship with Korie and his statements about wanting his family to be able to see him play, I like our chances, considering that MSU is still easily within driving distance of Racine, but so are more than half of the other schools in the B10, whereas Marquette's opponents outside of DePaul and to a lesser extent, ND, are not options to drive to.

EDIT: WOTS is that Wisconsin will be adding Davenport, IA PF L.A. Pomlee to their 2008 class if he qualifies academically by the end of this school year. If that happens, they're officially out of the Jamil Wilson sweepstakes. Lots of discussion about this on their Scout board, and some are displeased that Bo didn't save a scholarship for the best player to come out of Wisconsin in a number of years.

From:
Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting - Meyer's Mailbag: Wilson sets special date

Quote:
Wilson sets date When will four-star recruit Jamil Wilson choose where he wants to go?
-- Jack from Charlotte
-----
I don't know when Wilson will make up his mind, if hasn't done that already. However, the 6-foot-7 combo forward from Racine (Wisc.) Horlick did make a statement this month about when he would publicly announce his decision. He told Kyle Heikkinen of BadgerBlitz.com of the Rivals.com network that he would make his announcement on the birthday of his mother, who passed away a year ago from cancer.

"I know I'm going to decide on March 8, 2009," Wilson told BadgerBlitz.com. "I decided on that date because it's my mother's birthday. I know my mom would be proud, and since she's not here to make the decision with me, I decided to do it on her birthday."

Wilson, the No. 33 ranked prospect in the class of 2009, has already picked up offers from Baylor, Iowa State, Marquette, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Tennessee and Wisconsin. The two in-state schools, Marquette and Wisconsin, have been recruiting him the hardest and the longest. Those two have an upper hand in his recruitment right now.

Bo has an interesting style of recruiting and part of it is if we want you and offer, that offer is not going to last. Once Bo decides a player will fit into his system and he offers he isn't going to wait around for you to take maximum visits. Once he offers and you aren't sure you want to be a Badger and play for him, he will move on to the next guy.

Bo didn't recruit 5'10" Lucious because his offense has no room for a short guard.

I suggest you pay more attention to wisconsin recruiting if you're actually going to comment on it. Bo didn't recruit Lucious extensively, anyone with half a brain in wisconsin recruiting circles knows this. You can go ahead and ask Mark Miller of wishoops (marquette fan, probably despises bo), and he'll give you the same answer. It was "if he comes here, good, if he doesn't, who cares."

Bo and Lucious realized way early on that they weren't the right fit for each other. Credit Izzo for landing Lucious over other big-time recruiting programs, but to insinuate that Izzo "beat out" Bo for Lucious is ludicrous.

That is not to say Lucious is not an extremely talented kid. He is. So is Wilson, but as GRR said, Bo will likely not wait out on someone that long. As a badger fan, i hate this, we lose out on recruits that might make a difference in the tournament, but Bo will be Bo.

I love Wilson's game, but Bo's system is such that a player can be effective as long as he possesses certain intangibles, and great skill isn't really a necessity. I'm sure he'll take another less talented player before next March, but I'm sure that player will do just fine.

Guys, if you could take all the general recruiting talk to the "2009 Recruiting thread" that would be great. None of these are updates on Wilson.
