I want Wilson in green more and more each day, you watch him and think superstar immediately. We could put terrific talent around him and he'd get plenty of time with those skills. I can't wait for the day I type in rivals and see the commitment!

I never said Roy didn't offer Roe a scholly. I said UNC fans, just like the Duke board(I realize Duke hasn't offered), claimed he was "a lock".

There are reports out there (on the Badger board) that state that Marquette coach Buzz Williams was recruiting/watching Jeronne Maymon very heavily this weekend at an AAU tourney. This COULD mean that Wilson is not as high on MU anymore. Maymon is a similar player. Though Maymon is an academic risk and I suppose just could be a fall back if Wilson goes elsewhere.
All in all, can't be bad news for MSU.

Interesting to say the least. Maybe we're going to be the "home team" in this thing, given the list of official visits he's been giving for the last couple weeks. Thanks for the update.

"Michigan State has been on and off because I know Izzo and Crean (ex-Marquette coach Tom Crean) are boys," Wilson told to Scout.com in March. "It's been kind of on and off with them."
According to Wilson, part of the reason for the Spartans' hot-then-cold pursuit strategy was his status as a crucial target for Izzo's good friend and former protégé, Tom Crean. Now that Crean is a Big Ten adversary at Indiana, the restrictor plates have apparently been removed from the race for Wilson's services.
"Actually, I've been getting a lot more attention from Michigan State ever since the Tom Crean move (to Indiana)," Wilson reported. "I think that played a big role in everything.
"(Not hearing from Michigan State for a while) is not really a big deal. Actually, it shows me what kind of person Tom Izzo is and how much respect he has for other people. In order to earn respect you have to give respect. That just shows me what kind of person he is off of the court. He actually cares for other people."
|
That is great. With Crean gone, Izzo can steal more top stars like Lucious from Wisky. Suck it Bo!

Breaking News: MSU has no shot with Jamil Wilson because he and Korie Lucious are NOT tight and MSU's style of play is too slow, per a Wisconsin fan!
To sum up the following, we play too slow but Wisconsin doesn't.
Quote:
My confidence in Wisconsin's chances at securing a commitment from Jamil rose substantially ironically following filling our final scholarship currently available until 2010. That's because around that time also, Crean departed Marquette, and along with him went some of the Golden Eagles advantages I expressed concern about. Will they still play a fast paced style under Buzz Williams? Will the prestige of Dwyane Wade be as much of a lure without his former head coach there anymore? Not to mention that Williams isn't as highly regarded nationally or in state as Crean or Ryan was.
The scuttlebutt has always been Jamil was leaning heavily towards staying in state because he's VERY close to his family. To wit, addressing an honest mistake by Litlbuck, I never said MSU was a favorite, nor would I ever have said that. I think MSU fans have false confidence that they can steal players out of Wisconsin just because the 5'10" SF Korie Lucious chose Sparty in the previous class. Well, Lucious was a unique case. He grew up a Spartan fan and even was rooting for MSU at Kohl during his official to Wisconsin (which was very rude, BTW). Wilson doesn't esteem MSU near as much as Lucious, and his is a completely different situation. He won't go to MSU. MSU doesn't even have a niche with Wilson as far as I see it, unless it's somehow falsely perceived that they don't play a halfcourt style. I mean they scored 36 against Iowa and 42 against us. I'm consistent in my disbelief in package deals. And this was the first I've heard he was close with Korie Lucious. As if he's not friendly with Evan Anderson (Wisconsin Playground Warrior) and Vander Blue from the 2010 class, who will probably pick the Badgers. Half the players on the Wisconsin team will have probably played AAU ball with or against Jamil Wilson numerous times. That was such a reach by Detroit News to work the angle that Lucious will be a big selling point for Wilson.
The Badgers scholarship allotment has been exhausted, as was alluded to earlier, however as CB40 said we'll find a schollie for Wilson or another top '09 kid if he desires to sign, somehow. Several kids in that class, including Jamil, have reported that the Badgers are still recruiting them as hard as any other school. I doubt that would be the case if they just needed an insurance policy in case a scholarship happens to open up. They know something we don't. A scholarship will open up before signing day 2009. Be it Tim Jarmusz transferring or JP Gavinski sacrificing his scholarship willingly (like Taylor Rochestie at Wazzu) because of his attachment to the program. And Jamil could be the recruit to take advantage and fill it.

About 10 months of anticipation for you then .
I usually am able to get a pretty good sense of where things stand in regards to recruiting based on what you read and hear. But this one is one of those that's tough to read. 2 of his possible official visits are Duke and Texas. Neither has offered and I'm not entirely sure if either are recruiting him all that hard.
In the story about Duke he talked about how important it was to be close to his family. I realize that East Lansing isn't exactly a far trip from Racine relative to Duke, but it's a bit longer compared to Milwaukee and Madison.
Instinct tells me right now that Marquette and Wisconsin still are the odd-on favorites. Certainly no slam dunk, especially with Wisconsin's scholarship situation. I know there are many Wisconsin fans who disagree with that and probably know more about it than I do. One guy who has always seemed well informed has been saying for months that there's little chance of Wilson heading to Madison. And his opinion didn't change based on Crean's new job. But it still sounds like they're recruiting him hard and will have a spot for him if he wants it.
The '09 kid in Wisconsin that really is intriguing me, perhaps even more than Wilson, is Jeronne Maymon. If he could get his grades in order he looks like he could turn into some kind of player.

More good stuff from the Badger on BuckeyePlanet:
Quote:
|
You steal one player out of Wisconsin and all of a sudden you own the place. Since Bo Ryan arrived in Madison, you're basically the same program as Wisconsin. If Wisconsin is out of the game, which I doubt we are, he'll go to Marquette. His whole recruitment, according to people who know him personally in some capacity, is a sham to drum up interest for his teammates. And lent credence to that report by talking in articles about how he wants his teammates to get noticed too while he's being scouted.
|
Quick summary: there IS no Jamil Wilson recruitment.

You guys certainly seem to pick some interesting posts. Just the fact that one mentions Tim Jarmusz tranferring, makes it complete nonsense. He got time as a frosh and isn't going anywhere. Nevermind the fact that certain knowledgeble posters on UW boards stated long ago that it was doubtful that Jamil would end up at UW. It thought for some time that Marquette was almost a done deal. With Crean leaving, things have opened up, it seems.
As I've said, I wanted him at UW, but our recruiting is going just fine (just picked up a verbal from one of the top WI 2010 recruits yesterday in Vander Blue), so good luck to Jamil wherever he goes, unless it's Marquette.

Just for the record, the vast majority of Wisconsin posters I've encountered on various boards are very civil and I genuinely enjoy conversing with most of them (yourself, ChitownBadger, and any other Wisky guys on this board included as I don't know of any "bad" Badger fans on here). Now in regard to this guy, I'm not picking and choosing posts to paste here, I'm actually transplanting everything this guy types because of the crap he comes up with is always good for a laugh. I've heard the Jarmusz stuff but I've also heard that he's a diehard Badger and won't transfer under any circumstances. I also had it from a very good source that he was a Marquette lock pre-Crean resignation as well. Of course, everything's different now. Congrats on Blue. You guys closing in on any other '10s? (I've read the posts on your Scout board suggesting Evan Anderson might be close....)

Will the UW staff keep recruiting '09 recruits? Yes. Is there going to be a scholly available for those recruits due to transfers? No. There is a small chance that Hughes might blow up in 08 and go pro but i highly doubt it. Is UW somehow off the list of possible destinations? No.
FTR, Crean at IU is a lot different than Crean at MU. I don't think he goes to IU if he indeed stays in the midwest.
Bruco, Buzz (and the new MU assistants) were also following Wilson over the weekend. I wouldn't read too much into following a different recruit. Following Maymon has more to do with Maymon's talent than not recruiting Wilson anymore. Marquette is just as strong (if not more than anyone in the race right now).
I wouldn't worry too much about Duke. I don't think they'll offer him. If he does end up at Duke, he's transfer material 2 years max.
STAT, Blue reminds me of Flowers with more offensive potential. Anderson is announcing this spring/summer and he'll be a badger (tall, white, not from an urban area, etc). Though i have my questions regarding how his game fits into the swing offense.

So this unknown one star recruit is potentially one of the better players that Bo Ryan has ever recruited? Because that's what Michael Flowers would be if he had a legit offensive game.

Vander Blue is not going to be a one-star recruit. I don't know where he'll end up. But let's be fair, he was just a sophomore this year. Probably hasn't even been evaluated by the services yet. He's also living in the shadows of Jeronne Maymon this year who is turning into a beast. I've said a time or two recently that all things being equal I'd probably want Maymon over Wilson. It feels like he's on the cusp of explosion in his game, and thusly his rating, but he'll be back in Madison much of the summer working on getting his grades in line.
A lot of stuff being thrown around in regards to Wilson. I'll be shocked if he goes to Duke, I'll be even more shocked if he goes to Texas. I don't think the increased number of stories on him is indicative of anything other than the fact that MSU has stepped up their efforts so there's more 'news' to be had. Still a giant mystery with all of the conflicting reports you hear.

SpartanMag - Jamil Wilson sees green and white everywhere in Akron $
SpartanJohn friendly:
"AKRON - Tom Izzo and his assistant coaches were watching Racine (Wisc.) Horlick forward Jamil Wilson at every turn during the King James Shooting Stars Classic last weekend. Michigan State is gaining ground on the No. 33 player in the Class fo 2009."

Fair enough. I am aware that it's pretty easy for high school sophomores to slip through the cracks of the various ranking services. It'll be interesting to see how he ends up in the rankings over the next year or so.

Not that it means much, but I heard an interview with a hoops beat writer in Madison who says that he expects Blue to become the best player out of the Madison area in a number of years. Madison has had some pretty good players in recent years. Michael Flowers, Wes Matthews, Jr., Keaton Nankivil, and Reece Gaines if you want to go back that far, to name a few.
He sounds like a great prospect from what little I know. I'd expect him to end up about a 4-star.
