Some Wisconsin fans are as susceptible to this line of nonsense about their coach/talent as anyone and it's unfortunate that we/they are unable to appreciate just how many talented, quality kids Bo Ryan has been recruiting. Though in defense of some of them, Brian Butch never looks the part of a great talent/athlete. Another aspect of it is that Bo Ryan has had about 3 NBA players since he's been coach. I'm not sure if he recruited any of them. Kirk Penney is one of them and he only had a cup of coffee. So far Alando Tucker has had about a cup of coffee as well. Devin Harris is doing pretty well. But if you compare Wisconsin to other programs around the country who have had similar success since Bo took over you'd probably find that they have had less NBA-level talent than most. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but there aren't many teams that have won as much as the Badgers have lately to begin with.
Bo Ryan is obviously a tremendous coach. He has tremendous talent to work with. He just hasn't been blessed with the One-and-done types, and part of that might be by design. Part of that might be the perception recruits have of Bo and Wisconsin. I think the talent-level of Wisconsin has been steadily increasing over the past few years and that they are getting more athletic moving into next year.
Whether this pushes them further than they've been...stay tuned. But anyone who watches the Badgers or follows them should know full well that they've got a really talented team and that Bo Ryan isn't sprinkling any magic dust on a manure pit and turning it into a souffle.

Oh i know hes a good coach. I was making a joke about the article someone posted the other day that was talking about how Bo Ryan was one of the best coaches in the nation at doing so well with so little talent (even though they had as many 4/5 stars as we had this year)

Yes, I knew we were agreeing. Though I wasn't sure my babble came across as clearly as it had when I thought it out

What i think it will come down to is what kind of basketball does Wilson want to play and for how long. It will be obvious that he can get playing time right away so that shouldn't be an issue. As we all know Bo plays a different kind of basketball. One could say that it is more European than anything with a team concept, no superstars, stressing on fundamentals and more a finesse style of basketball which is not typical big ten ball. So then we can say it comes down to Indiana and MSU. This could be interesting because on one had with IU is that team will not be any good for awhile. But if his plans are to try to be a one-and-done player then that would be a great place to go giving the amount of shots he could take. If he wants to stay a couple years and try to win a championship then i think he comes to MSU.

I actually think for the most part that even the one's that intend to be one and done would like to compete for a championship. That's what I've seen in recent years at least, does anyone else agree?

is that a serious question? do people actually wish to NOT compete for a championship?

I'd kind of rather that people only posted player updates. There is too much stuff that doesn't need to be in this thread. This thing should only be about a page long.

i think in some cases that it is not a big priority for these kids. some of these kids coming in just want to be in the NBA and want to get there as soon as possible. Because Stern made the rule where kids have to go to college, they want as much playing time as possible so they can impress scouts with their numbers and be a lottery pick

Exactly. Take Michael Beasley and OJ Mayo. Sure these teams weren't THAT bad but would Kansas State or USC be schools you pick to try to win a national championship?

No. I encourage people to post stories as well. I'd go crazy if I was the person responsible for updating every single kid on here. I realize that people see the articles and feel that they have to comment on them or have questions...that is what the General Recruiting thread is for. These keep getting bumped up with no new information about the players' status and making them not as valuable as a resource. And yes...I realize that I'm doing it here too. I mean, I don't want to lock these threads and I'm giving lots of latitude. You guys just gotta meet me halfway.

Where else is a more appropriate thread to discuss Wilson? If I start one on the RCMB, it'll just get merged over here.

How does this forum work and other FAQs?
How is this forum organized?
Unlike other recruiting forums, our goal is to create one new "player thread" for each player that MSU is interested in. All discussion on this site about a particular player's recruitment should be done in their respective "player thread."
|
Based on this, I'd say any Wilson discussion is appropriate for this thread, not just links to new news articles.

Considering the amount of "general recruiting" discussion that keeps being posted in these, I'd think that we could keep that in the general recruiting threads. How many posts in here are about what Wisconsin's incoming recruiting class is or Korie Lucious or how many players we're going to take, etc.,?

I too was looking for updates on Wilson and I thought I'd clicked on the wrong thread given the discussion about Bo Ryan .

Speaking of Jamil Wilson, if he's interested primarily in immediate playing time, IU just got a lot more attractive, especially if the NCAA goes easy on them. Make anyone nervous?

Not one bit nervous. Jamil would have to be crazy to consider IU even tough Crean is a great guy. You just can't put your future in the hands of a program that is starting at near rock bottom with departures, etc. You have to go with a more solid, safe choice, one that will lead you to college success and the NBA. MSU is the answer there.

Make me nervous? Not really. If the kid wants playing time so badly he will go to a school that could be shut out of a tournament chance to get it, than I don't think he would fit in at MSU anyway.
Now, if he chooses IU because of Crean, or he loves the school, or he wants to rebuild the program, then that is a whole other thing. But, if kids are choosing schools based upon "playing time" only, then I don't think Izzo would be going after them.

I agree, but the potential of reviving Indiana could be appealing.

Did anyone see the video on spartantailgate of Izzo talking about how they don't really do anything until July? Why do they stop during AAU when we could really put on the pressure of getting a guy like Jamil Wilson.
I'd think if they stopped calling for 3 months they would seem uninterested.

Well apparently Duke is now actively in contact with Wilson as well. I wouldn't worry about IU and others; rather, the big boys of the ACC and Big 12 are probably more competitive for Wilson.
