What definition are we using for elite? We should expect every recruiting class to be top 20, in my opinion.

And no, I am not ripping on the recruit. I am very happy that Garrick Sherman wants to be a Spartan.

Duke targeted Eric Gordon early but finished 2nd to Illinois (obviously the first time around). They landed their backup plan Nolan Smith (A McDonald's AA) later that week.
Duke and UNC we are not, but I'm pretty sure that gets to pick and choose between some very good players every year. Example: Derrick Nix 09 center for Detroit Pershing wants an offer, probably not getting one. Another example: the infamous Dar Tucker.

Like I said, Coach needs to recruit some high-quality post players, because to be honest, the most lacking aspect of the 07-08 team is post players.

A couple of newer and older pieces on Sherman...

Garrick Sherman is the type of player that keeps coaches up at night. A 6-foot-9 post player for Kenton, Sherman is averaging 16 points and 17 rebounds.
But here is what should give coaches in the Western Buckeye League nightmares — Sherman is only a sophomore.

Butler vs. Sherman
The 6-foot-10 junior Sherman has it all. He's quick, has great hands, a nice shot and runs the floor well. Iowa is really after him, as are all the Mid-American Conference schools. With his talent, he deserves to play at the highest level.

SHERMAN ON THE MARCH
March 4, 2008

Garrick Sherman finished his junior season with impressive numbers and gained the confidence to go along with those cartoon-like stats. The 6-10, 230-pound BF/C from Kenton (OH) High posted 23-point, 16-rebound and 5-block numbers that reflected the work Sherman has put into his game.
"I think the area where I improved the most was in getting stronger and finishing better around the basket," Sherman told PrepStars.com. "I didn't get any and-ones previously, and this year I was a lot stronger and quicker with the ball. I did some weight room work, but mostly it was natural development."

Haters gonna hate.

MSU is an Elite Program. That does not mean they are going to get all 4 & 5 Stars. Herzog was a 4 Star and by the way he is still a RS Frosh.

Gray was a 5 Star. I mean don't act like Izzo is chop liver when it comes to recruiting. He landed a 5 Star Stud in '08 with Roe.

Also to the person who mentioned UNC whiffing on all their plan A's and still got 3 Mcdonalds All Americans. Two of them don't deserve it. They are Mcdonalds All Americans because of the school they choose. Whats his name Larry Drew is ranked in the 70s.

I would be shocked if Izzo WANTS this guy. Country Day always recruits top talent, and then by the time they leave, they are infamous malcontents , 'all eyes on me' types, and end decommitting, going out of state, or in the case of Nelson, disappearing all together. This has been the pattern since Battier........who was probably the greatest ambassador for the student athlete in the history of Mhsaa.
Rivals ranks Riley as the #2 center in the class of 2009.

Everyone knows that ranking is outdated though.

At this point, if Izzo reeled in either Riley or Nix...I would be slightly disappointed.

all right, this is the 2nd mention of Delco and I just have to post something that happened on Sunday. I had decided to walk out to where I stayed 4 yrs ago which was about 2 blocks north of Monument Circle then walked through War Memorial Park and started back to Conseco down Pennsylvania. As I walked past a bldg that I recall as the Post Office/Courthouse, a man said to me "oh, you're a Spartan fan". It was a little on the cold side and I was wearing a green touk w/ a white S on it. Then he says, my son used to play basketball for them. He represented himself to be Delco's dad. So, we spoke a bit. I asked how Delco was doing since I heard that he had recently been having some trouble down in Florida. He said it all worked out ok and that he was going to Florida to visit Delco sometime in the next month, he might have said 2 wks but it's a little hazy now. I didn't press him for details about how things worked out ok but I sure do wonder.

What is Izzo's loves for big red-headed kids, it almostlike a fetish or something? Ballinger, Naymick, and now this kid.

Odd that's all.

Thank you. It's completely destroyed this thread. Having been around here for a long time, I don't like the direction of a lot of these threads.

I think that there is a different group of people that comment on basketball recruits versus football recruits. The ones that are over on the Duffy are trained a little better. The fact that this thread was on the front board for a while is why there is so much garbage in here. This is a big part of why we can't talk about recruiting on the main board as much.

If he has fairly long arms and good hands as some of the articles have indicated then I'm pumped for this commitment.

again, welcome aboard Sherminator.

Nice, that's exactly the opposite of most of our bigs lately.

Excellent J, no post game.

Liking "Big Sherm" more and more the more I read.

He was a Plan A for a reason.

I think he will be a real good player for MSU. Justin Young did say he would be in the next Rivals rankings. Not that it matters IMO but I know some here are big time into rankings and stars. Sherman being a Plan A is all I need to know. is KING!

Garrick Sherman is ranked #78 in ESPN Super 60 - Class of 2009.

Evaluation

March, 2008: Sherman is a strong, skilled big man with the ability to play either the high or low post. He has good range on his shot and is a strong rebounder with excellent mobility and reactions. Reportedly, Sherman is compared by Michigan State (verbal commitment) coach Tom Izzo and his staff to current Spartan junior big man Goran Suton as a high schooler. He could become an instant starter for MSU in 2009-2010.

Who's the other UNC AA that didn't deserve it? Davis and Zeller can both ball
