I'm glad there are so many people that are excited about him coming to MSU. I welcome him as I would any recruit and wish him the very best.
However, I can say that I'm not personally excited about him as so many others are, video or not. I hope I'm wrong.

Have you seen him play? Why do you have such low expectations for him?

Who would you best compare him game to?
Biggest strength? Biggest weakness?

Too me his game is a mix between hansbourgh and roy hibbert. I know those are big names and his nowhere near the talent yet but you can see it in him. He has a motor like hansbourgh and plays very well with his back to the basket and in the low post. He blocks alot of shots which is why i compare him somewhat to hibberts he uses his lenght and size very well. Usaully when you think your by him he mangages to block the shot without contact from behind.
AS for strengths he is very good in the low post and as a shot blocker. Also runs the floor very well
As for dis. i've read alot about him knocking down 15-17 foot jumpers but i have never personally seen him do this the past two years i played vs him. I'm sure it there however he doesnt play the best of talent durning the season.

Most things I have read say that the coaches "expect" him to have this ability because he has the tools to be a "pick and pop" guy (much like Suton, Davis, Lorbek, etc.) I think you are correct that he probably does not display this during games since he is probably never guarded by anyone who can match him down low.
But, I think that is a good sign...he plays to his strengths, and likes going down low to bang. A bigger problem is guys like Riley and Kirk who can go scoreless in HS action against inferior competition.

I just have a bad vibe. Sorry. Like I said, I REALLY hope I'm wrong and that he's all that and a box of donuts.

i wouldn't worry about Garrick to much. At first i didn't think he would be able to help out a whole lot but just in the last few months he has improved a ton from where he ended the year. I know several players on his aau team that will say the same thing about him. Also he the type of kid every coach dreams about. He plays hard, as a great work ethic and is always looking to improve his game. Garrick will do just fine at state

New Rivals' Rankings
Sherman makes a big jump in the new Rivals' rankings. He is now the #54 prospect, and #8 Center in the country for '09.
Howell jumps to #59, Jamil Wilson is #60 and Ari Stewart is #61.

Talk about a nice jump for Sherman. Nix only dropped 5 spots so it's not that big of a deal.

Latest on his play
Garrick Sherman, C (6-10, 245)
2009, Kenton, Ohio/ AAU: Columbus Basketball Club
Sherman fits into the mold Tom Izzo has developed for his high- and low-post players. Garrick has huge hands to go with his big, strong, wide frame. He is a throwback low post scorer with a variety of back-to-the-basket moves. When watching Garrick play, the obvious hits you first -- he is a huge young man, but as you watch further you start to really appreciate the work he has put into his game to get him to a point where he may have been the best prospect at the tournament. No one will mistake him for a classical dancer, but his footwork is well practiced through repetition and he gets where he needs to go much faster than advertised. His motor is relentless and he has the ability to dominate his area rebounding, but what is most impressive is his ability to get those huge hands on rebounds outside his immediate area on the floor. The best compliment he received in every game he played in the tournament was the frustration of his opponent. In the two games I watched him play, both games had his opponent get called for blatant pushing fouls that were obvious signs of frustration. With his low post, physical, "throw me the ball" game, he went to the foul line many times and again did his job with efficiency and knocked down the free throws. He is a very good passer from the high post, but the most impressive and unique trait he has are his huge, soft hands. He made tough catches in the post look easy. In fact with the game on the line in the first game of the tournament, one of his guards fired a rocket in his vicinity at the low post. The pass was meant for him but it was clearly outside the reach of most normal centers, and he moved his feet to shield the defender and simply reached out and grabbed the errant pass. It was a simple play, made to look simple by a very good post player; a lesser player would have fallen down, missed the pass and contributed to his team losing. Garrick is not a finished product and will continue to have to develop his skills, strength and speed, but he is well on his way to joining the list of successful Michigan State centers.

I'm liking Garrick more and more with each new article about him. Big, intelligent, mobile, good feet, huge hands, skilled in the post, strong rebounder and a non-stop motor. I have a feeling that in two years (which will be a year after BJ Mullens has been earning an NBA paycheck) Buckeye fans will be saying to themselves..." How in the hell did we let this Sherman kid get out of the state of Ohio."

We've got a blue collar Kevin Love in Draymond Green and a blue collar Tyler Hansbrough in Garrick Sherman. The future looks bright.

That's great news about Sherman, we need a guy that score with his back to the basket. I think Green will be good too, but he looked bad at the Summer Pro Am game I went to. I didn't see soft hands or post moves. It does look like he is enjoying the dorm food already though.

People think because he's a big-body that he's a back to the basket player... he's not.
However, he is long and skilled and has plenty of room to improve if he gets his conditioning together.

He's not a jump shooting big man either. He's definitely a player who's far more comfortable in the paint than he is outside of it. From what I've seen, he's got a nice mini-hook shot that he can use with both hands. Kid is a promising prospect.
