What type of player is Appling? And what position will he likely play in college?
With his height at 6' 3", he can play both PG and SG, but which is his game more suited for?
Who would you compare his game to? I know some people on this board have thrown out Derrick Rose, but realistically is he more of a taller Kalin Lucas or Chris Allen or Summers or someone completely different.
Thanks for your help!!

Tomaytoe...tomahtoe. Obviously they've seen something different than I. I've only seen three of Appling's games this year and he struggled with his jumper in all of them. I know that he's had some great games shooting. I've read the reports as well. But I trust my eyes more than what I read on the internet, so forgive me if I remain skeptical of Keith being a strong three point shooter at this stage in his career. Promising? Without question. Developed? Not yet. It doesn't mean that I think he's anything less than a great prospect, because he is...so please don't freak out and get all defensive.

I've seen Appling a few times this year, and each time he was stroking them with ease. The best I saw him was against PSL Champ Northwestern in a state regional final at East Detroit. Appling (and Nix) was outstanding that game. Had 30+ points in the Doughboys upset.

Per Rivals article, sounds like Appling will commit on the spot if he gets the offer, talks about working hard to get better and earn the offer.
Appling about having Izzo at his game last weekend.
Quote:
|
"It was good to see coach Izzo out there watching me play basketball," said Appling. "I am just trying to play well and earn that offer. That's where I want to go."

Maybe Izzo is waiting for Appling to show him something that he hasn't shown him yet or maybe he just wants to see a little more of the same. We all know that Izzo doesn't have a big problem taking verbals committments from high school sohomores. He's done it several times in the past. Izzo knows Keith wants it. I think it's only a matter of time. Keith just needs to stay focused and hungry.

If I knew the answer to that, my name would be Tom Izzo.

Kind of odd...a very reliable MSU source indicated that Appling has an offer (was offered a while back). Strange, the term 'offer' is confusing...even for recruits.
If Appling wants to commit, I'm pretty certain that Izzo would accept.

My thoughts exactly. Sounds like it's nothing to worry about though.

I also found it strange in the rivals article that Appling had not received an offer yet. It would be interesting to talk to Izzo and find out the reason for that. I know kids have to be heavily evaluated, you only have so many schollies so you want to be sure. Might be more to it, who knows.
Good news is that Appling seems to be a Spartan at heart already. Excited to have him.

new highlights on spartanmag.
Kid changes direction lightning quick, has great vision of the court. Can't wait to see him in G&W.

lol any question of where he wants to play? Really like this kid. Its always nice when theres a player who is working to earn a ship from his favorite school, but when they are as talented as Appling it makes it an even sweeter situation. Everyone wins

Is he more of a 6'1"/6'2" shooting guard? You'd hate to have your backup PG lack the abiltity to penetrate the defense. Is he more of a Chris Allen type guard? An off-guard who can man the point position in high school without any problems but in college with the increased defensive speed and instincts, he has a much harder time getting where he wants, when he wants. Who knows but if that's the case...you'd like more size from your SG position.
Could the prediction of his future college position be what Izzo is waiting on?

He's a SG/SF. He is not a PG. What has been said is he has better PG skills at the same age than | | |
