ESPNU 100 guard Keith Appling scored 23 of his 35 points in Pershing's 88-74 win over Detroit Southeastern and its own Michigan State recruit, junior Brandan Kearney, who finished with 10 points.

If you happened to have watched the Spartan basketball team this year you may have noticed that there has been marked offensive inconsistency from three players - Summers, Allen and Lucious - that we rely on for offense. If that continues next year it is not a stretch at all to see that Appling will get a chance and if he succeeds and can play reasonable defense all bets are off as to allotted minutes. I think however, that his play would have to be pretty spectacular to garner a starting position.

You say it's a stretch. I say it's not a stretch. You're right -same thing.

Zumaya, you did bump the Henton thread just to contradict someone who posted his thoughts five months ago. That was pretty amusing. Not that you're going out of your way or anything.
Someone remind me, was Izzo's last McDAA Shannon Brown? It's a nice thing to keep level-headed about. It's easy to act like this is some deeply meaningful vindication or go the other direction and trash it as irrelevant. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle. It's nice for KA to get recognition that many in state feel he deserves but by the time his career at MSU starts rolling it won't mean much.
As for Appling's PT - remember, Ray leaves next year. Minutes will shift a lot and your starting wings may very well be Allen and Summers. Therefore, Appling has to beat out Thornton, Byrd, and possibly Zeigler for playing time. He could easily end up the first wing off the bench (while being groomed for PG duty). I imagine major minutes with or without Lucas.

BS. There's no way he has missed that many shots in his whole life.

Detroit Pershing's Keith Appling to play for USA?
Appling is one of 21 high school players nationwide to accept an invitation to attend USA Basketball's U18 National Team training camp. He will travel to San Antonio on June 14-16 to participate in training camp. Twelve players will be selected for the national team and remain in camp June 17-25.
Also invited to camp was Birmingham Detroit Country Day's Amir Williams.
