As we've discussed before, the term offer is tricky and even recruits can get confused. It's possible that the coaching staff has told Keith they want him but haven't given him the full-court press asking him to commit. They may be waiting for him to visit with his family, not really a big deal at this point (assuming he really does want to be a Spartan in the end and it sounds like he does).

When a guy commits too early it can cause problems. This kid committed to Depaul before his 9th grade year. Now he isn't the player they thought he'd be and the school has to awkwardly back out of the arrangement which hurts future recruiting. Similar to Noopy to OSU. I'm sure they thought he'd develop more than he did.

Yes, that happens often. Kansas dropped a kid a few years ago, ended up at USC and is an average player. We have offered kids early in the past and then backed off due to very little development.

Recruiting far in advance is obviously risky but it's something that must be done

Yeah, an 8th grader did. USC did the same thing last year.

MSU is No. 1 for gritty Pershing star Appling

Quote:
"Michigan State probably is No. 1 as of now," Appling admitted. "I'm just waiting (to make a decision). I'm going to see what else comes my way. (Michigan State) said I can come whenever I'm ready."

If people don't stop this garbage, I'm going to start handing out infractions. This is ridiculous.

From SlamOnline...

Quote:
Keith Appling, 6-2 combo guard, 2010:
This was my first time seeing the touted Detroit prospect play and I wasn’t disappointed, as the slender guard continously attacked the bucket, hit jumpers from multiple distances, displayed advanced moves on the wing, played harassing D and combined his slashing game with unselfish playmaking.

now thats what i'm talking about. Harassing D, good mid/long range jump shot and not afraid to attack the basket! I know there are some great guys in this class but right now my top 2 wants are Appling and Byrd. Those two would give us a great class.

orange on Spartanmag, speculation is that its Appling. Guess he's been telling people for awhile that he was going to come to MSU.

From the quotes I've seen an Appling commitment may help move things along with Byrd as well.

I'd be happy with a class of Appling and Byrd. Both can score, Appling wants to play more point (and at 6'3 has good size for it) Byrd has awesome size for a SG, that would be an AWESOME class for MSU to pick up.

Appling a Spartan!

Not up on recruiting websites yet, just thought I'd let you guys know. Not sure when it will be anounced either. AA, feel free to merge, but I thought a seperate thread might catch everyone's eye.

Go State!

I didn't speak directly to Keith, I will say that. So it is second hand info, i don't know if that's the right term or not. Credible source.

There is a ton of info out there suggesting Appling will be a spartan, today or in the near future. Only an attention whore would pass this off as his own and start a "Appling a spartan" thread to catch people's eye.

Yeah, you are right. There is nothing better than having my online persona get praise. It doesn't matter that nobody knows who I am, it is great having the "DrTre11" name get recognition. OMG, are you serious? Yeah, I crave online attention-whoa. If that were the case buddy, I'd probably use my real name don't ya think?

Difference is, I didn't go to rivals and see some fans post and figure he committed. I actually talked to a source. I guess you'd rather find out from rivals first.

BTW, if a kid commits....you're going to see rumblings on every forum. It always leaks. I didn't post this anywhere else, thought the tailgate guys deserved the first news. Thanks for being cool about it.

BTW, if you really need verification go back to the Caper news and do some research. I pm'd the news a week before there was any little tidbit about him committing on a national recruiting board. There was nothing more than threads discussing him as a recruit. Thought I backed myself then, I guess I'll have to keep proving.
