Normally listed heights are inflated as we all know, however Keith has grown and I'm sure he continues to grow only being a junior. He was listed at 6'1" on scout, but I actually believe the new 6'3" listing on rivals. He is definately taller this summer than he looked last year.

Yes getting a great recruit early in the process is a good way to land a top class.

Telep chimes in on the Appling commit...

Scout.com: 2010's Appling Dreams Up Spartans

Quote:

On Friday, Appling admitted his infatuation with the Spartans. “Ever since they started recruiting me I wanted to go there. Its their past history and Tom Izzo. I used to watch them a lot growing up.”

Appling has distinguished himself in virtually every setting he’s partaken in this summer. His ability to score the basketball has been evident. Getting into the lane and finding the bottom of the net hasn’t been an issue at all. MSU’s pitch to him included comparing him to its current starter and a former stalwart from the national title team.
“They compare me to Kalin Lucas and Mateen Cleaves. We all can run a team and get into the lane and create for ourselves.”
Those guys are talented and a career mimicking them would be tremendous. At this stage, Appling’s more advanced as a scorer than either one of them was entering his junior year. If Appling can borrow from

I'd say he's closer to 6'1" than 6'3", but that was a few games during last season. I'm sure he'l grow bit between his sophomore year of high school and his freshman year of college.

I knew Appling was a real good shooter, but I didn't know much about his handles. His new AAU video has him displaying terrific handles and quickness. I didn't think he'd convert to a point guard all that naturally when I watched an old video where he was just spotting up, but the new video shows him doing a decent job of leading a team and the handles to be able to do it. Good to see.

I just love the fact these kids in Michigan grew up watching MSU basketball. Its part of their DNA now. As someone who as a little kid who grew up watching MSU athletics since I was born, I was certainly witness to some severe heartbreaks during the Jud years. The 79 championship is just a bit before my time. During those years I never would of thought we would achieve the recruiting success we have now.

I know, it's hard to fathom but Keith Appling was just 8 years old when MSU won their last National title under Tom Izzo.

I never considered myself old until just now. I think I want to puke. However, it is great to know recruits have been watching MSU as an elite program for most of their lives.

The recruitment of Appling and Nix could really open the door to recruiting in Detroit. Pershing will be a heavy favorite to win the State Championship this year and could get a lot of national attention as well. Moving the heart of that team to the Spartans in the next couple of years could really imprint the Spartan brand on the consciousness of young Detroit basketball.

So, the wonderful Rivals experts came out with some new numbers:

Appling has fallen from 59, to 81.

Zeigler is all the way down to 75.

Byrd is 89.

Jeremy Tyler, who was number 1, is now number 9. (I know MSU has little to do with this recruitment at this point, but I think this shows how unpredictable Rivals is).

Appling has been solid all summer. Zeigler was supposedly unstoppable in Vegas...so, how do they drop? Not that it matters in the long run, but it is just absurd.
