I was extremely optimistic in regards to Nix early and you can see that by my overly excited posts above. I based my opinion on the fact that I thought we needed muscle in this program and toughness inside for the BT.

However, after watching Nix in action, I'm going to have to agree with many other coach's opinions that I've talked to...the kid is not good. Say what you will and I wish him well and hope he improves, but he needs to drop tons of weight, add agility, and LEARN TO FINISH.

If we believe we have an Elite program, we should have Elite talent coming in. This class isn't cutting it thus far.

OK. I think since this kid is a Spartan now, please limit this to actual updates only. If necessary I will lock the thread.

He's a TOP 80 player. He is the best '09 Big in Michigan. Relax. Suton was ranked in the 130s coming to MSU. Relax.

DrTre- Do you remember Craig Smith? Former AA from Boston College...he was 6'8 300 pounds in high school. Might be a decent comparison for Nix as far as losing the necessary weight to become a better athlete (and will improve his finishing). It can be done.

There is absolutely no need to bash this young man!

He has some work to do in a lot of areas but he hasn't even started his senior season yet. I think he ends up red shirting at State but I also see some good positive things.

Obviously I like his size. Yes, he needs to lose some weight but after the last couple of years of our bigs not being able to put on weight, it's nice to see someone who actually has some weight to push others around.

I also really really like his positioning down low. He has a nose for the rebound and no one ever moves him out of the way. If he sheds enough pounds, it would go a long way toward him being able to finish down low and it would improve his jumping ability. Not to mention his athleticism and running ability.

Yes, he may be a project to some degree but I like a lot of what I've seen and the upside is very high with this young man.

GO GREEN!

I was scared watching his Rivals video too by the lack of finishing ability. But if you look at Riley (who would play the same position as Nix) and Kirk's videos, there finishing ability isn't much higher. All their baskets were off of dunks. All 3 of these players have some work to do before they can contribute at the next level. But I for one am glad that we got a big man who will actually play the role of a big man and dominate the low post. It has been far too long since we have had a true inside threat.

It will be funny to watch some of you change their tune when the new top 150 comes out and Nix is a **** in the Top 100 and Sherman is a *** in the top 130.

Anyway, It's obvious Izzo is deciding to take Production over maybe Potential. Potential can only get you so far. Both of these players produce on the court more consistently than other.

Riley is a ***** and I have no desire for to recruit him. I know it's difficult for you to agree with the notion, but rankings aren't everything...especially in regards to quote/unquote projects.

That said, I don't think anyone should rip on players who have committed to MSU and are still in high school. Making note of some obvious flaws that need work, sure...but getting pissed and endlessly critical of a kid who is going to be a future Spartan? Don't be an @$$ folks.

Not sure exactly but it will happen sometime this summer. And Nix will move up, A LOT. Any coach that thinks that guy is not good is an idiot and probably coaches a 7th grade girls B team.

I thought Nix looked pretty good in the state final game. Cant ever have too many big bodies, and he certainly has that. Welcome to East Lansing Mr. Nix.
