They were looking for a tall shooter with range.

Several leans
Donovan "Pogo" Kirk is a heavy lean. Nix seems to be a lean. Whether either gets an offer after their soso season is the question.

I'm guessing we only end up taking 3.
Depends on how well certain kids progress and how much the staff likes the '10 class.

Yeah, depends on who Izzo is liking in 10', but I think we sign3 in 09' so we can get 3 as well in 10'

I think Izzo want's four if there are four guys worthy enough to take. He won't take a fourth just to take one. 3 is the fewest I believe he will take. I hear that MSU is really liking what they have seen from Jon Horford in the '10 class. If this is the case then I see MSU only taking 3 in '09 so they are able to take 3 in '10. Basically so they can take another guy besides Appling and Horford.

That sounds about right. Izzo wants to get more skilled and more athletic. I wouldn't look for a "true" center to be taken in this class, unless its Riley.

So I'm assuming Sherman isn't a "true" center?

Is it a given that Austin Thornton won't be on scholarship in 09-10? If he is back on scholarship, we would only have (2) scholarships available assuming no early defections or transfers. How are we able to offer (4) scholarships without offering over the 13 limit like O$U?
The current depth chart for 09' would be:
C - Herzog (Jr), Sherman (Fr)
PF - Roe (So), Green (So)
SF - Morgan (Sr.)???- could be gone, Dahlmann (Sr),
SG - Allen (Jr), Summers (Jr), Thornton (R-So)
PG - Lucas (Jr), Lucious (So.)
Obviously, our biggest gaps are at SF and PF with the uncertainty of Morgan and possibly Roe. Unless you can find a top flight center, I don't think you go after a 6'10 and up guy that is an offensive project. Give me 6'7 and 6'8" athletes and I'll take my chances at the center position.

THORNTON is not on a scholarship. He was only on one this season. That's it.

He'll be off scholarship in 2008 but he'll likely be back on scholarship in 2009 as I would bet money when it's all said and done that Izzo isn't going to hand out all four rides in '09. If he can't get four quality players, he's not going to hand out four 'ships just because he has four openings. There's nothing wrong with banking a scholarship.
IMO if Izzo can get two QUALITY ready-to-wear bigs and one solid swingman in 2009, I believe that he'll think long and hard about calling it a class right there.

I'd LOVE to add Jamil Wilson to fill in that big wing spot that may have a lot of minutes available. Sounds like Wisky is low on scholarships, and I don't know what Marquette's situation is like, but being that he's waiting until March 2009 to announce, likely will have that fourth scholarship available for him, should he want it.

The thinking has been that Izzo isn't going to fight Creen for him. I wish Izzo and Creen could work out a deal where if he doesn't go to one he goes to the other. F Wisky. Wilson really is a perfect fit for this class and he's like really close with Korie and his family.
