I believe Scout has new rankings up. Wilson is #9 in the country. Dashonte is 15 I think. Noel Johnson is at 22. Ari Stewart dropped to a four star at 29. Howell is at 63 while James Still is at 83. Kirk and Sherman did not make the Top 100. I've heard that Scout is the best for basketball recruiting but shouldn't Kirk be above Still?

Riley is obviously very highly rated nationally, yet all I hear is that he was very inconsistent this past HS season & that there are questions as to whether TI even wants this kid.

I'm interested to hear from the recruiting experts if they think that this '09 class in general is weak, as compared to prior years ?

In-state, it's definitely trending towards very weak. And in general, poor
(or great) in-season, unseen performances don't registger as strongly with the gurus than do poor (or great) performances over the summer where everyone who assembles the rankings are in attendence.

I doubt Riley ever goes to MSU

Georgetown has a big lead IIRC.

So what happens with the last 2 scholarships? Does Izzo stay on the front line and take anyone of Riley, Still, Kirk, Howell, Wilson? Does he go perimeter and take The kid from Minn, Royce White I think it is. Ben Simons is still out there. Does he bank a scholarship? I'd be a lot happier about that if Dantonio landed Sims and he wanted to play both sports. Who's got the answers?

I hope so, I wouldn't mind Howell or Stewart just to keep the Georgia pipeline or start trying to establish one

If Wilson turns out to be the 3rd ingredient in a three man class, I will be very satisfied with MSU's '09 class. It's a collection of talent that will have a LOT of upside. And if that's the direction that Izzo is indeed heading, we're unfortunately going to have to wait a WHILE for the conclusion of this book to be written.

One will stay open until March for Wilson. As for the other one, they'll monitor the development of Jon Horford/other 2010 big guys while monitoring the progress of Kirk/Still/Riley and they'll make a decision to either bank the scholarship for 2010 if none of those guys impress, or put the full court press on if one of those guys blows up.

Seems like a reasonable approach. A couple factors to consider:

1) If Dahlman redshirts this year (ala David Thomas), using all four available slots for the 2009 class would leave only one open slot for 2010.

2) We now have four big men committed to the program past the 2010-11 season, but no wing players.

I'll amend this to say that despite the article, I don't think it will help Dahlman to redshirt. I think that ultimately he's in the middle of a numbers game and he's odd man out. He'll pick up a few more minutes this season, but how will it help him to sit while Allen and Summers just get better?

I agree. A mid-career redshirt wouldn't benefit the program at all. If Zeke wants to stay a Spartan (and I would love for him to do just that as he provides tremendous end of the rotation depth), then he obviously understands the talent level on the team and his role on the team...and he's fine with that.
