Still have to wonder though how the commitments of Nix and Sherman affect the offers made to other players, does Landing two big men mean that Izzo pulls some of the offers he has made off the table?
Have to think the chances are that Kalin won't be here for his senior year, so we could be looking at four for 2009 and three for 2010 (or vice versa given that the in-state class of 2010 is much better than the 2009 class).

If you are someone like me, who doesn't have inside information, who is merely a fan, navigating the information in this board can be a challenge. Some people say Riley has an offer, some people say no way. The board (as a whole) hasn't always been rock solid with accuracy so it makes one question whether we truly "know" what we say we "know." It is really difficult to decipher who has solid information and who is someone sitting at their computer trying to turn their personal suspicion into known fact through bravado and aggression when there isn't any real evidence visible.

That was my point (a reasonable one, I think) and I'm sorry if I didn't say it well.

So, if you'd be so patient, fill me (and some other people) in. How might this play out?
What happens if Donovan Kirk calls Izzo tomorrow and accepts? Does he pullback on all offers except one (Wilson?). If he doesn't, what happens if DaShonte Riley accepts too the next day? Does he then tell Riley he has to wait and see? Or does he forget Wilson and conclude his class?

It seems possible that Izzo wants one more reliable recruit locked-up for the third scholarship (Kirk, Riley, Still, etc.) and could use Wilson's fourth as a bonus. If you're fourth recruit is going to be Jamil Wilson, then using all four makes sense.

First, there's no chance that he'll "forget Wilson and conclude his class." Jamil's a special player and we might even be considered the prohibitive favorite right now. No way will he use all the scholarships elsewhere.

Now that said, we will have four scholarships available, but when you look at who they've been recruting, Kirk, Still, and Riley are all bigs and we've already got two committed. Conventional wisdom is that we won't take another big in this class so as to not alienate bigs from the class of 2010 (Horford and whoever else). On that same note, we're not really recruiting any other perimeter players beyond Wilson (the kids from Georgia haven't heard from the staff and there's no one instate that they've ever considered). When you add it all up, it looks like we'll stick with Big D & the Shermanator, and work like hell to get Wilson. Taking only three in 2009 gives us at least 3, if not 4 scholarships in 2010 (depending on who's left of Lucas/Allen/Summers) which would allow us to take three guards (McCallum/Appling/Zeigler) and a big (Horford or someone else).

If I had to guess I would say that the offers are still there (sort of), BUT a player would really, really have to show something this summer. If Riley (I really doubt this one) or Kirk impress this summer then I can see Izzo taking another big. They would have to be very impressive though. Then Iz can redshirt one of them and make them apart of the '10 class. It's basically guessing between Kirk, Riley vs someone like a year older Jon Horford. Tough call.

I don't really see that happening but I guess it could.

So the last question concerning offers is this: Isn't Izzo running a bit of a risk if Wilson pulls a Roberson? What if Izzo thinks he has Wilson locked up, maybe even a silent verbal, and suddenly Wilson changes his mind in March 2009?

It's possible Izzo's plan B (Kirk?) and maybe even plan C (Riley?) would have signed letters in November. We don't want another Rashi Johnson situation. How does he protect against that? It seems like he won't want a two man class.

No problem

MSU banks the scholarship for all the great recruits available in 2010.
