Mechanics and actually making the shot are not the same thing. Those two had great mechanics at every level they played and made shots at every level they played. We will see regarding Byrd.
I hope you aren't saying that Houston and Allen didn't have good shots or mechanics till they got to the pro's.
I'm really not sure what the laughing and roll eyes means since you didn't present any counterpoints to his simple statement about who Byrd's mechanics remind him of.

I'll admit, I read it a little fast and responded a little faster. To compare mechanics is fair.

That all said, I don't think even his mechanics are at that level just yet as he tends to shoot with his body twisted a little, even on relatively open jumpers. His set/release and upper body strength both need work as well. But we talking about comparing him to the best shooters in the world so him falling short of that standard is not only understandable, it's expected.
He's still a great shooter and a wonderful prospect who would look perfect in the G&W.

According to Kentucky Sports Report, he will be in Kentucky for midnight madness. I think he is E.L. this weekend. I would guess it's down to MSU and Kentucky. Not sure how much you can read into this, but am worried he falls in love with tradition and history of a school like UK.
Would be a great get. Kid has size, can create his own shot with his handle, shoot over people, and has unlimited range. I prefer him over Zeigler, if had a choice. Can play him at SG or SF, and post him up against smaller defenders.

Well his dad is a pastor so I don't know what they will decide about Gillespie when it's all over.

I spoke with Russell yesterday and I told him that I'd really like to see him in a Spartan uniform. I pointed to the man to my right and said, "You need to be playing for this guy." He got a big smile on his face. Walton, Raymar, and Roe cracked up as the kid looked astonished to have people know who he was while on campus. I then told him that I'd been watching his videos from the summer and that I was impressed, he got a shocked look on his face again and said, "You have?" I responded with, "I know who you are, Russell Byrd....the future Spartan right?" He got a big smile, reached out and gave me a five. He was loving it and the guys all started hitting him, giving him a hard time for getting attention already.

Dantonio, Enos, and Narduzzi took care of Caper, I just gave a gentle push and gave him a little deserved praise. Definately not poster of the year, but I appreciate it! Thanks my man

I may have even shortchanged you in my previous post....we're still waiting to see if you can reel Dion Sims in.

I like our chances with his parents in attendance at Spartan Stadium and touring all the facilities dedicated to the student-athlete: Breslin Center (new locker room), on a day when the student section, marching band, and alumni were in near full force!!
In January of 2002, the Michigan State men's and women's basketball staffs moved into their new offices in the Alfred Berkowitz Basketball Complex, which was part of a Breslin Center expansion project. With the move, the Spartans now occupy one of the finest facilities in the nation.
Academics: Izzo's record for graduating players is among the best in the nation.
In 1997, Steve Smith, a former MSU basketball All-American, 14-year NBA veteran and member of the 2003 NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs, donated $2.5 million toward the construction of the Clara Bell Smith Student Athlete Academic Center. This donation, in memory of his mother, Clara Bell Smith, is the largest gift ever by a professional athlete to any college or university. The donation helped fund the construction of the $7.5 million facility, a comprehensive study center for student-athletes.

Graduation Rates of Men Basketball Players from Top programs:
Other NCAA Tournament-bound programs with low FGRs were: Tennessee (8 percent), UNLV (10 percent), Maryland (13 percent), Texas A&M (15 percent), Virginia Tech (17 percent), Gonzaga and Louisville (22 percent), Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Oral Roberts (23 percent), Memphis and North Texas and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (25 percent).
Based on the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate scores from last year, Lapchick said Florida A&M, New Mexico State, and Texas A&M could be subject to loss of basketball scholarships next year.
At the other end, the schools with the highest FGRs were Holy Cross (86 percent), Butler (82 percent), Creighton (78 percent), Davidson and Michigan State (75 percent). Penn and Air Force didn't report FGRs.

A quick tour of the new skandalaris Football Center
before the game didn't hurt us either!
Finally, a near capacity Spartan Statdium crowd with the newly expanded student section must have been grand to top it all off!

The interesting thing about the graduation rates is that Gillespie probably did not have much control of Kentucky's grad rate due to data being collected from teams before he was a part, but hmmmmm.... gee I notice that his last place of employment (Texas A&M) was even worse on the list (15%!!!!). I wonder if that data is from his tenure?

Some college recruits wait it out, others want to get it out of the way; 2010 swing man Russell Byrd plans to decide on where he’ll play his college basketball before next summer. The 6’7” 190 lbs swing man has a busy schedule ahead of him and his father, Kelly, spoke about his son’s recruitment.
“Russell’s narrowed his list to five schools. It’s between Kentucky, Michigan State, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio State. They’re all pretty even right now.”
Byrd was at Michigan State last weekend, will visit Ohio State the end of September, Michigan the 1st weekend of October, and Kentucky the next weekend for Big Blue Madness. “We’ll be there the day before(Thursday) and plan on going to Keeneland to watch some horse races. We’ll hang out Friday and attend Big Blue Madness that night. I think we’re going to their football game on Saturday too.”

I have to agree. It would defy logic for this guy to pass up major basketball powerhouses to play at UM. They did say that he has a high basketball IQ, right?
Don't know why OSU would be out of the discussion though.
Who is coach Cox??

Log jam at the wing at OSU and I don't think they have a scholarship unless a player leaves early, which doesn't fit with his timeline for deciding.

Yeah. We jumped in…once he narrowed it down to five and the five were Kentucky, Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State and IU (Indiana). Once he got it down to five, he immediately at the end of August, he went to IU for an elite camp, an all day Saturday elite camp that Coach Crean and his staff put on. He had a very good time and really enjoyed the day down there. Following that he went and visited Ohio State. Actually Ohio State was a program we had not visited. So that was a first time visit to Ohio State. We spent the day with Coach Matta and the rest of the coaching staff. Two Saturday’s ago we were in East Lansing. We went up on a Friday actually, before the Eastern Michigan game and spent the entire afternoon and all evening and most of the night with Coach Izzo, Coach Montgomery, Coach Stephens and had a great, great time. We really enjoyed the night. It was a chance just to further get to know those guys and learn more about what they had in mind for Russell. Then Saturday we went to the football game, which was a blast. We had a real good time. After Michigan State, he is going to a football game at Ohio State at the end of September, I believe it is the 27th. Then the first weekend of October, will be taking the whole family; we are going to take all the kids and Russell and we are going to go up to Ann Arbor for a Friday afternoon.”
