Sounds like a very solid player but I just don't get how a highly ranked kid out of Indiana who seems to have offers from top programs like MSU and Louisville (so far, i expect IU to get in there as well) has Iowa as his leader.

Maybe they where first but still........................

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. Seems he likes Lickliter, but it will be hard to say no to the big boys once his recruitment gets going. You never know though...look at Cousins of the 09 class who is top five, but decided to go to UAB.

Let me just say...what the hell is Beilein doing? This guy sounds like he has Beilein ball written all over him. Louisville, MSU, Iowa, ND have offered, and UMich is close?

"I like run and gun (offenses)," Byrd said. "I also like point guards that know what I can do and just kind of kick it out when they want to, and know I will knock down shots for them."

yes he lists Iowa as his favorite? yeah, iowa is definitely not at the top of the list. He lives in b10 country so he knows we run and get shots for you. We are not a slow it down team like a lot of the other country thinks...and he knows that from living in IU. The sooner Appling commits the better for this guy, so Appling can start working on him plus byrd liking a good pg. He can also see how you can get good playing time at MSU if you earn it. MSU is going to be VERY hard for this kid to pass up.

Does Byrd have younger brothers and/or sisters?

It may be a dead period for contact but Izzo was just in Ft Wayne addressing younger children. News-Sentinel.com

'10 Boyd, Izzo in Ft. Wayne

I was at the Big Brothers/Big Sisters dinner in Ft. Wayne the other night with my "Little Brother" who is a 3rd Grader in Coldwater. He spent a lot of time with the kids asking about how school was, homework, how they were treating their moms, etc. Classic Izzo ! There were quite a few MSU Alumni like me that were there. People do not always realize what a treasure we have in Izzo and what an incredible ambassador he is for MSU. He had the media and the 350+ in attendance listening to his every word. He was very supporative of all D1 coaches in Indiana and spoke at length about each, sprinkled in a lot of Bobby Knight stories and made special note of Fife and IPFW. Izzo was complemented by many for supporting Fife by agreeing to play the return visit in Ft. Wayne this fall. Most schools at our level would not do this..... Got a chance to have a side discussion with him, he's very excited about and said that Suzy and the MSU Ladies BBall will be fine.
It was a good day to be a Spartan (as is every day....)

The 2010 Blessed IJN duo of Justin Martin and Russell Byrd will be tough to stop this weekend. The two both boast good size as both are 6-foot-6. Both know how to score and both know how to keep defenses on their toes with the dribble drive.

Martin said he has heard from Wake Forest, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan State, Xavier and Tennessee. Byrd said Louisville, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Iowa, Baylor and Notre Dame have tendered scholarships while Ohio State, Tennessee and Pittsburgh are also interested.

I'm all over this one....this kid would be a PERFECT fit for our program right now. We are going to have the stellar quick guards, the physical big small forwards, and the interior toughness and athleticism.....we now just need a shooter and this kid is a great one. I'd absolutely love to have him in green and white and based on what he's said recently, we've got a great shot.

Good, because this kid is just lethal from the 3-point line. Byrd's a fearless gunslinger. He'd be a great fit in Izzo's system.

That could be Isiah Dahlman's video from a couple of years ago. Not saying at all that the kid is not legit. Just have to consider the level of competition in high school.

Um, let's see...I believe the video from Spartanmag was from one of the Georgia AAU tournaments.....To compare Byrd's shot to Dahlman's shot seems iffy at best...

Couldn't I also say it undoubtedly looks like JJ Redick's video since it was just him chucking up threes?

Wasn't really commenting so much on his technique as with his being a hotshot scorer in high school. Doesn't necessarily translate to the big time. We'll just have to wait and see how it pans out. I hope the kid is great and that he wants to be a Spartan. I just know that I had a lot of high hopes for Dahlman after hearing all of the hype on him coming out of high school (still do). Only time will tell.

Not to hijack the thread, but Dahlman was not known for his outside shooting while in high school. People keep lumping them together and it's really far from accurate. They had completely different games.
