Roger Franklin stated that Indiana was still solidly on his list despite the recent troubles for the program along with Michigan State, Arizona (offer), Utah (offer), Oklahoma State (offer), Baylor (offer) and Memphis.
"Indiana is a basketball powerhouse and right now I'm still high on them," said Franklin. "They have a great coach in Tom Crean. And I know they have lost a lot of players, but that means there is a great opportunity to play and that's why they are still on my list."

How will this affect our recruitment of Jamil Wilson? If MSU is coming on strong for Franklin, does that mean that Izzo thinks Wilson might be slipping?

An offer from Utah. Interesting, will Izzo fight for a recruit with Boylen?

1) IU's out of scholarships, so that's not happening.
2) An offer from Boylen wouldn't prevent MSU from recruiting him if they were really interested.
3) Franklin has absolutely no effect on the Jamil Wilson recruitment as our chances with Jamil seem to improve every day. Marquette just joined Wisconsin on the "home state school without a scholarship" list. ESPN Insider just reported that Duke's backing off. Who else is there? Every school he ever liked is either out of scholarships or looking elsewhere, unless you believe the smoke about a couple western & southern schools, which is very unlikely. Bottom line is that the Jamil front looks better and better every day.

Crean went nuts and took a boatload of commitments for the 2008 & 2009. My statement may not be completely accurate because I don't know the exact numbers, but last I did know, they had one scholarship available for the class of 2009 and it was reserved for Lawrence North's (Indianapolis) Stephen Van Tresse. Now, if he were to squeeze two more in, I *think* that would leave him with ZERO scholarships available for the classes of 2010 & 2011 combined.

Stats, I thought Izzo's plan was to take 3 players in 2009 and 3 in 2010. If that is the case, then the opposite of your statement is true and in fact, Franklin's recruitment has an absolute zero-sum effect on Wilson's decision.
I have a hard time understanding how we can also look at the Oak Hill kid and put a press on him as well as Wilson and Franklin.
Something doesn't add up here mathematically (then again, I was a James Madison liberal arts major just so I didn't have to take a math class).

I don't know that I've seen other than from a few that just, kind of agreed with me on here, but I thought the plan was to take the first 3 we get in '09 and a 4th if it's Wilson, or if there's another top tier player out there I'm not aware of. Then use the remaining 2 or 3 in '10. If Wilson were one of those top 3 then I'm not sure. You could speculate that he'd definitely save one for '10 and take 3, but if he falls in love with one of these other guys he could take 4. That's not anything I've read, just my speculation from what bits and pieces I've put together, but the few that have commented seem to be in agreement. If it's not right I'd love to hear from others what is more likely. TIA.

Franklin at Vegas
Jerry Meyer's update from Vegas says this about Franklin:
"Roger Franklin had a big game for Team Texas in a win over Team Jones. The undersized, but high energy productive player scored 33 points in a variety of ways.
After the game Franklin revealed a top six of Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Arizona and Indiana."
I wonder if that is in any order, or if MSU leads slightly? Evidently, Izzo and company are keeping in close contact.

Two games later, the play of Team Texas forward Roger Franklin inspired his teammates to rise above Team Melo in a competitive match-up. Franklin is one of the best vocal leaders in the country, if not the best.
His play, whether it is scoring with pure grit and hustle inside or stepping out to the three-point line, was huge down the stretch in the second half. He scored three straight baskets and opened the game up to a lead that was just too big for Team Melo to overcome.

Read an article via FoxSports by Jeff Goodman, he said Franklin was in his Top10 for all players at the Vegas tournament.
Here is what he said:
6. Roger Franklin, 6-6, SF, Duncanville (Texas)
He's fun to watch because of his intensity and leadership. Franklin's tough, strong and has really improved his perimeter shot over the past few years. That's why many of the top programs in the country are now chasing him hard. Recruiting Buzz: Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Arizona, Indiana, Michigan State, Michigan.

This guy's lighting it up. Hope we offer soon because I think we'd be right up there on his list if we do.

From DetNews.com
Quote:
Watch Duncanville, Texas, forward Roger Franklin on the basketball floor for any period of time and two words immediately come to mind - hard worker. The 6-foot-5, 195-pounder is the consummate effort player with a motor that just doesn't stop. Every loose ball is dove for, every charge is taken, and every physical message is sent. In short, he appreciates the intangible aspects of the game, while being very skilled to boot.
"The first thing that you will notice is that I am a team player," said Franklin, a class of 2009 recruit. "I am an emotional guy that will do whatever it takes to win. I bring intensity and will give you 150 percent every night. Plus I made the transition from a post to a guard, so you know I am guaranteed to work on my game. I can shoot the lights out from the mid-range. Fifteen feet and in is cash money! You might as well go ahead and get back on defense."
Scout.com basketball analyst Evan Daniels has observed the four-star prospect very closely over the past few summers, and echoes the youngster's personal sentiments.
"The first thing that sticks out about Roger Franklin is his consistency," Daniels said. "Night in and night out you know he is going to hit the glass, knock down mid-range jumpers, and play defense. He's the ultimate glue guy. He's expanded his game to the point where he can play on the wing full-time. He brings a lot of attributes to the table, but his biggest goal every time out is to get the victory. Every college program needs a tough, hard-nosed guy like him that will do whatever it takes to win."
Currently ranked the eighth-best small forward in the country and the No. 49 prospect overall, Franklin's winning track record speaks for itself.
"If you go back to seventh grade, I think his record is 130-something wins and only eight losses," said his uncle, Andre Johnson, who is guiding his recruitment. "He went undefeated two years in middle school. The kid is just a winner."
Franklin's winning ways with "Team Texas" on the AAU circuit this summer caught the attention of a number of high major programs. More than 15 such schools had offered scholarships by July, but he recently narrowed his list of contenders to five: Indiana, Arizona, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Michigan State. The Spartans in particular have been extremely aggressive of late, and Franklin has definitely taken notice.
"I have been talking to (Michigan State assistant) Mark Montgomery a lot," said Johnson. "I have also talked to Coach Izzo a couple of times and Roger has talked to them too. Michigan State has pretty much come up. I am going to round it to a top three and say that (Michigan State) will be in that top three."
Added Franklin, "They came on kind of late, but they're a basketball powerhouse. I know who Coach Izzo is. He is a very intense coach that wants what is best for his players. He has a great coaching staff and one thing that Coach Izzo does is he develops players. He helps players get to that next level. He has great connections. I just know that Coach Izzo is going to be one of the those coaches that if you play for him, you are guaranteed to not only leave as a better player, but also as a better man."
Aiding the Green and White cause are Franklin's deep ties to the Great Lakes State. His father's side of his family hails from Inkster, and a great deal of them still reside in southeastern Michigan. The close proximity of family is certainly a positive factor for the Spartans, but it is not an advantage that they alone possess.
"It is kind of like a neutral deal because we have family in Michigan, but we're in Texas," Johnson explained. "We're only three hours from Oklahoma. He's got family here and family there. Wherever he goes, everything is all good."
For his part, Franklin is planning to give every school a long, hard look before making a final decision in October.
"I am going to try to take all five of my officials," he said. "Indiana just got Tom Crean, a great coach from Marquette. He is a guy that is going to push his kids. Arizona is also a good school. They have been there (in his recruitment) from the get go. I have been to their elite camp and I have a great relationship with all the coaches. Oklahoma is very close to home and that is just a little bit of an edge for them. And Oklahoma State is rebuilding, but I know they are a producer of great players and I know that players get treated very well there. They have been on me since the beginning of this year. Even when they switched coaching staffs, I still had my offer."
When all is said and done, Franklin's weeding out process will hinge on three very specific factors.
"It's going to come down to the coach, the graduation rate, and the living arrangement," Johnson reported. "Roger isn't one of these guys getting into the hype of, 'I am one and done.' He is a guy that wants to get a college degree because he knows that in a blink of an eye, his career could be over."
Depending on what happens on his upcoming visits, his recruitment could be too.

This guy sounds awesome..... sounds like he was made for MSU.
Some of you may jump on me because of this....but I'm beginning to lean heavily towards Franklin over Wilson.
Some say Wilson is injured, but for the last couple of months - it has been all negative news.
Franklin is rising in the top 100, while Wilson is dropping

I would be thrilled with either but if it boils down to a first come first serve type situation, that plays heavily in favor of Franklin when you take into account Jamil's March of 2009 verbal date. I know Jamil will likely make his decision known to all who's recruiting him at some point before that date...but Roger's recruiting schedule just seems to be progressing at a quicker pace than Jamil's.
