I like the way you think.

If McCune can come through with the versatility to play the three spot inside/outside like Raymar, MSU could take him alongside a big, such as Price or Williams.
At the same time, if Henton cannot establish himself as a true guard, McCune and Henton might turn into an either/or.

Looking at roster balance, we'll probably want to replace the precise players we're losing - Lucas, Allen, Summers, and Herzog.

I'm sold on PLP, McCune, and Price. The biggest question mark, I think, is who Izzo targets to take that SG role. I suppose if he's comfortable with Byrd at SG, you could take McCune and Henton both as combo wing players. Anderson is intriguing but we just started talking about him. Brundidge and Kearney are getting talked about less and less for MSU.
I think the choice for the last 2010 scholarship makes a big different in who fits in better and fills a need for the 2011 class in that spot. Zeigler or Martin or someone else would tweek the roster in different directions.

Regardless, there should be a lot of options for MSU to persue. It'll just be an issue of filling the right roles, who Izzo and staff prefer, and who wants to go Green.
I'm looking forward to it.

Any informed guesses on when we could get our first 2011 commit? I know official offers can go out soon.

Im not so sure that if we dont get Zeigler (and I dont think we do), that we may just bank that 2010 scholarship and take 5 in 2011 which is shaping up to be a loaded class so far....If I had to guess at the first 2011 commit I would say PLP...thoughts?

It's certainly possible but I'm not sure I like being that loaded in one year. Makes for unbalanced classes. If we get a couple of super high recruits that might be one and done's then it could work out (I know MSU fans hate one and done's).

I agree. I don't know how much of this is a fanbase thing and has no bearing on the coaches, but it seems like people have been saying this stuff at least the past two years: "Oh, Riley, Kirk, Still, Nix...the 2009 big man roster is huge," "The 2010 guard class in-state is loaded and tremendous, so it's fine, we can bank scholarships and fill them next class."
Yet, despite its being "loaded" and there being more players than MSU can take, we're talking about banking a 2010 scholarship already.

Instead, I hope Izzo and crew find a quality player who wants to come in 2010, just as I wished we had one more player for this fall. Martin or Zeigler would be nice but who knows.
Taking four in 2011 is plenty. I don't want to have five scholarships available thinking there are all these options, then only take three or four players.

Looks like Kearney has an offer:

Southeastern's Brandan Kearney helps USA to gold medal | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press

From his dad:
“This is great for Brandan,’’ said his father, Derrick, who played at Detroit Kettering and Louisiana Tech with Karl Malone. “He was the only player on the team from the state of Michigan. He just received an offer from Michigan on the 15th and every Big Ten school except Northwestern has offered him.

Scout has a pic of him on the front page for an article about MSU extending 2 more offers out. So it looks like he for sure is one of them.

Yeah, rumored on Bell's site that it's Kearney and Gibson.

Pitino trying to reel in the top class for 2011. I read Blackshear is visiting MSU soon, anyone know about this.

Quote:
Indianapolis Pike guard Marquis Teague (No. 5), Chicago Morgan Park forward Wayne Blackshear (No. 12) and Chicago De La Salle forward Mike Shaw (No. 40) also made return trips to U of L last weekend and could make decisions anytime.

"I think they had the same feeling as I had," Price said. "If they do, then we could have the top recruiting class in the country."

how exactly do these kids parents find it a good idea to send their kids to Louisville with all the crap that Pitino has pulled lately...

Too often some AAU coach is the "father" for the players, not their own parent(s).

When Price visited MSU during last season he was there with his father...and his AAU coach is Delvon Roe's dad. I agree with what you're saying with some recruits but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case with Price.

Rick Pitino has proven himself to be a very good basketball coach and has produced NCAA champions and many NBA players. Why would a kid be worried that Pitino commited adultery a few years ago and was blackmailed and extorted, which made it a public story? That has nothing to do with basketball. These kids are interested in two things: winning titles and making it into the NBA.... And Rick Pitino provides a great opportunity to do both, whether you believe his personal actions are reprehensible or not.

Another visitor to Louisville this past weekend that a strong impression was made upon was 2011 Chicago (IL) Morgan Park star Wayne Blackshear . Blackshear says that Louisville is his leader, but also notes that he still plans to visit other schools, and that he is keeping his options open. Blackshear lists Texas, USC, UCLA, North Carolina, Illinois and Michigan State. Blackshear visited again with Mac Irvin Fire AAU teammate and friend Mike Shaw and they indicate they are solid in their plans to attend college together. So while Blackshear Names Louisville as His Leader (ChicagoHoops.com), another Chicago-area prospect from the class of 2011 also visited the Cards program last weekend. Rich South Star Macari Brooks Continues To See His Recruiting Stock Skyrocket (ChicagoHoops.com) and had a great time on the UL visit.

After the number of basketball prospects visiting this last weekend things are looking good.

2010 visits- Gauna-PF, Byrd-SG, and Zeigler-SF
2011 visits- McCune-SF, Kearney-SG, Gibson-PF, PLP-PG
2012 visits- Chris Harison- PG, J.Hawkins- Wing, K.Kaminiski- Wing, M.Costello-Forward.
2013 visits- Cha Cha Tucker-PG, Steven Haney- Wing

If we can get Ziegler for 2010 that would finish off a great class. Then the 2011 class is shaping up nice with PLP, Kearney, McCune, and Gibson as a solid and balanced class. I don't know where Amir Williams fits into this as well as D. Anderson, and C. Brundidge. 2011 is looking nice though so far though!

Don't forget about the other regional players Izzo is apparently looking at (Grady, Sampson, etc.). This is mostly gut, but I think Blackshear and Shaw are about as likely as Kearney and Gibson at this point. Kearney sounds like a UM lean and I'm not sure that MSU is 100% on Gibson.

If a big kid is looking at MSU & Louisville at the moment, sorry, but it's a no-brainer. Pitino took the top rated big guy in his class (Samardo Samuels), inserted him into the starting lineup as a freshman.....and said big guy got SHUT OUT in a season ending loss to MSU. Meanwhile, Draymond Green & Delvon Roe are playing for a national title. Keep in mind, Pitino's not exactly opposed to doing whatever it takes to get a recruit (see: Teague, Marquise).

If anyone is interested, I put this together for The Only Colors. Again, I would want to emphasize that I'm an amateur, non-insider doing this for the enjoyment of fans and not attempting to offer definitive scouting analysis.
However, I think it's good to have a list like this somewhere to gather information for fans and recruits.
